It is good to get them used to riding in the car to fun places. 2 of our Westies got paranoid about riding in the car, probably because they associated it with going to the vet. One that we have now, Snickett, gets crazy when we have the windshield wipers on. She can't stand it. Snickett and one other of our past Westies, watch TV and know what is going on. When a dog comes on, Snickett will see it from across the room and come running. She follows the dog's movements and whines when the scene changes and the dog is gone. A past Westie, Punzell learned how to turn on the TV. We had a small set on a low table with a large ON/OFF button. Westies are very smart!
My border terrier has always loved a ride in the car as soon as you get this harness he is ready for going that is one cute puppy he will soon get to love a trip in the car

Yes! When they see what’s going on everywhere, they love it. My miniature Dachshund enjoys riding in her attached basket, on the front passenger seat, with airbags off. It has a similar attachment device so that she cannot jump from the basket.
We always get our dogs used to riding in the car by taking them through the McDonalds drive thru for a plain burger pattie. It works like magic. We buy the burger and then take them to the park to eat. They associate the special treat to riding around in the car, and they learn to love it!
That harness will rub too much under his belly and arm pits. Check out a harness called Pug Life.. small would fit him.. great harness and very durable...easy to attach to doggie and our Westie loves it... no pulling either..many girlie 💓 colors too.

On a side note, my in-laws have a smaller dog and he became much more comfortable in a car when we bought a sort of a basket-like-thingy for him to be in, as it was a bit restricted but he could still see around. Not fun to fall off the seat from hard braking, and if you need to brake hard you don't want to worry what will happen in the back seat! If I can find a link to that basket-thingy I'll post it.
Something like that, the one we got was a bit more posh as it had a mesh window on the short side and extra material on the sides to make it less floppy, but maybe you can look for more and use that as a starting point :)

If I ask my wee white Wonder Woman Westie, Bella....if she wants to go for a “ride in the car”.....she beats me to her leash....and in her seat belt, gets very anxious for me to open her window where she then greets everyone with her cutest brown eyes.....!

But my Westie is 10 years old , and he so used to be in the car . Even and the long trips

I've used a similar way to get my westie used to the cycle trailer. (Instead of McDonalds it was the supermarket where he get some ham or sausages)
Our weatie and cairn love roadtrips, vying for the center console.
A booster seat so they can see out the windows is a good purchase. I've purchased 2 for my Westies and road trips are a dream

My Westie hates to go in the car. Shakes and pants. It's sad, but sometimes we just have to take him in the car.

He did get used to it! Now to test him on longer and longer rides

That's adorable!! Flynn has reached the point where he will try to jump in the car if I open the door, but he can't quite reach yet!! 😂
