When I played this early 70's, I would repeat that 10-15 second intro over & over. I couldn't believe how many directions he took that horn. This album received a lot of playing time.
An incredible performance! And along with the Waldron-Davis-Blackwell rhythm section from the legendary Five Spot sessions of 1961,this is the best section that Eric ever recorded with.
what a interpretation no one will forget of Monks composition. Eric Dolphy is just beginning some kind of free jazz and the traditional almost swing time like rhythm group makes his harmonic and melodic new phrases much more interesting

I'm obsessed with epistrophe it's so Monk. I'm afraid that one day I will end up walking in small circles humming this tune,
Quality stuff here.

His early death robbed us of his great talents.
Gah! Love his tone. Epistrophe is such a mischievous number.
Great way to describe this: mischievous. Yes. My favorite Monk tune. ❤

A different treatment of this from what I am used to hearing.
Typical Eric Dolphy playing.
Think it is bass clarinete !
I ‘d imagine how I feel to play this tune by soprano saxophone...
