    I've used Lucus for years. I've bought cars new and put close to 400,000 miles on them and they still didn't burn oil when i got rid of them. It's very good at quieting an engine too especially with cold starts. It eliminates them. I had some oil burners years ago and it would stop the excess oil burning. That's how I got started with it, looking for something that would help.

    I'm 74, about 60 years ago my girlfriend s father drove a semi truck, and had his engine oil and trans oil changed he always added 2 cans of STP oil treatment with the new 90w oil for the transmission, they finished his maintenance and he went down the road approximately 500 miles his transmission seized up he was towed to a repair shop as they drained the 90w oil from the transmission. Nothing came out !! It turned out the the oil change shop FORGOT to finish adding the 90w !! The only thing they added was the 2 cans of STP !! They forgot the 90w gear oil.
    So for 500mile in a semi truck hauling a full load of cars. All it ran on was 2 cans of STP. my friend was hooked On STP from then on !! Great. Video 😃😃😃

I used some Lucas "Transmission fix" to keep from having to tear into the transmission. That was back in 2003, the pickup is still going strong with having to work on the transmission. I swear by Lucas. Oh, I gave the pickup to my daughter in 2017.

      I had a Lincoln Mark VIII that REQUIRED synthetic transmission fluid. The trans already slipped a little and I had the fluid and filter changed. The shop used conventional trans fluid...out of ignorance I guess. I wasn't going to bitch since it already slipped and I wasn't going to invest in a rebuild since the car wasn't worth the money. I put in a pint (?) of Lucas transmission fluid additive and a month or so later, the transmission didn't slip at all! I drove the car for 5 more years. When I sold it, it still didn't have any transmission problems. Hard to believe, I know but that stuff works! I use Lucas products in all my high mileage vehicles since then...every oil change and the transmission gets Lucas whenever they get low on trans fluid. Great stuff imo.

    I've been a small engine mechanic for 20 years and I'm not really sure what this video proves other than if you run an engine without oil it's going to seize up. The fact that one engine blew up before the other could just be coincidence because you only had two test subjects. As with any science experiment there should have been a control group where there would have been an engine with no additives added. It's a cool idea and I appreciate all the hard work you put into this video.

    • @VentShop
      @VentShop 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      th-cam.com/video/m8ZKMCfAue4/w-d-xo.html kinda gives a control. Not sure if he changed the base oil in this one from what he used before. If so it would invalidate a comparison.
      I do have to agree the sample size is small especially since no two engines will be perfectly identical but if there is a large gap like say twice the time in the test I linked it does say something.

    Great video. Very good test. I worked at a municipal garage for 11 years and we kept lucas on hand. Saved quite a few engines and made noises go away. But the best one was we had a crown vic ppv 4.6 engine come in knocking was way over on service had literally half a quart of oil in it. I changed oil put a quart of lucas in it and the 5w30 oil back in. Let it run for 30 minutes knock went away and it was a rod bearing knock. And ran for another year till he got a new unit. So I'm definitely a believer in the stuff. I don't use the trans additive though. I was told by my builder that it's to slick allowing enough friction and causes sticking problems in transmission.

    • @webgrunt
      @webgrunt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @Dwain S&w It's a legitimate test. Most engine wear occurs during cold-starting, when all the oil has drained down into the pan, because it takes a little time for the oil pump to circulate the oil. If one of these additives leaves a residue on engine parts after the oil has drained and that residue provides some lubrication, then it is likely to reduce engine wear especially on vehicles that re cold-started frequently. Since one ran 12 minutes without oil and the other ran 21 minutes without oil, one of them does seem a clear winner.

      Project Farm Totally agree. And really if this is going to be the de facto test setup - two to three engines on just the manufacturer recommended oil viscosity as the control group. of course you’ll also want to control for room temperature since these are air cooled.
      Personally I’d also like to see the break in oil drained off and replaced before the actual test starts because often that has some gnarly stuff in it - and that could easily be different engine to engine.
      If you really wanna get scientific and take away a little bit of naysayer ammo - it wouldn’t be too hard to put together a couple arduinos to graph out rpm and temperature through the test cycle. Just need a hall sensor, and a thermocouple or two, and an Sd shield to log to. I’m not sure how you set engine speed but doing it this way would correct for an engine that didn’t start at the exact same time as another, and for running speed, because if they start going 20-25 minutes and one is 5-10% different rpm that’s 1-3 minutes of run time, which if you’re gonna do a bunch of these tests you might as well do it right and be ready for close calls. That whole test kit would be like $30-40 an engine tops. Dm me if you want more info or a hand putting those together.
      Testing wise - These are some that jump to my mind:
      recommended viscosity vs a heavier weight vs a lighter weight, or even a 5/30 vs straight 30
      conventional vs partial vs full synthetic, or if you wanna split hairs maybe a rotella t5 hybrid vs the valvoline and castrol high mileage.. since those are oil + their special additive packages.
      Zddp additive / the various disulphides..

      @@ProjectFarm I have a test to report. My friend cococted his own oil additive product trial on my slant 6 Dodge van in the early eighties. We drained all the oil out and ran it on his brand of STP-like emulsion. We drove for a long time and then emptied that stuff and turned the key and it still ran with zero in the crankcase for at least another couple of miles. That sold me on additives and later when I bought a clapped out, sand in the oil car for a few hundred and drove it a hundred miles home I tried Bardahl in it to get me the miles home. It was a Dodge Shadow with a typical 4 cylinder and overheated after starting almost immediately (bcuz oil pump completely wiped out) so adding additive taught me the engine temp did not climb.
      I emptied all the oil per our trial years before and ran straight Bardahl to the top of the dipstick mark- for an added 2 years before I jumped in one winter morning at zero degrees and forgot to idle her to a warm temp before driving. The engine seized in about ten minutes.
      I have run (and still do in beaters I buy) straight STP and try to beat the crap out of them to kill them and can't- or can't as long as I warm the engines before driving, that is. In winter the additives are about as viscous as Pooh Bear's favorite honey!

    Walk into any truck stop and look on the shelves, you'll see more Lucas than anything else. That alone tells you who the winner is. Long haul big rigs engines work harder than any other engines, and with 22 years in the industry I can tell with a certainty that Lucas is the number one choice for truckers. I'm at 1.4 million miles on my engine without even a hiccup, thanks Lucas, and thanks for the upload . 👍🏾

    Try molybdenum disulphide vs tungsten disulphide, both are designed to prevent friction, even with no oil.
    Liqui moly was designed by the Germans to prevent world war 2 plane engines from seizing if the oil reservoir was shot at, to allow the pilot to safely land as soon as possible.
    Would be good to see if in fact these 2 additives really work.
    I've personally seen benefits with oil samples.

      @@stewartmarshall4112 True. My suggestion was more for curiosity's sake for a different video. I use MMO in every oil change and my valves have always been nice and quite when using it.
      Slick50 was something we were paid to hock when I briefly worked at Jiffy Lube as a teenager and I always considered it snake oil used to dupe the people who didn't have much knowledge about cars and were making the mistake of trusting Jiffy Lube.

      It's a known fact that synthetic will win. You can't use synthetic in rotary engines since it doesn't break down as well and causes the engines to eventually lock up from the build up of oil.
