- Daniel got his 4th printing version of Root and Root: The Riverfolk expansion early! Root is a heavily asymmetric area control board game that features woodland critters, such as birds, cats, and more! It boasts a cute art style by Kyle Ferrin, and is designed by Cole Wehrle, featuring the mechanics of action queue, hand management, and most importantly, variable player powers.
The 4th Printing mostly changes some of the print on the player boards to balance the game and has some quality of life changes. Unfortunately, we were not able to get our hands on Root: The Underworld Expansion, which adds 2 new player powers, since that is only available through kickstarter as of February 2020. It should be hitting retail soon, but exact dates aren't known.
Regardless, we're super glad that we now own our own copy of Root to have on our tabletops! This is a board game that's generally pretty hard to come by except through kickstarter and pre-orders.

Apparently leder games didn't want to waste that space on the punchout board and figured they might as well put tokens that might be used for future expansions or scenarios. In the meantime we just kinda hold onto them and I'm trying to think of a clever way to use them
Are the quality of the player mats and especially the game board improved in the 4th printing? I heard a lot of people saying that the board does not lay completely flat even after putting some weight on top to fix it. And I don't want to buy a neoprene mat for an additional $25-$30.
I personally haven't had a problem with that with my copy, the maps stay flat as is due to them being decently weighty. I can't really speak about earlier printings-even my friends'-because their maps got so much use that they probably ended up flattening out through use if they did have that problem.
So can you have two vagabond players in the same game with the expansion now?
Oh yeah, and they end up competing over a lot of their own resources lmao
