The level of skating back then was so sick!!! I know people are doing much more advanced stuff now but most kids dont realize how hard it is to learn airs and inverts on a vert ramp or in a pool. The slams are brutal. Wish we had all the backyard vert ramps around nowdays.
I agree. The problem is that what they were doing was ground breaking and lead to everything that is being done now, let alone the in the '80's. It is scary to think that skateboarding was in its infancy only 40 years ago. Tricks are great, but style rules. And to think I've been riding for 29 years now. Backyard ramps were/are cool--heck I want one, too--but think about how outlaw it was to scope a nearly empty pool, drain it, carve it, and vanish before the owners got home, and NOT trash those nice people's home. Exquisite! Sk8 and Destroy--but only in a good and positive way!
***** check out Richie Jackson if you haven't already. Surely having a carve down a street would be enough to remind you that Skateboarding is not all about tricks, it's about motion, flow and style. Works for me anyways. Peace out.
Yes brother, while I do yearn for the past , I’m happy with the fact that I was part of the scene from that era ,happy memories and I believe it installed a certain attitude that stays for life , once a skater always a skater,respect from ESSEX U.K
