WE HAVE A HUGE UPDATE ON THE LAND ROVER ENGINE COURT SAGA

- We guys it’s a flat out week again here in Barum HQ with lots of machining and engine building, but the most important thing is getting paid right?
- ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
The pressure from taking the guy to high court paid off in the end so well done, every penny count's that is owed to you when you've laid out a lot of money on labour and engine parts..👍
What a community, glad you could put all the good advice into effect and got the situation resolved promptly thereafter. I really hope they don't try and mess you around further. If they do, make sure to tell them you have video evidence of the build to try and stop any shenanigans in their tracks.
havent watched the videos for a long time. the workshop now looks absolutely stunning
Much better news than the case with the warranty on the bad PCV valve membrane!. Glad to see you got your legal process sorted out with this and have results to show for it. Apart from getting paid, this will be good for your confidence, stress levels and the willingness of people to mess with you.
The engine is gone and the money paid but I would bet you have not heard the last of it. The warranty claims are sure to follow now.
Add the following to ALL the invoices:
*Warranty period starts on the date of invoice.*
Warranty void if engines are stored for longer than 45 days without being prepared by Barum Engines for storage. (Fill with preservative oil and seal all openings.)
Yes, the guy will be back.
Stay tough, paper trail and some money up front. Paying for the bits first good idea.
It makes you laugh that Land Rover man let it go so far before paying all his bills but money in the bank is a result, so congratulations Lee. Just got to hope Rover man is watching and does the same now!
Once you have been successful through the courts it makes it easy the next time you need to use them.
I expect you already know, Lee, but be careful of 'customers' paying by credit card, because of the 'charge back' option. Our favourite, highly experienced, TV Motor Trader was caught out by a 'customer' using this option.
What Mike Brewer? He gives car away just because they are going to a good home. Say at the beginning ah yeah I’m gonna make £3k on this car, at the end, he makes £250, but actually loses because he does account for labour.
@@Metal05 Yes, loses money on the car, but makes far more money selling the TV programme.
@@msa-tt4bg yes probably, but why tell the world the costs when it’s not business in the real world. Never tells the labour costs, but as long as it goes to a good home. I wouldn’t have a business if I did my work on that basis.
@Metal05 Pretty sure the number of hours spent is given along with the costs, so it doesn't take much to work out how much it really cost.
Not spotted one of your videos for a little while, the workshop is looking so much different; would suggest watching one of your older videos and comparing, it's such a huge change!
Thank you for your hard work and effort. Your videos are a true work of art.
That's some good news on the Land Rover engine saga. Glad to hear it's finally over.
LR Congratulations on the EVENTUAL OUTCOME , BETTER LATE THAN EVER FROM🎉🎉🎉IRELAND 🇮🇪
Great result getting that engine out and to John finding the oil control rings 👍
It is such a shame it had to go so far with that engine, before he paid up
Really glad to hear you finally got paid for the Land Rover engine. Now you know how it's done save yourself unnecessary stress by dealing with any similar issues in exactly the same manner, One invoice, one reminder with a "pay by" date and if nothing happens start the legal process. Anyone can have personal or business issues but there is really no excuse for no communication. Nobody would dream of trying this one on with their bank or insurance companies not expecting the consequences. Imagine the ultimate consequences if you let everything go, word gets around and suddenly you are the person who can't pay your bills because others haven't paid theirs. You're a small business with overheads. The work you produce usually involves many man hours per customer and any serious customer would realise that in advance and have no complaints about , at the very least, paying for any parts required for the project to be paid for before you actually start the machining. It's not unreasonable it's, unfortunately, the world we live in at present.
The Land Rover engine will only have approximately 5 months left on its warranty.
good point that, sounds like anything wrong will be there fault
Probably just as well 😂😂
Nope, the warranty will start from the day the invoice is paid. That’s how it works.
@@spurs079 Really? Would have thought it starts from date of notification of completion of the work.
I follow Christain and Vera of LR Time, in Germany, Christain specialises in the LR engine issues, one of his comments is about the lack of servicing and the mistake of following manufacturers oil change intervals i.e. theyre too infrequent, do you have view on oil change frequency?
I have a 3.0 tdv6 and change the oil every 5k without fail. Engine still running fine at over 100k miles.
landrover Bailiff engine: warranty claim in-coming.....
yep i give it a week
personally Lee and team when going threw courts should have legal t+c's wrote up.. normal Warranty terms as per standard stated on first invoice..VOID.
I dunno, sounds like he was offering to pay something to delay the process.
Start to negotiate, have the bailiff called off then go silent so the whole process has to be started again.
I'm wondering if they test the engine in any way before letting them out the shop.
At least he finally paid his invoice… One more to collect on! Good luck Lee. 👍
Brilliant news that you finally got your money well done and great video.
LR V6. Now wait for the email from the customer saying it's failed and he is taking you to court....says Mr Cynical
Why aren't you using your kindly supplied barum engine covers for the builds ?
Lee,l can’t believe with all the drama associated with the engines
Obviously they don’t have the money to start with?
It’s tough, but you hang in there, as stressful as it is
Good on you
Cheers Frank✅
You probably had a set of oil rings in the boxes you sent off🧤
Figured John popped up with "you probably just sent some back from upstairs".😉
I bet the Land rover engine owner is now going to get back saying it's installed and running it up your work is sub par and want's a refund!
I reckon that engine will be back; wouldn't be suprised if the owner deliberately broke it, and sent it back for another rebuild under warranty, at your expense.
Good news on the Landy motor. Results prove it was the right course to take. Otherwise it would still be sat there, and you would be out of pocket. It's just part of running a business. Since what you are doing is not an 'essential' service, but rather a luxury kind of item, folk should make sure they have hte cash set aside before they commit to having the work done. And if you can;t afford the thing....don't run an expensive car! Or maybe get a more reliable one.....
Just like the Small Block Chevy engines. (5.7 litre) Left bank: 1,3,5,7...Right Bank: 2,4,6,8. I love working on those old pushrod engines.
Did you wait till the payment actually cleared?
Lee remember Land Rover now only has the remainder of it's Warranty still Valid, If He wanted Full Warranty Period it should have been Paid For & Collected when ready.
I once worked for an engineering company, whose owner never paid his bills. He used to hide when Bailiffs came visiting. A generous employer, who bought special chairs for sick employees, but terrible at paying the bills, and the gas bill in winter, so everyone froze, including all the radiators. Glad you got your money, hard work to get it, but next time, check their financial history first. Next job is to fix the clutch on your big milling machine, to speed up your head surfacing. Have a good day!
Hopefully they will install the LR V6 and the crank will snap as they are inherently shite! Good news that it got sorted though and got paid finally 🙌.
love to see a video of a parts store visit
Pro-forma invoice for new customers or parts paid and ensure the labour is covered by the value of the finished engine. If you take credit card, I can't see anyone refusing to pay up front for the total anyways.
I see you've upgraded the bike in the workshop, from wee one to big one 😂
Good news Lee!
Are there engines from other manufacturers that can be used in place of JLR engines when they fail?
thought you were going to check the clutches on the milling machine lol🤣 those court cases can be very stressfull
I love a happy ending 😊
The latest series Ford Ranger and VW Amarok have the same Lion V6 fitted…. Time will tell how that pans out.
So in business always get a cash deposit at least towards the parts and a signed contract to start work
'A series head'-isn't 2 mil a lot to take off?, From what I've heard you talk about which has been in 'thousands' not Millimetres (no I don't know about engines)
Naturally the warranty started when it was due to be Collected first
Not old Barums fault it’s been sat homeless
Cords rings.....rebore whilst the engine is running. They had a reputation for being very harsh on the bores back in my day
catalogues are still king............ worth there weight in gold
ring thornton and they will send you a ring set that you sent to them hahaha
I've been told that they do nice chocolates too!
Is still any warranty left on the Land Rover engine lol! ;-)
Good result getting payment 😊
I know it's not standard practice but it really should be that people should pay for things ahead of time before anything is done. Because the way things are going now it almost seems like it's better to have a bank in the middle to go ahead andhave them finance their endeavors that way the business doesn't get penalized. I'm really sick of these types of stories and how much red tape businesses have to go through just in order to stay in business. It's absolutely insane This is why all of us have to pay higher prices and have to wait months sometimes years for simple things to get done on our vehicles or just simple projects on our homes.
At this time I wonder if it's even worthwhile anymore to professionally rebuild engines.
There are so many things that make it harder and harder to make a profit on rebuilds:
- Customers who seem determined to bluff and if necessary sue their way out of having to pay.
- Customers destroying a rebuilt engine and then blame the shop.
- And maybe even worse: the declining quality of spare parts, even manufacturer original ones.
Imagine having rebuilt an engine only to have the main or camshaft bearings fail not long after that rebuild. How do you fix this, keep the customer happy and not lose pretty much all the profit you made on rebuilding said engine?
I foresee a warrenty claim in the near future,
Good result. Court judgement and bailiff. Too late for him to haggle. Result 👍
1800 BD engine is a BDE
Glad you got the landrover engine issue sorted out but i can’t understand why the bloke gives you all that grief over the last 7-9 months & then suddenly pays up in full when threatened by the bailiffs?
Glad it’s all sorted 👍
When Roy Singh failed to pay me the 100 for estimating his mot work , not believing me and then me taking it for an mot only for it to fail , and then the 2 months storage on his Montego estate it took the threat of the car being trailered to the scrap yard tomorrow for him to pay up . He said , you have no v5 you no scrap car . I said , where it's going you don't need any of that . 😂😂🎉
I don’t understand why you can’t send the guy a letter that if he doesn’t sort out that motor it will be sold
In the UK, you cannot legally sell an engine that isn't 'formally' in your name - hence the legal avenue.
nice that you got the money for the land rover after more than 6 months i gather the warranty has gone kaput and if it has good as its his fault
2 mill off an A series head?
Grinding is a finishing technique, you should take the meat off using other methods unless the setup makes it not worth the time.
Get rid of the bike over the fire door or your get another visit.....,you know what some of the trolls are like 😅😊
It isn't a fire door it's a internal door that leads into the workshop.
👍👍
WELL DONE with the Land Rover engine -contract law is simple. Hope the bloody thing doesn't blow up -those crankshafts, though. Look at a Toyota, you'd bet your life on a Land Cruiser.
Well at least it's only a loss of your time and effort of collections process, but I presume you have spoken with garage before they re install motor re your need to involve collections ? They'll need to attach a lien on car's registration if they expect to get paid, or at least not release completed vehicle until fully paid by customer, if that term can still be applied ?
good news!
I hope.you are not going to cry in this video.
You know hes going to say the engine doesn't run right, its knocking, blows smoke etc. These people just want knee capping.
Next, the Land Rover customer will come back claiming faulty workmanship.
Be prepared for a fall out with that land-rover engine he could come at you saying theirs a problem and he wants a refund
Excellent that the V-6 got " sorted " . That client was just havin' a larf the whole time . An " Arthur Daly " character by the sounds of it .
Always had the money , obviously , so when you decided to no longer correspond directly an obvious taker of the piss , and said
" Nah - Fuck it - let the bailiffs deal with this now since they're already engaged " , he shit himself and sorted it .
Watch out for a mysterious warranty claim from him in the future 🤔🙄
As for the Rover, It's going down the baliff road again...
if this was a professional engine shop they would have push on boss with levers for turning the crank instead of using a vice grip.
Will the oil control rings be a Triumph? Stay tuned for the next episode!
Pints are on him.
You can bet land rover man will do everything he can to make the engine go bang then what his money back that for sure
Noticing the adverts are increasing. Please don’t go down this road.
When the likes of John and his experience has retired the piston ring scenario wouldn't have come to light, can't beat experience
That money could still disappear back out of your account.
Though at that point, it becomes a criminal matter (fraud).
It does not look good when you start your video intro showing a bicycle completley obstructing the fire exit. (00:5)
Guarantee Landrover man will find problems with his engine and try to get his money back.
Glad you got your money..... No one likes a CCJ on their name.
When they don't pay on time don't give a warranty put that in your quotes now
Hi, I would insist that a 50% deposit before starting any job. and insist by Bank transfer not card. If your charging as you should 1/2 down will cover all your parts and part of the labor.
IN GOD WE TRUST (every one else pays cash). Regards PW. Australia.
Buy yourself some crank nose sockets.
Vise Grips and rag dosent look professional
You seem to meet more than your fair share of crooks, conmen, chancers and all round dodgy characters 😱
He is over dramatic. Spoilt brat comes.to mind
Nothing but adds😳
And he still as a CCJ against his Credit Report, so great news for you, and hes ruined his credit history for at least 5 years!!! Are you out of pocket in anyway still though?
I used to be in the engine rebuild game.. Too many idiots amongst Joe & Josephine Public.. Too much dishonesty as well..
They end up living with you..
The old JLR SDV6 engine with only 4 main crankshaft bearings, same as a 3 cylinder Toyota Yaris engine. Joke design.
with all due respect Lee, youve been spoken to by the HSE about blocking your fire escape and youre doing it again with your bike. I hope you do move it, but whilst filming its there. keep it out of the way mate, for christs sake
Yeah there is a reason for health and safety . Lee.thinks it don't relate to him . Just let him do his thing . Let The HSE punish him . Simples
