It's funny listening to Americans try and say that American football is tougher.... NFL is what we call catch in the UK... You stop for a rest every twenty seconds... Even womens rugby is a lot tougher than NFL... No NFL player would last one season playing rugby... NFL is basically the trans equivalent of a real man, the real man being rugby....

They are absolutely more skilled than NFL players. NFL players are specialists, they do one thing and rarely step outside that role. Eligible receiver? You have players not allowed to play with the ball! If he is on the field and wearing same jersey as you then he should be eligible. All rugby players pass and catch and a few in each team kick. Oh, and everybody tackles. Fitness would be an issue for NFL players if they tried rugby. We learn to tackle young and you learn where your head goes when tackling around the legs. Note the legs on all rugby players..

In South Africa they teach us from a young age 6/7 how to propperly tackle. Meaning hitting as hard as possible and putting the player safely to the ground, with one goal hitting the wind out of the opposition stomach!
We tackle with force but we also wrap around the player after impact to keep them safe, thats why less injuries

You are taught to tackle correctly and to take a tackle correctly. A very thoughtful and sound reaction to what is one of the videos which like to include illegal hits. Have a look at skills and best tries (a try is a touch down and must be touched down; this is where your sport evolved from, so comparable) and maybe a video of the laws. You all would die with in ten mins lads sorry has to be said. Rugby is the most brutal and constant grind on the body of any sport. Pads are only small foam ones or scrum caps again foam. Most players just go for none. I've played 22 years and it's the greatest feeling when you walk/limp off aftern 80mins of non stop with a win body in bits you just can't stop smiling. The difference between the nfl and rugby is that u get hit in rugby and u get right back up again and keep going. That is why you will see players bleeding all over the pitch but continuing. Also it's an 80 minute game with one break at 40 mins. The stamina on these duded is insane. The highlights aren't real highlight because the whole damn game is this. Bro in the middle saying Rugby is less skilled than Football 🤣🤣 NFL players have specialised positions. although Rugby players have individual positions, however, they can be anywhere on the field & require to play both offense & defense...run, catch, kick, tackle etc for 80mins. Admittedly you guys are new to the sport, the guy in the red saying NFL is more skilled that is from someone who has no idea how to play the game. Yeah keep your mindset NFL is tough we will just keep playing a world sport not a national sport. By the way USA has a team it was given a mercy try and the guy who scored your first try played rugby in New Zealand, oh the irony the first ever try scored by the USA was by someone who trained in New Zealand. For the record New Zealand fielded weaker team with top players on the bench who came out to play near the end of the 2nd half. Heck some guy came off the bench and scored a try in 5 seconds. USA lost the game 14 to 104 against a B team from New Zealand?????
Yeah NFL is tough sorry still laughing at your comment about it being unskilled, for the record these guys learn how to tackle, to high stiff arm if they can't wrap the player, in front knee to the face.

Rugby is like MMA because one player needs a variety of skills like attacking, defending, scoring, kicking, e.t.c In Rugby, you need to be more well rounded whereas in NFL, you just need to be good at a specific skill because they have different teams for offense and defense and special roles. Why do you think the analogy is terrible?

@@beianimeyah24 Not exactly. My analogy compares NFL to boxing because in NFL, you only need to specialise in one skill. In boxing, you only specialise in punching. In nfl, you only specialise in whatever position you play. My analogy comparing rugby to MMA is because in Rugby, you need to know how to attack, defend, kick the ball, and score a try which means you must be well-rounded in a combination of skills in order to play. Boxing specialises in punching, MMA specialises in all-around skill. NFL specialises a specific position, Rugby specialises in all-around skill. Boxing and NFL are limiting. MMA and Rugby encompass a wide variety of skills. Unless you guys give me a better analogy lol

Statistically there are more injuries in rugby. There are more concussions in rugby as well. However statistically there are more catastrophic injuries in American football. Both sports are violent and have inherent danger. Both sports are for men only. I think the one thing that separates rugby from American football is that rugby requires players to play 80 minutes continuous and requires players to play both ways. Fatigue can make a coward out of many people.

I am from New Zealand and have played rugby for most of my life I'm in my late 50s now, however, I did coach a collegiate Team (men only back then) University team from SUI (Carbondale) from 1997-99 and had tryouts from the collegiate football team every season and 90% of them lasted 30-40 mins in training, sessions before losing their lunch, a couple proved otherwise and played Rugby really well in the forward positions as their size was more designed for the forwards. I agree with other comments Rugby is played at a high pace and for 2 forty min half's unlike NFL where you stop for game resets, and nearly all players have their own style of play, as with rugby, all players have ball time and all players tackle any player can score, both sports have their pros and cons so to compare is always from the spectators perspective over the years rules of rugby have changed as back in the '80-'90s there were many spinal and head injuries which cost a lot of rugby players their careers some would be wheelchair bound for life back then all players were amateurs until the mid to late 90's when pro rugby began to emerge. one piece of trivial was the GOAT of Rugby that would have to be Jonah Lomu a New Zealand /Tonga legend who was 120kgs /265Lbs for a winger. he was once scouted by the Dallas Cowboys in 96 however he chose to play rugby instead.

The injuries you have to live with in later life are a very small price to pay.
Both knees are gone, teeth are chipped, right shoulder is very vulnerable, left hand doesn't work well, right floating ribs break easy now, and my brain is noticeably slower.
But that feeling of dropping a player 50% bigger than me is the best feeling in the world. I'd give anything to be able to play for another 10 minutes. You feel like a god when you're on the pitch. 15 years wasn't enough, it's just a shame my body couldn't keep going.

Faster harder?? You do a couple hit ups on a league field and can have a break. Rugby is continuous and relentless. See more blood in woman's rugby then in men's league. League good for beginners to watch. It's another 7s version of rugby. Been simplified but as for harder that's a cap. A one off hit then a rest has nothing on being rucked thrown around wrestling while continuously running till play stops. I played both and in a respectful way rugby is harder mentally and physically than league and American football. Rugby league definitely not harder than rugby union when you really look at it. Ask any honest convert will say the same. It's different fitness and physicality requirements.
