The thing about the Beatles is that they'd create music no one had ever heard before, and do things no one had ever done before. Then everyone would copy them, until the next album or iteration where they'd up the ante and do stuff no one had ever heard before or thought before. So they were always ahead of the crowd at that moment in time.
Each new album or song by the Beatles was a major event. Eagerly awaited by fans, eagerly analysed by critics, eagerly poured over for inspiration by other bands. Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sargent Pepper's etc. Everyone poured over it. The innovation the, the new sounds, the new art, the new technique, the new ways of doing things, etc.
When Sargent Pepper's came out it was played in full by radio stations, Pink Floyd was on the way to some gig they were booked to and they stopped their car just to listen on the radio to the new sound that Sargent Pepper's brought out. Open mouthed, jaw to the floor, wow!! How do we match this? That was the thought on every aspiring band's minds.
Because they were so big they had the financial backing and the permission to experiment in ways that no one else had. They were the most popular and at the same time the most avant-garde, experimental band of the time. Tomorrow Never Knows, wtf!!! Where is this going? How do we top this? Wtf is even going on? But record buyers loved it, so keep the grove going.
Record company executives gave up on the idea that they knew what the market wanted. They just threw their hands in the air and said 'fk it, let creative people do creative stuff and see what sells'. Which gave permission for lots of other acts to be experimental and create new sounds and new ways of doing things. There would be no Pink Floyd or Rolling Stones or Fleetwood Mac or Yes, or King Crimson, without the Beatles. All of those sounds are way outside what record companies thought would be popular at the time. But due to the success of the Beatles, they let bands try new things to see what sold.

One and 1 and 1 is three means Paul died a while before and there was only three Beatles left. The last stuff Paul did was Revolver album. He had unfinished songs that the Paul replacement recognized and made them his own, even though Paul would whisper in his ear for the way the song should go. Everyone should read Thomas E. Harriet - The Memoirs Of Billy Shears

The "shhhhooo-ah" part - Lennon is saying "Shoot me".
When Lennon wrote "One and One and One is three - got to be good looking cause he's so hard to see" was him telling the other band members he was feeling ignored by them. There are 4 Beatles.

When you said, "I didn't know that the Beatles sounded like this.", I giggled out loud. They changed from one album to the next. And on each album were a dozen songs that were different from any other. That was part of their brilliance and genius. I look forwards to the many more songs from them. Some people might suggest beginning with their early years and playing the albums in succession the way we heard them then. But I think it doesn't matter. If you are like most of us then you end up listening to all of the Beatles songs thousands of times, over and over. It never gets old. Ever.

Well, i think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say all 12 song on any album prior to Rubber Soul sounds unlike any other song. There's quite a bit of filler on those early albums that sound like john and Paul were just knocking off a quick song for the next album. But even those songs, like "Every Little Thing" had interesting and unique instrumental flourishes.
But i take your point that their growth and development was extraordinary. I think from Rubber Soul onwards you can really hear Lennon and Mccartney emerge as two very distinct voices.
Harrison was always unique just cause he was writing separately. He tended to be the only one writing anti-love songs: Don't Bother Me, If I Needed Someone, You Like Me Too Much, Think For Yourself

There are likely a lot of bands that COULD do it all, but the Beatles actually stuck their necks out and DID it all. Rock and Roll, Pop, Folk, Country, Psychedelic, Progressive, Experimental, Blues, Funk, Soul, ballads, even borderline Heavy Metal ("Helter Skelter"). They didn't limit themselves to what they thought their fanbase expected from them or what they thought would sell. It helped to have a manager and record label that supported that.

  • @jimfenski3111
    @jimfenski3111 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

Since you guys like metal, the next song you react to should be Helter Skelter. Many considerate it to be one of the first metal songs ever recorded. I’m happy you‘re branching out into other types of rock music. The Beatles were part of what was called the “British Invasion”in the 60s and early 70s. It would be great to hear you react to bands like the The Rolling Stones, The Who and The Kinks. Btw that chill voice you mentioned belongs to John Lennon one of the greatest artists in rock ‘n’ roll history… trust me his voice isn’t always so chill! I hope as you explore The Beatles you’ll get to know all of the individual members of the band. They are all very talented! Great reaction!

Wait till you hear the lyrics to I am the Walrus.John Lennon had heard that schools were trying to analyze their lyrics and he threw in the lyrics all hodge podge to purposely confuse the analysts. He handed the song over to producer. George Martin who orchestrated parts to it , but at 1st, had no idea what he was suppose to do with it. The 2 previous songs that you said you've heard, Paul McCartney, was the lead singer. This one had John on lead vocals. Their songs varied from love songs like Here, There, and Everywhere and Something to experimental , esoteric(Day in the Life) to Ringo's children like songs-Octopus's Garden, and Yellow Submarine. Have fun getting into the Beatles!!!

if you want to hear where the verse melody came from, and why there was a lawsuit about it, play Chuck Berry's "You can't catch me" at a slower speed. When Lennon covered "Can't catch me" as part of the lawsuit settlement he did it slow, sounding as much like "Come together" as he could (IMO).

Multi-miking drums is just one innovation of many in the music industry perfected by the Beatles music team.
The drum kit was originally picked up by a maximum of two mics - one on kick drum and the other as an overhead above the snare.
In order to get a bigger drum sound, they introduced a mic on each drum as well as one underneath the snare.
This selection demonstrates that inique drum sound.

There IS a reason they are still the best ever nearly 60 years later. They started out at the top and stayed that way until they disbanded. Of course this song was at the end of their stint. If you haven't heard many of their other tracks, you have a huge rabbit hole ahead of you.

First, I’d like to recommend that you listen to The Beatles the way we did. Start at their beginning in the US in 1963 and work your way chronologically through albums and released singles. Try not to flip around from year to year, otherwise you won’t get the remarkable progression of their music.
We heard them over the radio first. Then, they were featured on the Ed Sullivan Show. Even after their first tv appearance, the main way to listen was on the radio or to buy an album and listen to it all the way through. There weren’t any music videos yet, not until The Beatles came out with one of the first in 1965. I don’t really recommend the music videos other than live performances. Most are very foolish and detract from the music.
    Now, consider this…
In the weeks before The Beatles came over to the USA in February 1964, the top songs were “There! I've Said It Again” by Bobby Vinton, “Louie Louie” by The Kingsmen, “Dominique” by The Singing Nun (yes! A real nun), “Popsicles and Icicles” by The Murmaids and “The Nitty Gritty” by Shirley Ellis. (It would be fun for you to listen to these as comparison.)
Young men all had short hair; mostly crewcuts, and were always clean shaven, and, for the most part, everyone followed the rules. You really must put yourself in that time period.
Then, here come The Beatles! They have outrageously long hair! They’re irreverent when talking to the press! They write their own music! (This was RARELY done.) They are obviously having FUN!
We, as a country, were in mourning. Our young, handsome President had been assassinated just two months before. The Beatles were “candy” for a grieving country, especially the youth. Some people today say that The Beatles are over-rated. That could possibly make sense if you’ve only listened to a few of their songs. Where The Beatles stand out is when you view their accomplishments in their entirety. (Fun fact, NONE of The Beatles could read music and none had taken professional music lessons, but they played DOZENS of instruments and wrote over 200 songs in less than 10 years.) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
They had 27 #1 hits in the US and UK. (And only recorded from 1963 to 1970.)
They are the only band to ever have the top five positions in the Billboard Top 100 (April 4, 1964, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “Please Please Me.”).
The ONLY band to ever have 14 songs in the Top 100 at the same time (April 11, 1964).
First band to play in a stadium (Shea Stadium, August 15, 1965)
They were the first to release “music videos” as promotions. (Paperback Writer and Rain, 1965).
Among the first to use synthesizers, electronic keyboards, animal sounds, jet engine sounds and backward recordings in their songs. Their many innovative techniques revolutionized the recording industry.
They were among the first to use horns and strings in popular music.
The first band to use feedback in a recording. (I Feel Fine, 1964)
They were one of the first to use a sitar in popular music. (Norwegian Wood, 1965)
They were the first band where each member was a featured lead singer.
The first satellite worldwide broadcast, “Our World”, included The Beatles performing All You Need Is Love in 1968.
They were the first band to have a #1 hit record that was over 7 minutes long (Hey, Jude). The standard record at the time was 3 minutes. They were told the radio stations would never play it. John said, “Sure they will.” When asked why, he said “Because we’re The Beatles”.
They had the first rock-concept album and the first to list all the lyrics on the album. (Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band).
One of the first bands to popularize the “word-less” album cover (Abbey Road). ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Those who think The Beatles only played Pop music have obviously never really listened to them. The MAIN attraction, back in the day, was that you never knew what you were going to get with a new Beatles album.
Here are some examples of Beatles songs in different genres:
    • Skiffle: “Maggie Mae”
    • Rock and Roll: “Twist and Shout”
    • Pop: “She Loves You”
    • Folk Rock: “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)”
    • Country: “Act Naturally”
    • Heavy Metal-"Helter Skelter" (quite possibly the first Heavy Metal song)
    • Blues Rock-"Yer Blues"
    • Psychedelic Rock-"Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"
    • Ska-"Ob-la Di Ob-la Da"
    • Jazz-"Honey Pie"
    • Ballad- “Yesterday”, “Something” “Here, There, Everywhere” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
What other band reached such heights of popularity BEFORE releasing their BEST albums? They were thought to be at the pinnacle of success when they stopped touring and the word at the time was that they were committing commercial suicide.
And THEN they came out with Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road… The Beatles have sold 1.6 BILLION singles and 177 million albums. It’s been over 50 years since they broke up, yet here we are, still talking about them and young people still finding out how amazing they are.

@@cadifferentreactions It's that "shhh" sound in Come together. Lennon had a quirky sense of humor. From time to time he loved to confuse listeners (especially those, who were manically searching for secret messages in Beatles songs). A prime example: I am the walrus.
In total, one can hear 15+ different genres in the Beatles discography, many of which were presented in a style-defining way by the Beatles and have inspired musicians en masse over the last 60 years.

Actually, it’s a rip off of a Chuck Berry song.. a lot of the lyrics and the tune… Paul told John to slow it down and he wrote a different baseline, but John had to put two Chuck Berry songs on his next two albums to pay the royalty fee to Chuck Berry..🤷‍♂️

    • @jonathan.palfrey
      @jonathan.palfrey 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@phillipfitton8364 According to Wikipedia, it was originally based on the Chuck Berry song (which I haven’t heard), but most of the lyrics are Lennon’s, and the music was put together by the Beatles. I doubt that the Chuck Berry song (from 1956) sounded much like the Beatles song, although there was evidently enough remaining similarity for a legal case. In the context of the Beatles, it’s a Lennon song, rather than a McCartney song or a Harrison song. To be more accurate, it’s a Lennon song loosely based on a Chuck Berry song.
