The Depth of Melchiors voice even comes through with Tibbett a real great Bass Baritone, all colleagues together, Branzell of course was immense, but the Flagstad Melchior pairing was perhaps the greatest in Wagnerian singing of all time. Wonderful bit of Historic film. Flagstad with Dame Maggie Teyte.
It’s no surprise that Joan Sutherland always swooned when talking about Flagstad. She said the voice just poured out of her, large but never harsh or shrill. And here, in the later chapter of her career, she still has surprisingly good agility.
Thank you for sharing this. So amazing to see the two Wagnerian Titans(Flagstad and Melchior) singing together on video record, I adore the two of them, especially when they sing together, they definitely brought out the beauty and power in Wagner operas whenever and wherever they performed. 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Unbelievable footage! Flagstad, Melchior, Branzell and Tibgett together! ("Suomen laulu" however, is not the finnish national anthem, but that matters little.)
Y'know, I'm not sure. The original footage of the quartet had audio that seemed a tad too high. It was in E-sharp minor ahaha instead of the typical E minor (and compared to the broadcast recording). I tried to adjust it a bit but didn't mess with the Dido clip.
@@trrill The Dido clip is about a semitone too high (so roughly 4-5% too fast), but it is great that you have posted these nonetheless! Somehow in better quality than in the Norwegian documentary that has been posted here previously.
@@Tenortalker thanks for getting back to me. it sounds like her and looks like her. there is no other film of her singing that i know of . this is wonderful . thanks again.

What a cast!!!
La Flagstad at her finest hour. What a treasure. Thanks!

In the last week I ave heard, from entirely different sources, two stories of Flagstad's generosity and kindness.
Karin Branzell and Lawrence Tibbett❤❤ Thank you so much for uploading this treasure!

WOWW! A Flagstad rarity

Thank you! And of course the details matter. I've corrected the wording. I was just excited to get this published :)
@@trrill Many thanks!
DIVINE SINGERS!!! 🤗🙌🙏🎶🕊️
Wow!!
Holy fuck :0
Exactly!
Is that Maggie Teyte singing Belinda in the Purcell excerpt?
Excellent posting. thanks. However Karin Branzell was Swedish, not Dutch.
Thank you! I've corrected. I was up too early to publish this and got in a rush.
Great. Do you know if these are played at the correct tapespeed?

is that maggie teyte with flagstad in dido and aeneas??
Sounds/looks like it to me! The first time I've seen her singing on video, actually...
Yes I think it is Maggie Teyte. She actually shared the role of Belinda with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf in this Mermaid production I believe.
@@getbizet824 absolutely right!! i love teyte and i have never seen any film of her singing.
