He has an extensive discography both as a soloist and as a member of his two kpop groups: SHINee and SuperM. Taemin was the first SHINee member to debut solo in 2014. Taemin's successful solo career alongside SHINee's equally successful group career eventually became the SM blueprint for what to do when branching an idol off into a solo career while maintaining a group presence. Taemin's particular success as a soloist opened the doors for many of his juniors in SM and in the kpop industry at large. In the way that GD from BIGBANG became the rubric for kpop rappers and rap soloists, similarly Taemin became the idol's idol for dance and performance focused male soloists. The Korean music critic Kim YoungDae had this to say about Taemin's solo career and presence: "He broke the stereotype image, the limit/frame for male singers in Korean pop and created a new world.” This music video's lyrics are sprinkled with lines about being tempted by the apple and being drawn into sin. At the end of this MV they're dancing in front of a picture of an actual sculpture called "The Gates of Hell" which depicts scenes from the "Inferno" section of Dante's 1320 poem "Divine Comedy". The song lyrics and MV have heavy references to religious iconography/symbolism but is primarily about the Temptation of Eve by the Devil. Taemin can be interpreted as taking on the form of Lucifer or even of Temptation itself, aka the personification of the red "forbidden fruit". Taemin embodies such wonderful darkness and sensuality. He's exactly my vibe which is why he's my full kpop Ult. His art usually has darker, creepy themes and impeccable visuals. He also often showcases duality in his MVs, lyrics, dance, or visuals. I'd say a good 90% of his MVs and performance videos have themes of duality or multiplicity and the splitting of the self/psyche. His lyrics also usually are about exploring his identity both as Taemin the Idol vs Taemin the man. You mentioned his feminine yet masculine vibe. That is spot on. Kai from EXO is a feature on it as they are best friends who grew up in the industry together and Kai also faces a lot of weird behavior and expectations on his looks. In order to counter all those expectations, Taemin now fully embraces his femininity and his masculinity in equal parts. He also styles himself in an androgynous way for a lot of his projects. In this video, he has that white blouse with the exposed shoulders yet also the tasseled jacket almost like a uniform. The red suit with the strong shoulder lines except it also has one arm cut away so he can have the delicate red opera glove. He also very deliberately uses choreography that mixes feminine and masculine movements or has very neutral vibes that adhere to neither sides of the gender binary. He almost always has female dancers as part of his projects and stages. It's pretty rare, actually, for him to have an all male dance crew during his solo work. Sometimes he'll switch up the gender parity from stage to stage as he's doing promotions. So one stage might have all male dancers, the next one will be mixed and the next one may be all female.

WANT is my favorite but he has so many great songs, korean and japanese. And he is an outstanding performer. One of the best.
