One of the most strongly held convictions by believers is that there can be no moral life without belief in god.
What is amazing to me is that on average atheists care so much more than christian believers about how we leave the planet behind for the next generations. Christian (un)logic seems to be who cares about the environment, I've got god.

    • @JoBo301

Bollocks - there is no obligation for atheists to even be 'moral' people. Under atheism it is a free-for-all and you can do whatever you want - there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to live.

Christians may not be the greatest stewards of the planet, that's true, and it's probably because they're more concerned about other things, but no, it's not "Christian (un)logic" that determines whether someone cares about the planet or not, that's determined by class and wealth
National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) wrote a paper titled "Income, Wealth, and Environmental Inequality in the United States" that explores this concept if you like but you should intuitively understand that if you're super broke and struggling, you've got other things to worry about than the oxygen and carbon levels of the atmosphere
If you're serious about preserving the planet for future generations, then you should concern yourself with eliminating poverty everywhere because only in the absence of poverty can a person give a damn about the oxygen and carbon levels of the atmosphere

The reason for their uncaring approach to the planet is they fully believe in the end times, end of the world and "a new heaven and new earth" that is promised in their scriptures. Why do they care what happens to this world when they are promised a new one?

I might consider what you are saying as being true if the people being “true” atheists had not been brought up in proximity (in home, neighborhood, community, country) to be influenced by the teachings on of Christianity on morality as to what it is -be as moral as the best representatives of Christianity.

I remember being scared to death as a child fearing the judgment day. My strict fundamentalist religion required baptism for salvation (no sprinkling, total immersion). The reason I was baptized as a boy was because I didn’t want to go to hell. I was kicked out of my church when I came out as gay. I have been an atheist for a few years but I will never tell my family. My parents are gone, but my two sisters are still in the church we were raised in. They have lived a life of constant fear, so afraid they won’t make it to heaven. I love your videos!

Great video. So many gems. So many memories from my youth going to church as a child came back.
    1. My mother raised my older brother and I going to a church in Maryland called Our Lady of Sorrows. I didn't complain even though I was too young for it to make any sense to me, because after church we would go to the House of Pancakes. That was my incentive for going to church and not saying anything.
    2. Oh, another memory flashed back. Sometimes I would accompany my mother when she went grocery shopping. Just me and my mother. At one point, before we approached the checkout line, my mother would grab the Sunday newspaper and a copy of Vogue magazine. She would slip the Vogue magazine inside the Sunday paper. So, when we checked out, she was only charged for the groceries and the Sunday paper. I've never asked her about it. I've never judged her for it, even to her directly. But, it's a real memory.
    3. The whole "Jesus died for your sins" was a concept that never stuck with me. When I first heard it, I was like, "huh?". How does someone's death 2,000 years ago have anything to do with me? Much less have anything to with my choices.
    4. Thousands of people die every year from hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, disease, famine, cancer, etc. If God created the Earth, he did a terrible job. And if God created us, why do our teeth rot so quickly? Why don't our teeth last our whole life?
    5. Why give us a short life on this planet, a life we actually know about, and promise an eternal life AFTER this one? Why not give us a long life to begin with, and end it IF we actually do something evil or wrong against others?
    6. Supposedly, Jeffrey Dahmer repented and converted to Christianity in prison before being killed by an inmate. Are we to believe he's in Heaven now? Try telling that to the families of his victims.
I could go on. But, I just have to read the Bible to see what a monster God is portrayed as.

I appreciate your ability to laugh out loud at your previously held beliefs. I went through an eight year deconstruction process in which I was stuck in the ‘angry atheist’ phase. I was totally outraged that I had been lied to and resented the lost opportunities and real harm that a devotion to a lie had produced. I was also angry that I had been made to believe ludicrous things by being continuously exposed to childhood indoctrination. When I would have occasion to recall the ludicrous beliefs that I once held factual and dear I could feel the anger and resentment rise up.
Your example has helped me over this hurtle and guided me to the realization that religious lies have less power over you when you treat them in the manner that they deserve - ridicule. Laughing at yourself for believing the ridiculous is disarming and allows you/one to place religious superstition in its proper place and completely robs it of the power it has over you.
That’s exactly what I was looking for. A method of disarming the power that religious lies had over me. I had come to realize that religious myths (lies) had complete power over me when I was a believer. It guided my behavior, thought, politics, guilt, and view of the world. But I also came to realize that religious myths STILL had power over me in the form of resentment, anger, and disgust. Laughter at the ridiculous helps me disarm these emotions and put them in their proper place.

Up until a year ago when I finally threw in the towel on religion, I lived in fear. Fear that something I said or did was a sin or unpleasing to god. Fear that my current life was too selfish and self-centered because I have food to eat and a roof over my head. Fear that I was going to give in to some kind of temptation and have to account for it in front of the big throne in the sky. Now that I have decided I'll never be good enough anyway and let myself see that it's all a fantasy story anyway, I feel SO much better. Your videos lay it on the line and I really enjoy them and learn from them. Thank you, Timmy!

My parents were the most moral, honest, kind, forgiving people on the planet and neither of them was religious. Three quarters of Christians are mostly scared of going to hell and about a quarter of them are fundamentally immoral people (scared, too - and feeling really guilty) for whom religion is a front - based upon my experience in church as an adult. Religion is a cover, for a certain percentage of people who are predisposed to seriously bad behaviour (lying, cheating, thieving, etc.). The message I got from my parents, absent any kooky religion, was that kindness and decency were there own rewards. My parents were fundamentally good people - they didn't need religion to try to fool anybody, they weren't sitting around fearing hell, and they didn't view these odd mythologies as "history". I got wrangled into going to an evangelical church wife as an adult (by an ex wife) and, man, what a weird experience. There's not a shred of evidence that anything in the Christian Bible is true beyond some very basic philosophies about kindness, forgiveness, etc. - which in my world is just common sense, anyway. How does anybody believe this stuff? Religion is a big racket, too.

Hey Timmy, I have to sincerely give you thanks for your videos. Grew up in a pretty devout household and when I was around 18 I started getting more and more "evangelical" in my beliefs. I shipped out to USMC boot camp right around then, did a bunch of training, tried to convert my then ex fiancée, and eventually deployed. I was at such a state when I was overseas I even tried to convert the locals into Christianity. After a few rough patches and some pretty nasty stuff, i started questioning my entire thought process and where I really fit into things. After coming across your stuff, it's really helped me reflect on my past better, and crystallize my thoughts. I Kind of see now that yes, I was an ass, and it's OK to not have those strong religious beliefs any more.
Now I help volunteer around my community not because "I'll get judged after I die" but rather out of a genuine want to help those around me. Embracing my more agnostic side has seriously helped my mental health, so again, thanks for helping me along this journey.

Believers emphasize the whole "saved by faith" thing. NOT what Jesus said. "The gates of heaven are narrow; work hard to get in". The faith thing is a PAUL thing...a Pharisee who SUPPOSEDLY had a vision on a trip. No way to prove it. And SO much of the modern Christian belief system shouldn't even be labeled that. Most current believers should be called Paulians instead, because they take WAY more from his supposed writings than the supposed words of Jesus.

And, you are preachin it right when you say that Evangelicals believe wholeheartedly that you can live a despicable life here on earth and still go to Heaven in the end as long as you "Ask Jesus in your heart" It just is ridiculous because it's not even common sense justice.
It makes a lot more sense to believe a perfect God would reward you for doing good than rather just believing that someone else's death paid for your sins like a get out of jail free card.

Also any interpretation of "gods" humans create will always be limited to a human mind no matter what you do or take. In the end i just try to do whats best for the people on this earth, earth itself, and myself to make life more liveable for everyone right now. Ill deal with the afterlife later (if there is one).

It's intriguing how there are truly evil people in this world who I wish would face some form of judgment or punishment-just not that eternal kind. The problem I have with the Bible is that someone can act terribly and simply ask for forgiveness, while their victim suffers because they weren't convinced or didn't receive forgiveness before they died. This doesn’t make sense if there is a God or judgment after death. I would expect that judgment would be based on morals rather than beliefs.

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. He proceeds to tell me about having some attack where he can't breath and his vision blurred and he asked God to give him a second chance and suddenly it went away.
This only made me angrier because he has had many second chances, but I knew that what he started with was the lesson I was supposed to learn; forever is forever and even if it means 90 years of someone getting away with murder, it's not worse than what's waiting for them on the other side if they don't turn from their ways, so God doesn't see a problem taking His time letting people get away in this life because once that door of mercy is shut it's not opening ever again.

@@johnmonk3381 If dreams are all we have, then on some level they should be taken seriously. What makes sense to me after quite a bit of research on this topic, is that after death, what we may come into contact with is the repressed material of our sub conscious mind. Believing in post death judgement vs believing there is no post death judgement may be irrelevant. All the mental material you've accumulated throughout your life must be clearly seen, including the suppressed shadow of the sub conscious. This process can be described as a judgement as the conscious mind is forced to witness its deepest fears and anxieties.

@@larolddunahey So why should i or anyone else listen to your opinions about dreams? Thanks but no thanks! If pre-death dreams are real, then everybody should be rushing to dying people and ask for lottery numbers, won't they! Instead what do these dying people keep seeing?? Bright lights, angels, jesus, hell, heaven or whatever. Well christian people keep seeing jesus. But hindus, buddhists, chinese or other creeds see other things! 🤣🤣
