The key is cleaning it after each use. Make it a habit to wipe down the counters and stove after you do the dishes everyday. When you let it get to this point and it’s old and hard, then it’s a pain.
It depends on the angle. Practice it on something you don't care about and you'll see there's a way to scrape something with a razor without scratching it.
My suggestion for what it's worth of the chemicals I would wipe off the easy off with a damp cloth a few times before you use the dawn. you do not create a chemical mixture. Trust me, I've been chemically poisoned. You don't want it happening to you, and Easy-Off is a very harsh chemical remover, and combining the two would make a very bad toxic cloud that you would be breathing
.....Thank you. I was going to mention That very same thing.... you need damp cleaning towels. Even Handy Wipes or whatever to take that off and you need hot water because it is a chemical. And if you want to throw the Handy Wipes away, then that's fine, but you can't use a dry paper towel because it will leave residue behind. And if you mix that with another cleaner, yes, you could create a toxic fume. And it's" not a pretty thing. " I am a former Professional Organizer/ Housekeeper...and I also used a few Non Toxic cleaners that are great. I have to wonder if she does research before she starts Cleaning , or if she really understands that when you're doing heavy duty cleaning like that , you have to know exactly what you're dealing with so as not to create toxic fumes.
Instead of Easy Off, I use Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser. Scrub with a Scotch Brite scouring pad (or similar) and the grime comes off. Wipe with Windex and surface looks like new.
Thank you so much for the tips. What about the grates? Mine don’t look black anymore. Some parts are lighter than the others. Any tips on cleaning the grates? Lord knows I need you in my life right now. ❤❤❤
Yeah....I never let my stovetop get that dirty. I always clean it after every use. This is my rule concerning everything in life. The sooner you deal with a problem, the easier and quicker it's gone. Otherwise, those minor problems become major issues. I used to work for a cleaning company back in the 70s when I was in college. Soaking is the key...not scrubbing. In this case, the stovetop is shaped like a "pan" for a reason. 😉 When it comes to cleaning almost anything, soaking is the magic wand, no matter what product you use; even baking soda.
Exactly! It’s so much easier to maintain it after each use. I’m from the Caribbean and cleaning the counters and stove is a part of washing the dishes in our households😂
@@DubKc I put water and vinegar in an empty spray bottle and just spray anywhere there's a mess. I also do this with laundry like stains on beds, stains on clothes, messes on a wall, cleaning the tub, kitchen stove etc.
I think I also scratched mine with a metal scraper so I bought some plastic scrapers from Amazon for doing this in hopes it doesn't scratch the black coating. I can't say if it will scratch or not yet, but hopefully not since it is plastic.
Because you did it wrong. You need to hold the razor as flat as possible as parallel to the surface as possible and then kind of push. If it's too much of an angle, it pokes and stabs which causes the chips.
Get St Moritz spray, put them in a trash bag, spray all over, close the bag, leave for an hour or more, then rinse under water and they will be like new.
....Usually. the top cover lifts up to clean under that. Just be careful with using certain products , .. do not use the Oven Cleaner. I've had that kind of stove ,and I would use a Vinegar / Very Hot Water / Dawn blue dish soap mixture,( you only need a few drops of the dish soap) ...using a dishrag, saturate the dish rag. Wring that out onto the surface, carefully. Let that sit a few minutes, then scrub with an SOS pad, or a Dobie Scrubber .. wipe clean with clean Hot Water. Be sure to wear heavy duty cleaning gloves.
I have the Easy Off but it’s too toxic.. I only use it to clean my oven.. the toothbrush method is a good hack.. then maybe I’ll cover while I wait in case I forget .. I have cats so I’m apprehensive with strong chemicals. But yes., good idea!
Sorry but it gets bad because you’re not the only one person using the stove and then trying to clean up afterwards becomes a huge difficult task. Don’t judge is what I’m saying…
Oh thanks great tips . I still have many questions how about the metal grates? if its greasy and also the unders of the burner things can get dirty too. thanks again.
My issue is getting the grates clean without etching the coating. I wipe them after each use but over the holidays sugar got “cooked” onto them and now they are slightly discolored brown. I know from previous gas stove cleaning fails that the wrong cleaner can strip the coating so… any suggestions??
Beautiful…i do know how to clean gas stove top but not confident about using Easy Off on enamel. What about grates? I use a spray on degreaser than let sit & run through dishwasher on hot hot water heavy duty cycle.
After you remove "most" of the easy off you add another cleaner? Nope. No. I'm going to be rinsing thoroughly, repeatedly, before using anything behind oven cleaner! #science
I just use a sink of diluted pin sol in hot water and a microfiber cloth. Works great! My grates are not seasoned and can be thrown in the dishwasher which is what I do instead of needing to soak them.
Thank God for this. Not being mean but I'm so tired of going to people's homes and seeing that the stove has damnear NEVER been cleaned.. 🤦 not in a mean way, just a sanitary way for them and their family. Also many don't know that you should lift your stove and clean under as well as pull the stove out and clean behind. Built up grease and dust behind can lead to fires. I've pulled out some stoves before and been SHOCKED 😳 at what's behind
Do you have am alternative to easy off? Even the "fume free" makes me chuck with all the windows open and fan on. With the after effects of a migraine.
Who’s going to tell her the burners usually come off too? Lol and to keep the oven cleaner from drying out, you cover it in cling wrap so the cleaner can do its thing

I am really surprised the razor did not "nick" the black enamel!
It's because you're doing it flattened like you're peeling something. You're not doing it from above and stabbing or poking it.
Yeah I was afraid it would scratch it.
It will scratch it, you have to be very very careful

We just cover the stove in foil and replace it when it gets too dirty. It’s good if you cook multiple times a day especially w a big family
i used to do that until it caught in fire once 🤦🏼♀️

I like it too but hate the smell.
Does the Dawn Powerwash work so you don’t have to use easy off? I hate the strong smell!
