Her voice sounds unbelievably titanic in the second half. And to think it was an outdoor concert with 0 acoustics and no hard walls for the sound to reflect.
@@dramaticsoprano5168 Rasponi Lanfranco recounted she had auditioned for MET in St. Moritz. The hotel she had sung was heavily draped and walled, so Bodanzky and Gatti-Casazza had not been super impressed with her voice which could not demonstrate the size in such an environment. Interesting point =P
There exists even today a mystique and majesty of the voice of Flagstad that puts her in her own galaxy. She stands as the beacon of great Wagnerian sopranos. She preserved her voice until close to the time of her death ten years after this performance. The top notes above A evaporated, but the rest of the voice remained untouched by the years. She was THE Golden Glory of Wagnerian Opera, and she made some wonderful stereo recordings of songs of Norway and Sweden in 1960. She surelyh took per voice with her when she departeed this earth.
Before uploading this I had assumed the tape speed was correct recording because the recording is recent for Flagstad standards, but after manually checking today, it is about 3% faster than it should be. This makes it a little over a quarter-step too sharp, hopefully not too much of a difference, but in reality she would have sounded a little richer and deeper.
Everything is very good and amazing Flagstad and of course the great Wagner. One thing is not clear why we need a conductor who does not understand Wagner and does not hear the vocal capabilities of Flagstad?
@@elsalohengrin7777 I agree. Listening to their joint recordings, one gets the feeling that they had a special relationship, and this applies not only to Wagner's music. Once, I made a post on FB and commented as follows: "I managed to look beyond the edge of perfection, beyond which there is nothing."
The most beautiful and powerful soprano voice in all of history !
Flagstad was the perfect singer😮of😮her day. Never touched by anyone else!
There is so much metal in the voice and perfectly even from bottom to top. Equally incredible is just how effortless it sounds.
UNBELIEVABLE!! IMPOSSIBLY GREAT!!!
What voice!; Timeless!
Une des plus grandes du XXème siécle
A paragon of singing , a vocal titan.
