This scene alone proves to me just how dedicated the people who made A.O.R are. And even though I loved this show since episode one, I fell in love with it because of this scene.
Same. This scene alone has more passion, love and emotion than something like the MCU. Which the MCU is fine, but at the end of the day they're just wanting to make money. With Dark Crystal, it doesn't feel that way at all. It feels like the creators just want to tell a timeless story.
And after the show wins an Emmy Netflix cancelled it

1:19 Hup knew it from the start
Geez, Seledon’s “I loved you with all I had, I’m sorry it wasn’t enough” made me feel so many things
That comment was not made from a place of love. That filthy narc loved nobody but herself. A sell out to her own kin and clan.
Seledon loved her mother...but she felt her mother and her were too different to have the bond Seledon needed. That's why she was so attached to the Skeksis. But the thing is she and Mayrin were very much alike, almost too much so. The difference was Mayrin wasn't blind to the fact the Skeksis were the real power and that it was poisonous. She just didn't know how poisonous.
But really anyone who has hard relationships with their parents can relate to Seledon. There's no abuse, but clearly no harmony either.

It shows Kylan’s talent to bring him and his friends together during a tough time!! Brea losing her mother and Rian losing his father!!! He is truly unique among his fellow gelflings!!! Gurjin is my top favorite but Kylan has a special place in my heart ❤️

Rian is just going through it man. My heart just ached for him during the whole show. He literally lost just about everything in the span of a few days. And every time he dream fasts.. God. He is reliving the trauma of losing Mira and his father everytime. 😭😭😭I love this show so much, but damn it makes me hurt.

Proof Henson can make people forget they are seeing puppets/animatronics but see the characters as living breathing creatures with soul and heart and feel bad for the characters.

This scene honestly makes me see the skeksis as a much more scary race becuase they seem goofy at times but the whole point of this scene was they were singing to the 3 gelfling who died becuase of the skeksis

Me either. The problem lay in the fact that they made a series instead of a movie. Those puppets and sets are very expensive. Too expensive to make a series with.
but it is easier to understand what will happen to all fo the gelfings in the series considering what the finale wouldve been as mentioned in the movie, being that all but two of them were killed by the Garthim
This is such an epic show and production. The storytelling, casting, lighting, and of course, puppetry - everything! It is a shame this was cancelled. They already had all the props and set!
I wish HBO picks this up in the near future - only saying HBO as an example since they have the exclusive access to Sesame Street. Or Disney because of Muppets.

Anyone notice, at the moment Seladon sets fire to her mother's body the floating seed held by Brea comes to life and ascends.
Seladon didn't condemn her mother because it's as the Sanctuary Tree said "Energy cannot be destroyed. It can only be transferred, moved." All life on Thra is made of energy, including the Gelflings. That's why their essence is so powerful. All Seladon did was stop her mother from rejoining the planet. But her mother's energy had to go somewhere...so why not the seed?
I love this iconic song. I beleive that all of our hearts inf fact live on after this life. Good, bad, or ugly, we all live on. THis song is a beatiful representation of what life is all about..... love

This is such a beautiful scene. I love how each gelfling from a different clan sings a different version of the funeral rites/song. Even Hup has a different version. It shows how much attention the crew put, how much love they poured into this show.

everyone shits on Rian for developing feelings for Deet and while i totally understand hating rushed and forced romance in series, i dont think thats whats happening here, its handled really well and slow, its just the seeds being planted and people ARE allowed to move on and love others after losing a partner and i think its kinda fucked people expect some kind of time limit every person has to follow. But anyway, on that note, i love this scene specifically for Rian. hes the last one to join in singing, a symbolic representation of how his loss of Mira was the first, and hit him incredibly hard. Like this moment is him struggling to let go, watching everyone else mourn and hesitating to do the same. But after he does, we then get to see the way he looks at Deet and Deet looks back, and we see it through Hups eyes which i love, but i think bc of that we kinda forget the real deep meaning behind those looks-Rian hasnt suddenly forgotten Mira, but now that hes allowed himself to properly grieve and mourn her, the door has opened for his heart to love and trust again. Idk i think its so beautiful and i think Rian and Deet and every character in this show is handled so carefully and lovingly in the most beautifully subtle and human ways and we dont talk about it enough!!!

You know, after watching the old sequel original movie(spoiler alert), I might be even kinda glad these series ended at first season. Don't get me wrong, it still pains me, but the movie, no matter how light they tried to make it, is pretty fcking grim. At the end of the first season, I was almost shouting at the gelflings to not let the Skeksis run away, that it's gonna come to bite them in the ass. And boy was I right and in even worse way than I imagined. In the aftermath of making the Garthim, skeksis managed to wipe out the entire gelfling population and majority of podlings as well. So the whole movie we're watching two last gelflings to struggle and finally win a lonely future, where (if you don't count possible incest) they will inevitably be the last ones of their kind. I mean, damn, this franchise can be really dark sometimes.

Anyone else notice the ears on all the “prequel” gelfling species are not the same as in the OG dark Crystal? In this, they have horizontal ears like a sheep or certain breeds of goat, in the 1982 Dark Crystal, Jen and Kira had ears that stood erect like horse or pony ears... just me that sees that?... 👀

Just I always hear people trying to figure out who Jen and Kira’s parents (which frankly is annoying because no one has basics biology understanding to see) based on these prequel characters, none of them fit the correct characteristics. though Jen in the original movie looked like either a descendant of Stonewood or Spriton but Kira looks more like a Vapran descendant. Her skin, hair and ears were far too fair to be Grottan.
