  • Before starting this tutorial, please do watch Lecture # 15.
Learn to simulate and design Heat Exchanger using Rigorous Design Methodology. The heat exchanger is firstly designed using simple methodology and then converted to Rigorous Methodology. The problem statement is given below:
Stream # 1 (Water) at 25 °C and 1 bar, is pumped to the heat exchanger at 5 bar. The flow-rate of the water is 2000 kg/h. Stream # 2 (equimolar mixture of benzene and toluene) is pumped to the heat exchanger at 5 bar. The flow-rate of the mixture is 1000 kg/h. The pressure drop at shell and tube side is 0.2 bar respectively. For the outlet temperature of stream # 2 as 60 °C, find the outlet temperature of stream # 1.

1.EDR follows which design method Kerns method or any other methods? Can we compare this method results in manual excel sheet .please share if u have.
2.The pressure drop in this video is very much below the accepted so H/E area can be reduced signaficantly to save cost. How we can play with this?
3.Can you please elaborate equations used here for vibration analysis and rho*V2 if possible?
    Thanks.

Hello sir. I am facing with this error "edr rigorous calculation failed to find an acceptable exchanger design Attempting to revert back to simple model". What can I do?

We have water as a polar component, so can we use PENG-ROB here ?

Thank you for informative lecture Dr. Haris sir.
Disapointed I have not good english listening skill so I have trouble to understand context of lecture.
Can you give a English Substile?

Yes, most of the videos have English subtitles. But I'll look into these to ensure that all videos have subtitles

Hello sir, thanks for your tutorials, they are very interesting. May i ask an information please? When i click on size exchanger and then auto size, it give me the following error "EDR rigorous calculation failed to find an acceptable exchanger design" and it revert back to simple model. So do you know what could be the problem? and even if i set the rigorous shell and tube it doesn't prompt to set outlet stream conditions, so it will stuck as your with "temperature overspecified"..please could you help me? Thank you very much!
EDIT: I used auto sizing with tutorial too, and it gives me the error in the field flow rate (the box is in red, value is set on 0 and it doesn't allow me to write in). So it seem like auto sizing doesn't get the correct mass flow rate from the streams, so it could not evaluate a design

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. Can you provide us with an example when the rigorous design results in HYSYS says: "No solution" ! I am facing this error lately and I guess it is due to the enormous Duty that my heat exchanger has. Is this something that a chemical engineer should check prior to moving to rigorous design?! Like what is the conventional heat duty figures for shell and tube heat exchangers ? and where can I find the required information about it ?
what if I change the heat exchanger design from 1 shell to more than 1. Does it still work in rigorous mode ?
    Thanks .
