When Mother Augra gives each of the heroes of Thra a title like Brave Rian and Gentle Deet, I feel Hup should have been called Valiant Hup, because he is without the bravest and most selfless out of all of them
Lol I love Seladon. She is complex. The show would be so short if she easily believed in the resistance. Besides, I keep thinking if she was a male ppl would love her character more. Bc you got an angsty boy instead of an angsty girl. I feel like that isnt seen as often.
Seladon is certainly a gelfling with a dark side and she is clearly delusional about the Skeksis true intentions but that's not necessarily a bad thing, she does pay the price for her actions (she gets brutally attacked and imprisoned by her beloved "lords" and would have been drained like any other gelfling had Mother Aughra not shown up in time) and in spite of everything she still shows she cares for her sisters when she asks for them to be spared when the Skeksis refuse her "new alliance". Characters that start out bad or misguided but manage to overcome the darkness in them and become a force of good are some of the most relatable. However, I do think she should have had a moment to earn the trust of Maudra Fara before the final episode. It would have been interesting to see how she would have evolved in future seasons but sadly we might now never get to see it (as always Netflix cancels their few interesting shows to keep creating subpar content).
One of my all time favorite scenes from the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance; when the group of Gelfling (and Hup,) play and sing that song to pay homage and pray for their fallen and lost loved ones...such an uplifting, soulful, sorrowful, and beautiful song; plus it hints a romance blossoming between Rian and Deet.
It is a beautiful track... but doubly sad for me... Not just because they are singing for their fallen friends and loved ones but also because I can also almost see it as the first little crack down the center of Hup's poor little heart. .n. He obviously really likes Deethra and he was the one who saw the looks that Deethra and Rian were sharing...

What I like to think is each clan has a their own melody to the same song for the dead, and when put together this is what it sounds like. And also, hearing this song while this scene played made me sad, but then thinking about the ultimate outcome of the story and how it plays into the movie makes me mourn for all these beloved characters that banded together despite their differences. That in the end they were eradicated by the Skesis, and to me feels like a foreshadow to that. Not that their efforts were in vain though, because in the end the gelflings won, but it makes me listen to this in a different light, both somber and hopeful. What a powerful and beautiful piece of music.

Perhaps traditionally the only time it’s heard all as one like this is when the All-Maudra dies, sung by the other Maudras. And we didn’t get to hear it because Seladon denies her mother the usual burial rites.
Honestly, the Dark Crystal freaked me out when I was little. So when I heard that there was going to be a Netflix show, I was very hesitant. I may need to watch it for this song alone.

I don't know, I kind of disagree. Clearly they loved each other but I got the impression that Rian and Mira were still kind of in that young love phase, like they had been together for a little bit but they were still growing and learning. To Rian's credit he spent multiple episodes mourning her, and the way he carried and protected her bottle of essence says it all. When everything is collapsing around you sometimes the best thing in the world is meeting someone who brings a level of peace and kindness unlike anyone else (Deet). It would have been weird if Rian and Deet immediately fell for one another but they spent the entire season building them up, it isn't until the last episode where Rian is ready to tell her how he feels. I think it was paced really well. (Also: I can't believe I'm diving this far into the emotions of a couple puppet characters, but that just goes to show how well done this was).
