    Love the man maths, I did the same with my Rolex, had the money in the bank doing nothing, I now have a watch which I wear everyday, I love it, if I need to get my money back, I can sell it, my missus actually understood for a change, plus watches if bought right won't depreciate as much as a car

    Using his man maths I have just optioned and ordered a fully loaded (60k in options ) porsche taycan gts sport turismo😀
    £209'000 all in,and I intend to run it for 2 months and sell it back to porsche for £207'000 (bag of sand a month depreciation according to mike👍)
    Took some doing to convince my wife to remortgage the house for 25 years, but it's a fantastic financial awareness I had not considered.
    I assume insurance will be simular to our soon to be sold on face book market place, 2005 peugeot 207.

    Having experienced main dealers guys i can only agree with your observations. They assume they’re above the parapet as far as customer service is concerned whereas the opposite is true. Complacency is the word. Independent dealers try so much harder to attract and keep customers knowing full well they will return if treated with courtesy an respect. Keep up the good work! 🙂

    It is very rare these days visiting main dealers to feel special ..its like theyre not interested in making a good impression and selling cars ..too much trouble..One Automotive on the other hand are like a breath of fresh air and come across really well you only have to see their reviews and my recent dealings with James echos this..nothing is too much trouble and clearly staying humble and providing 5 star service affords success .Keep up the good work Mike,James and team.

    The principle is kind of right in a way, but realistically the dealer would give you £10k less than what you paid for it as soon as you drive away, let alone in 6 months time.

    Moving money to a depreciating asset isnt psychology, that same money "could" have been used in appreciating assets and made you money instead. Some cars which are actually assets, with potential for "overs" or to maintain their values, then yeah you could say its a store of money, store of value but its a limiting market.
    Realistically who cares about all that, you wanted a Porsche, you can afford to do so, its bloody lovely.......good on you.

  • @scottparratt3103
    @scottparratt3103 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    His trading up series from a decade ago had a slightly different psychology! but the point here is valid as long as you are sitting on a lump of cash now and fully consider the costs at the outset, the depreciation isn't a known low amount, an economic slump could leave you holding the baby, and if you rotate cars frequently the hit each time can take a lot of your money by ther end of your car buying journey, unless you private buy and private sell which has it's downsides too. Car are fun and get under your skin but are expensive so always go in with your eyes wide open, enjoy life and cars, but don't let the buzz/passion ruin your finances!!

    Yes, I understand the money thing. When we bought a second house to rent out, the money is still there in the property + incoming rent. Not quite the same with a car… most cars costing £100,000, will probably lose 15% of the value in 6 months.

    Lovely car Mike and exactly the way I look at it. My 981 cost me £35000 5 years ago. Now sold for £30000. So it cost me £1000 a year to own my dream car. Man maths at its very best 😂

    • @geztaylor
      @geztaylor 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah kinda....
      Average S&P 500 return for last 5yrs is 15.37%
      Compound that return for 5yrs and the original 35K investment becomes 60k
      So your car really cost you 25k, still only 5k a great for your dream car, so not to bad but it makes you think.

  • @johngarnham5772
    @johngarnham5772 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I always thought about it like that. Using your money not spending it. Mike could probably sell the Targa in 3-4 months time (in the summer) and make money on it due to it's appeal and rarity. Nice car Mike, good choice and you let someone else take the hit on it from brand new. The big depreciation is now gone.

    The point on main dealer franchised group versus independent owner dealer equally applies to maintenance and repair. Eyewatering labour and parts prices at the main dealer with often very little care or imagination taken on how to value the customers business by working diligently to solve problems. Finding a good local independent technician will often be worth its weight in gold as each customer is a larger part of that smaller business who will be keen to have you return. Of course there are good and bad at every level however anyone who has not called in or tried an independent workshop for servicing really is missing out. As for the Targa wishing Mike many miles of happy motoring. Thank you.

Also as you say you buy a car today and spend that money and I’m a little bit like you after about 6/7 months maybe year. I move on and I just look upon it that I’ve always got a good price for the car I’ve had looked after it never done a lot of miles in it just enjoyed it and what I lose from buying it. It would’ve cost me in a hire car or go places on a train. All the best.
