  • The Molotow Markers can run a bit on the pricey side. Are they worth the expense? In this review of the Molotow Markers (the 1mm, 2mm and 15mm) I discuss my experience with using them on this wall mural: • EEL & ANCHOR - Wall Ar...

    Don’t buy the same markers twice. Just get the inks and refill the markers. If the tips get dry, wash them with warm soap water.

      Thats a good point. Unfortunately, I discovered that fact after buying the packs. Ha! On the plus side, I had extras to share the love with. Thanks for checking out this review, man!

      Also, if the tip gets damaged, there are replacement nibs available.
      Edit: actually not sure if that's true. I now remember I tried to buy one and ended up buying a second marker instead. I can't remember if that was because there were no nibs or they were just out of stock.

    Here's a tip to get your markers primed faster. Shake it up before you even unwrap it. Unwrap the pen and then, prime it just until you see a little paint appear in the nib. Put the cap back on and shake it for about ten seconds. The paint should have saturated the nib and you should be ready to go.

    Thanks Steven... I loved his video! I’ve been a Calligrapher for 40 years but never used Molotow markers. Can’t wait to try them. I am doing “a Welcome Sign” for my daughter’s Baby Shower so the lettering needs to be large. I’m actually using these markers on Foam Board. I’m really not use to using such a BIG tip but after watching your video I feel more comfortable!
    Thanks and keep these videos coming👍😍

    • @stevenskadal
      @stevenskadal  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! I'm so glad you found this video helpful, Janie! A couple months ago, a lady in my office was making some large, hand-lettered signs on poster board. She was about to start using a sharpie to fill in the letters, but I showed her the 15mm Molotow marker. She fell in love with it and got the job done so much faster. Best of all, the office didn't have the strong fumes that would have come from using a sharpie.
      Shoot me a photo of your sign when you get it completed. I would love to see your work!

    • @janiepeskin3352
      @janiepeskin3352 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Skadal I definitely will. I actually finished it. There is a mistake that I made ... I actually dragged my pinky into one of the letters. So I’m going to try to use an exacto knife tomorrow and see if it helps fix it. But it came out great.
      Man, that is a HUGE marker to use.... but I LOVE THE FLOW OF ACRYLIC PAINT. It’ll just take some time getting use to it. I don’t like Sharpies because they do fade with time and they feel like any other marker. Will show you the sign after I completely finish it. I have to add some fun decorations
      Around the edges. I just need to fix that smear. My T has a cross in the middle which makes it look like an F. So instead of the word TO... it reads FO. LOL. OY.
      I’ll figure something out. Talk soon.

    Short answer: YES. Best acrylic paint markers on the market. The paint is excellent with full coverage-not watery, nibs hold up well compared to most other brands and Molotow markers ship with full tank...unlike others (cough, cough) German Montana.

      If you are planning on expanding your colour pallette of markers, buying from amazon might not be the best option. Try graffiti shops (online or storefront locations) to find better prices. I could score the whole set with extras for under 240€ by going online to look. (amazon was at about 300€). I can also reccomend their liquid chrome line if you want a spacey finish on paper.
      Have fun doing what you love.

    HI Steven,
    Great video. I currently use Uni-Posca markers on canvas and the issue is that I have to use 2 or even 3 coats to make it 100% opaque, even with the dark colors. Is that not the case for Molotow markers? I'm thinking about switching to these ones.

    • @stevenskadal
      @stevenskadal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm. I've never used Uni-Posca markers before. From my experience with the black Molotow markers, they cover EVERYTHING with one coat. I haven't tried out any other colors yet with Molotow, so I'm not sure if this is true with some of their lighter markers. If I were you, I would pick up a yellow Molotow marker or another lighter color and give that a shot before fully switching over. My guess is that you will be impressed by the results.

    Great review, new subscriber. So Molotow markers use only acrylic paint? Have a few copic markers and really want to invest in some more inventory, but really want to spend wisely. I’ve watched other reviews and tutorials being used on canvas as well. Seems like molotow markers work well on different types of canvases, from paper, plastic, glass..etc. is this accurate? Thanks for any feedback.

    • @stevenskadal
      @stevenskadal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Joaquin! Yes, as far as I know, Molotow only uses acrylic. I could be wrong about that, though. I haven't had a chance to check out their whole supply line. From my experience with the markers, they work on EVERYTHING. Based on the thickness of the paint and the flow as it leaves the marker, I'd say you won't have any trouble using it on whatever you like.

      I used the 1mm (Extra Fine) Molotow marker and made low pressure quick lines in order to get that "sketchy" effect. I found that I could really get a variety of lines out of these markers. Not sure how big of a project you're working on, but I would recommend you get yourself the 1mm and 2mm markers. I even went on a took a piece of paper just now, made a large mark on it using my Molotow One4All 15mm, gave a second for it to dry, and then dropped some water on it. The ink did not run and didn't come up at all when I dabbed it with a paper towel. As far as needing to varnish, I wouldn't worry about doing that unless you are painting on a smooth surface. Honestly, I haven't had to do anything special to keep them from drying out. I had a marker I used a few months ago and all I did was put the cap back on it. When I used it again months later, it worked perfectly. I think if you wanted to go the extra step, you could always pull the nib out and rinse it off once you're done using it and then put it back in with the cap on. So far, I haven't had one issue with the Molotow markers.

      Thanks for checking out this video, Jonathan! Yeah, I found out AFTER I made this review that there are even more to these markers than I knew. So awesome that they are so easy to refill and change out the nibs. By far, the Molotow markers are my favorite tools in my art supplies.

      @@friedrichs.8004 Hmmmm. That's weird. I have a lot of the black markers in different nib sizes and haven't had any issues with smearing. What kind of paper are you using it on? Does it do the same on even a basic piece of computer paper or something similar? Nothing glossy. If it still smears, my guess is that it might have just been a bad batch. I would contact Molotow and let them know what's up. I bet they'll replace it.

    So expensive, I'm still on the fence. The paint/ink refills are even more pricy.

    • @stevenskadal
      @stevenskadal  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean by the expense. Most of the time, I'd rather just use a can of black paint than to spend any more money. I would recommend purchasing just one either 1mm or 2mm marker. Don't worry about buying nibs or refills. The marker will last you a long time without it. And then you can decide from there if you like them enough to buy more or if you should go a different route.

      Yeah, the Molotow markers can be a bit pricey, but hopefully this review demonstrated that they are worth spending the extra money. Hope you get a chance to try them out! One thing I didn't mention in the video is that they are refillable. So you can purchase one marker and one of the Molotow refill bottles. That should last you a really long time!
