Can't believe we live in a time where a company releases a complete video game and everyone loses their freaking minds
This is the real take. I think Yahtzee made a video pointing out that most of this hype is due to the context of so much early access and incomplete stuff, rather than being completely on its own merits.
Change complete for "Complex" , because the game is not finished, the last act is severly undercooked
It isn't complete lol
@@elvenadohostil8607 yea last act had more issues and bugs then first 2 combined. Still good tho

You know a game is good when Alex is smiling the whole time.
Amen dude. You don't see Alex smile a whole lot so when he does smile, it means something seriously awesome is happening.
It's an amazing sight to see. I love this game and love that people are enjoying it too.
Alex is biased, he loves cRPGs
@Jabrownie23 What a stupid take. I don't say that often. That's like saying to a food review person. You're biased. You like pizza better than steak...
Of course he has preferences. That doesn't mean his review is any less credible whether the cRPG is bad OR good. Just admit you wanted him to not like the game😂
He's faking having a personality so he can collect his TH-cam cheque.
you got to admire Joe's dedication. a decade since skit based reviews died on TH-cam but he keeps staying the course...
I guess I was under a rock because I don't even remember anyone else doing skits with reviews.

if the player base is demanding a DLC you know you've made a 10/10 game
EDIT 9/12/2023: GAME OF THE YEAR LETS GO!!!
Edit #2: Sadly Larian said there will be no DLC ever.
Keep in mind Stellaris was intentionally made very bland, so Paradox Interactive can push out DLC after DLC for the solo purpose of cash grab mostly :(.
@momchilandonov very terrible comparison

not necessarily. People demand DLC for paradox games because the base game is always extremely barebones
10/10 xDD this game was such a let down

I'm sure it's already been said but the fact that Alex is portraying a Dwarf is fucking classic.
He's just of the Giant Dwarf subrace.

I must admit, I can't help by be a tad proud of my fellow countrymen. A Belgian game developer not only making a good game but making a great game that is appreciated across the world. A game that is made for the gamer not for the stockholders. Something that all those big American, British or French game studios haven't been able to do for over a decade.

Shit they have been doing it if you ask me. Larian is top tier.
Hell yeah Belgium!
and for the second time. I personally think Divinity Original Sin 2 is one of the better CRPGs of all time. Like, top 5. They took everything they learned from it and applied it here and it shows. Outstanding work by Larian.

I got the game four days ago... I am already 26 hours in. This game is gonna roll a 20 against my social life.
I think the thing that actually sold me was in the spider pit of act 1, there is a hole just in the middle of the room you can jump into, I thought, hey the game won't let me do this, and I jumped down the hole and went splat in a cutscene... I then tried again with feather fall thinking it's just going to instantly kill me again, but no, I survived and went right into the underdark... and died as two minotaur's came over to wreck my level 2 party.
The rune checkpoint actually gave me small nudge cuz I was thinking why would they put it near the end of a dungeon when other checkpoints tend to have different pathway you can go to. Really a ligh bulb moment when I found out my ans.

What’s crazy to me is how much fun this game is for any player who is even slightly creative, but some of the stuff is absolutely insane. If owlbear from the top rope has been discovered in the first couple months who knows what’ll be discovered a year from now once people break the game apart
This game deserves game of the year, it's been such a labor of love. I did get the early access, and it was fun to keep tabs on the development. I didn't ever complete act 1, because I didn't want too many spoilers, and I knew they'd make a great product. (Also getting a free upgrade to the digital deluxe was a nice surprise)
On a side note, The Dark Urge feels like such the main character of this campaign, my first playthrough was a Good Dark Urge and there were so many 'Oh my god...' moments. I can't wait to re-play as the other origin characters as well.
You know it's a very good game when OJ didn't hesitate to *bear* it all.
All I can say is Larian studios deserve our recognition and support. They are true devs in our eyes who share the love and passion for gaming.
Just before the epic final showdown, I gathered with all the allies I had collected from this incredible adventure. I gave them a rousing speech to inspire them for one final fight! They all pledged their lives to help their champion defend Baldur's gate.
Unfortunately, I accidently stole a silver tray, my allies really did not like that, turned hostile, killed me, so I was unable to save the city and everyone died.
Seriously though, Amazing game :)
Seriously!??? lmao
At least you didn't accidentally steal someone's drink and get forced to work undercover in an intergalactic crime syndicate. 😏
This is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I hope other game developers and publishers take note so we can have more amazing games in the future instead of the trash most AAA companies have been making.
I am 42 years old and I never thought a game would make me happy ever again. I finished it in 143 hours, and only discovered 53% of the content. I plan to play it again with the dark urge. It is quite frankly the best game of the last 10 years IMO.
I'm 47 and ABSOLUTELY agree with you! I had over 150 hours in the open Beta just F-ing around, and now am playing through a second time after buying it for my uncle so he could play through together and I can see how his choices and rolls differ. I told him when we started I would NOT tell him anything other than suggesting to SAVE OFTEN...lol...this is gonna be fun!!!

Im 39 and been playing rpgs since before windows times... this is the best RPG i ever played hands down. I Played 170 hours on one playthrough and got obout 70% of the achievements I think... but really you know that you can replay it and do so much stuff differently on the second go. This game is a generational cornerstone no matter the discourse and artificial controversy that surrounds that fact. We will be getting more games like these and Larian will cement itself as the leading force behind it with many trying to achieve this level of mastery. We are witnessing Fromsoft/Dark Souls level of game design impact on the industry that is for sure.
Im 42 as well. Might be the best game ive ever played. And thats at launch! Usually i wait a year to play rpgs so they are patched. Yes there are bugs but even now its easily as playable as other rpgs after a year.

As someone who usually hates turn based games, Baldur's Gate 3 is some of the most fun I've had in a game. Larian for the win!
This is what I want to hear. I have ranted against the TB combat since the game was announced. if enough people like you recommend it, I will be encouraged to get it.
My barbarian just killed two dudes with a sword, picked off a third with a bow, then picked up one of the dead dudes at her feet and threw it at another guy for a fourth kill. The turn-based combat is REALLY versatile.
@@blackcaesar8387 I think a lot of people who aren't fans tb combat, who like this one is how you open you are to even start most fights. You don't have to be honest and start fights fairly "wink" or you can even get some bosses to kill themselves haha. Also your environment in fights do matter.

@@CLARENCErr Yes. Between exploring, figuring out buffs, dealing with vendors, finding dyes and meticulously dying my Adamantine armour, etc. it took me roughly 50 hours on Act 1 content alone. This is including the githyanki crèche plot and my couple hours spent trying to figure out the Blood of Lathander subplot in the monastery without a guide. If the whole game was as strong and varied as Act 1, it would be literally perfect for me. The writing just started to sour in Act 2, especially with companions like Karlach.
The best part is how the studio kept listening to criticisms, reports about bugs, and has continuously improved the game since it launched. They just dropped a bigass major patch #5 which added lots of stuff and fixes, so it's even better to play as time goes on.
This game is pretty legendary. Just some minor things that I wish could be done. Better appearance customization. Like sliders for the body proportions to make fat/skinny tall/shorter bigger arms skinnier arms, ect.
And more romance options than the main characters of story. I haven’t gone through all story so there may be more but I feel it’s be more fulfilling to get other NPC’s as options like the tiefling making the song next to the grove. Or goblins cause why the heck not.

I remember when they first announced this game, because Baldur's gate 2 is my favorite game of all time, I was a little bit worried. It felt almost exploitative that larian was calling this game Baldur's gate even though it had Divinity combat and the story was seemingly disconnected from the other two games. I finally beat the game about a week ago and I've started a co-op playthrough with my friends. Baldur's gate 3 did the impossible, it's surpassed Baldur's gate 2 in my mind. Don't get me wrong, both games are still absolutely fantastic but you can see the progression of CRPGs over the years when you compare BG2 and BG3. You can see how they integrated mechanics from games like Disco Elysium and Divinity original sin 2 into the formula that was defined by the original Baldur's gate games. Bg 3 is a milestone in gaming and It will likely not be surpassed for a long time.
They have a $10 option to buy the deluxe version of the game. And honestly I bought it just so I could give them another $10. This game was absolutely amazing and I’m not even finished with it yet.

On just pc?
Wait till they patch it. Act three is not good as act one or two and two isn't as great as act one
“How does it make any money?!”
“BECAUSE ITS A GOOD FUCKING GAME!”
Well said! 😂
Yes, BG3 will make money. But will it make as much profit as a game designed with maximum profit in mind like Diablo IV? There's no question in my mind that BG3 is the better game for the player, but for all the well deserved praise BG3 is getting, I expect there are lots of games out there that will make a much higher profit.
@@rodh1404 Turns out there are people out there with morals and dignity. Wringing every single dollar out of your consumers as possible reduces consumer confidence. For example, I will not be buying another Blizzard game after Diablo 4, because I could not play the game for 24 hours on my day off from work; because Blizzard forces everyone to be online at all times (in a singleplayer game) so they can milk their microtransactions. Making millions while still having a good relationship with your consumers > Slapping your consumers around to make as much money as possible.
@@rodh1404 Yes, until the consumer wises up to the corporate greed that is scamming them. BG3 may educate, who knows. @@sassysaddles9981 No, it is by every metric. And since I'm a player with 25+ years of experience I have a certain perspective. If you don't like it it's fine, but this game is going to be remembered for decades as a milestone of the genre.
The level 12 cap makes sense. It's the same reason why most 5e adventure paths end at 13-14. Because tier 4 play is drastically different. You're basically demi-gods at those upper levels flinging some powerful abilities and spells. It feels like an entirely different experience than lower level play. Which is basically what larian said as well.
Yeah but you're doing outrageously epic-level things. Killing devils, killing the avatars of Illithid Brains and demigods, killing entire armies and leaders of Sharran churches. These are not level 12 activities.
It might be capped at 12 but the magic absolutely plays like 21+.
My biggest complaint is how nothing is special anymore. Tieflings, Drow, Devils, Monsters, etc, are just everywhere. Hanging out in taverns and joining your party and everything. It's a very odd choice and makes it difficult to roleplay your class if you're constantly compelled to take them on as allies or ignore their existence on the city streets.
Everything needs to be an avengers level threat though.
@@rokindokin7949brings to mind "If everyone is super, no one is" Don't mind me, the level 8 Bard killing the avatar of a god.
@@SamuelCatsy Heresy, believe in the power of your medieval rock n roll, blast them with the notes until they no longer have a face. LMAO
@@TommyCook-lf4xy you know, I'm not that familiar with DnD systems, but I know developers manage things much better when there's a limit to expectations and scope of the project. It's not impossible, but I believe the game _would_ be drastically different, simply because the powers ARE powerful. Much more than the previous level spells.
"Beary" made my day.
As a side-note: Someone will get this bear costume back
I've never played a game like balder's gate, literally and metaphorically. I've never touched rpgs until this game, the closest thing I have is CK3 coming from a first person/open world background mainly. I have played many a game whether its just to try for fun or something i really sink my teeth into, but this game makes all minus a select few pale in comparison. I have never played a game so rich and detailed and with such a tremendous amount of depth. I thought the passion for great games died awhile ago and everything, even most "passion projects" sell out and become cash cows with in-game purchases. Its good to finally see a real passion project done right, and justly so.
To help anyone on the fence about playing dark urge. You dont have to make him a villain, he can be a hero. Its pretty much just opting in to even more story
Exactly. He can be as much of a hero as you turn Wyll into a villain. Lol
While true, there is at least one unavoidable murder the game forces you to make. And if you're attached to that character, well...I'm saving Dark Urge for a second or third playthrough.
@@arkhamcreed4326 which one is that one? I'm in Act 3.

Alfira, so no.
@@kahinaloren I either did that already or haven't found that character yet. Lol
The amount of creativity the game lets you have is insane. Pushing people off ledges, throwing environmental objects, freezing water on the ground randomly or lighting oil on fire, stacking crates to get to knew areas, etc etc etc there’s just so much going on that’s outside of whats the forward hand hold mechanics.
You say all that but you could done that in another game of theirs Divinity Original Sin 2 and prob 1 but never played it.
RIGHT! Crates stacking man! I found whole new world up above.

not only that, the past 3 patches have added such good things ESPECIALLY being able to see your companions off in an epilogue. 11/10 game
And the magic mirror to change your appearance. And a better ending for Karlach, since players thought hers was lackluster, even if you did everything right for her. They're actually trying to make a good game, and it's weird how uncommon that is.
It was nice to see Joe, OJ and Alex having fun for a change!
Just started playing it yesterday and for a guy who neither likes nor plays such games (CRPGs), I simply LOVE IT! What a fool I have been! The best thing about this game is the love and passion that went into making it: a true, pro-comsumer piece of art.
You've just convinced me. Was on the fence as I've literally never played a turn based game but I'm gonna give it a try now
@ArtForm460 Good luck and Godspeed, sir/ma'am. I wish you the best of fortune!
Happened to me with Divinity OS 2. I never liked turn based until I tried it. 100hs in my first playthrough and My favorite game of all time
There's so many things you can do. Hell, last night I found a pair of magic rings where one takes the injury for the other and the journals from the husband and wife.
The husband kept getting injured again and again and eventually died, and the wife was living with throwing caution to the wind knowing her husband is suffering for her and reveling in it because she was an evil worshipper.
And that's just two random items with nothing pointing you towards them. They're just some environmental storytelling.
I absolutely hate turn based games because they're just mind-numbingly boring to me, but for some reason I cannot put this game down
The "Game" Awards was insanely disrespectful to the devs when they tried to make their speech.
They have since added a closet mechanic. It doesnt fix the if you have 4 friends at same time problem. But if one friend isnt playing you can send their character into a closet and pickup story character
Seeing Joe in the first few MINUTES just talking praise of a game and him explaining it in pure delight is pure magic. More power to games of this incredible caliber (and thanks a ton for Joe on the review, of course).
Other Studios; Nooo you cant do that, that will us others look like idiots. Larian; *sips tadpole juice* bet?
Honestly, this game is the first in a long time where I'm actually constantly excited to keep playing. Like when I'm at work, I'll get excited to start playing again in the evening. And when I do start playing, it's hard to stop playing. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good games, but this one is special to me.
Yes! I havent felt this feeling in so long.
Same here! I started playing last week and had to pace myself to not finish it too quickly and savor it.
GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!!
This game is deserving of GOTY,
I do feel bad for Zelda fans tho, I know how highly people thought of it.
Ez win, ez life.
Poor Joe got catfished by the Dream Guardian.
Baldur’s Gate 3 feels like a game made by people who actually care about good gaming.
(Could not tell you how much laughter I got from actually pulling off an Owlbear from the Top Rope.)
What's sad and funny is we have other trash developers who don't care about their games and only care about stealing your wallet getting jealous and trying to down play this game. Am glad theres still studios who still care and want to make top tier games with no micro transactions.
OJ never disappoints to make us laugh. Great review Joe.
"BaRRy TaKeS CaRe oF My NEeDs, JoE" 🤣😂
As much as the angry rants are entertaining, DAMN is it great to see Joe smile. Brings hope.
Baldur's Gate 3 is the most fun I had in multiplayer with friends since Divinity, which happens to also have been made by Larian Studios. They're on a roll.
they rolled a nat 20 plus prof bonus
Thanks for convincing me AngryJoe team. I usually wait for your honest reviews on big releases. Downloading the BG3 now.
Have fun! I'm not a crpg guy at all but I never put so many hours in a game. It's just fun

@@curzon9619lol you obviously have not played the game.
@@TheN9nth Having beaten the game he's not wrong, the companions try to fuck you at every turn. After knowing Lae'zel for a total of 2 days she suddenly says to me "I LONG FOR YOUR SCENT, I WANT TO TASTE YOU"
Funny thing about squirrels, the first I saw I kicked into a tree and it became a red stain on the ground, that urge 😮
I really struggle to get into isometric and turn based games but wanna try this
Don’t, you’d be wasting your money. These reviewers are paid shills.
Nah don't believe that guy who said you're wasting your money. If you're into RPGs where you create a character that functions into a fantasy universe filled with lore, you'd pretty much like this game for its freedom of choice in play style or in terms of roleplaying. I myself just started a week ago and I'm hooked. If you do get into it, I suggest playing with a controller as you're able to move the characters around with the left stick like in action-adventure games, and the UI is definitely cleaner in comparison to what you're seeing in Angry Joe's screen as he's playing with KB+M.
If you do dont feel ashamed to play it on easy to get into it
Was the exact same way when this game came out. Just beat honour mode last week with my lvl 12 Durge druid.
Act 3 has its issues but still a relative 10 based on what weve gotten for the past 10 years.
This game and Elden Ring are legendary. BG3 is probably the best game I’ve ever played. It’s so immersive. Hated turn base combat but I LOVE it in this game.
They should really just allow every party member to have a "companion" where you can take one of the story party members around with you but they effectively disappear during combat if you're playing in coop or have a full party etc. I think it'd be cool and it would solve the quest issues.
Perhaps allow a party member to take over that companion like you would if people in multiplayer join your singleplayer game. Park your character like one of the mercenaries in camp and take over the companion for however long you want
@@TheRlDennisjust play the origin character at that point...
@@Pablud3Swhat? That doesn’t fix the problem lmao
To be fair i think every Origin should be considered 'in party' at all times unless they are dead/have left. You will just use four characters, but you are able to interact with other camp members freely out of combat, you can trade, talk or switch party members as you see fit in 'safe areas' in dangerous areas however they will just join in for some essential conversations. It wouldn't really change anything except reducing the amount of load screens... It's not like any player would just head to a party quest without associated origin anyway.
@@magnuscarlsson9969 It would be nice if they could just show up for the conversations/questlines they're required for. Karlach especially comes to mind because of the infernal iron stuff. The others not to sure about because they usually have some kind of fail state dialogue. I think the easiest thing would be for you to swap/trade characters in camp that aren't being played already. Would problaby make it a bit less tedious to swap around party members overall aswell
I love how it took Joe 40 minutes to start talking about combat. Just goes to show how good everything else is that most games lack
I never would have thought my daughter would be into D&D, but I saw that she had this game on her Steam wish list, so I got it for her on her birthday, which was right when the game was launching. I have seen her logged into the game almost every day since, for hours at a time. =D
Probably more into Astarion than really into D&d but it's ok
It’s been a long time since I’ve played dnd but baldurs gate 3 looks like a blast and I’ve been thinking about trying it

I celebrate this release. A true return to how gaming should be and always be.... But I'm just hoping this clout doesn't end up corrupting the minds of the studio and the devs and the publisher that brought us this true masterpiece. Because history has shown us time and time again that this is the true future of these studios.................. I hope it's different this time around.
Bro you should, this game is an eldritch blast
The skits in this were as fantastic as the game A++ everyone
The "meta gamer" bit reminded me of sitting in on my first Magic the Gathering game. Like actual spells are easier to cast than the recital of the Gettysburg Address i found myself listening to
OJ must loving doing these unexpected review moments. I love these reviews awesome work guys 👌
I have about 200 hours into this game. 100 in pre-release and just hit over 100 in full game. I can say that this is one of the best games I've played in a long time. Definitely feels like one of those games that defines a decade. I think we'll start to see some more like this coming out taking inspiration (hopefully). I'm pumped for Starfield but taking their release date might have backfired. They better nail their release.
I don't have faith in Bethesda, not anymore.
I don't trust the Three Bs.
Oh no, starfield launch will be an absolute dumpster fire. And I for one am all for it. The bethesda jank is 90% of the fun.
Starfield won't be actually done until like late 2024/early 2025. It's Bethesda. C'mon son
@Zoroasterisk It's actually Xbox this time. So yeah, that doesn't change anything 😂
@@MorfsProwerI feel that. Bioware hurts more for me due to them being more influential early with NWN for me and how they did ME dirty in the end 😢. Blizzard as well due to the handling of Overwatch etc.
It's the little things that get me, like the fact you can engage an npc in dialogue then have a stealthy character sneak up behind them and attack/pickpocket them. It just lets you do so much that other games wouldn't or would bug out if you somehow managed to try.
I love talking to animals too, but... beware the swamp frog.
Hit the frog with Sleep, as they have less than the 24HP threshold. Then hit them at advantage with a Melee build, and it's free. You're welcome. XD
The frog is a fine cheese battle though, definitely one of the trolls at Larian made that fight. Reminds me of alot of fights in their Divinity games.

One hit wonder, eh? Lol. Larian Studios made Divinity: Original Sin 2, a sick game! They are masters! 😮
As of patch 2, Larian has already addressed some of his issues with 4-player co-op. I love this studio
I have been following Larian for years, ever since D:OS 1. They are, in my opinion, the best RPG studio in the world right now. Their passion for gaming is admirable. Absolutely love them. If they keep this up, I'll be their lifelong fan and supporter.
Ever since DOS2 I loved them.
Their games are what I thought Final Fantasy would be like as a kid, FFIX with it's beautiful open world fantasy and FF tactics with it's awesome turn based combat set my future expectations far too high.
Its a little dated now but Divinity 2 Ego Draconis was an amazing experience ambitious AF.
I'm still in act 1 on a multi-player play through and my personal play through. Each has been VASTLY different in all aspects.
I can see myself playing this a few dozen times.
