Crazy how when I began UGS almost a year ago this was all very confusing! After sticking with the course it is nuts how these things make sense now! It is a battle to get through the first 10-12 months. After over that hump things make sense, learning new songs is so fun and guitar absolutely becomes as rewarding as you always wanted it to become! By the way I'm 51 years old! Thanks Sage!
I've watched a lot of videos on the Nashville Number System and this is hands down the easiest one for me to understand. Showing the key changes was an added bonus. Thank you!
9 minutes ago I was lost now I understand this system..Amazing!! I see why session players use it so much, makes everything easy. Thanks for this video! 😎
My man... I wish TH-cam and my SAGE was in my life about 20 years ago. But all things for a reason. Now to just sit my butt down and dig... ( which was the biggest part of the problem, I'll admit.) Thank you!!!
My oh my. Thank you so much for making it understandable for some of us. It's been a nightmare until today through this lesson. You are so generous 🎶🎧👏👏👏🙏
Hey Eric, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these nuggets of information are pure gold! Easy to digest and well presented. Thanks for sharing.
Very good knowledge in order to help you or I to learn an artist song by ear. What is that next chord I know the first chord is C so therefore the next chord must be one of the other 6 in the scale and then if my band, if I were in one, then I can call out its C then Am or its 1st and then the 6th chord! blah blah blah!
Great video! As always.😁 I'm sure you have played that Gibson in videos before..but I haven't seen it until today. It's a great sounding guitar!! Do you play it often? How does it rank next to your beloved strat?? Just wondering is all. Thanks! 😁✌
I’ve never understood scales or numbers and my worship team utilizes the numbers system This video felt like it was starting to click for me but I may have to rewatch
works the exact same way no matter what the key is since the intervallic relationship does not change. As far as minor keys/scales, the same rules apply except that the six will now be the tonal center.👍
Clicked in to say not a chance this is gonna stick with someone until you know the fretboard inside and out. If you don’t then it means nothing. I’m about halfway there but that’s just the start cause once you know all the notes then the puzzle that you been just playing with , the pieces start to make sense.
Thank you! I was able to watch the first two videos in your email. However, when I click on the link to the third one (The Power of Suspended Chords), which I think is th-cam.com/video/gr0G4INjY-4/w-d-xo.html, I get a black window that says Video unavailable This video is private. Is that the correct link? Thanks again.
Yes, feels very controversial, but in fact, in western music, 99% of the music is based around the major scale, and it’s derivatives, which are the modes, which, of course include alien/natural minor. It’s probably more like 99.9% but then that would be very controversial.😂
In Nashville, you call that the six minor. Classical theory will tell you that it’s a minor one. I’ve learned it both ways but you have to learn two sets of chords to do it the classical way. There are reasons for both. With classical music it makes sense, but with pop and country music, the Nashville way makes sense.
So for minor you got down three so C Maj is A Minor , minor to Major go up 3 notes Also if you understand this Formula Minor just starts on the on the 6 So minor is 6712345 But they call it 1 2 4567 same formula that’s why they just call minor songs Major n just use the Normal Nashville formula n it’s the same thang
That’s the standard musical numbering system which I learned in college. The Nashville number system is related but very different. If you watch the video it will explain.
Loved the lesson but frankly I'm finding the timer very distracting. Maybe either make it a bit transparent to get rid of it (we know the video is 10 minutes long anyways). Great lesson though!
This did not help, it seemed like the complicated explanatation instead of the easier one. Surely theres a quicker ,clearer, easier way of explaining this?
@@yourguitarsage ok , in fairness- I had to do a crash course in less than an hour for a session ,and learn something I had no clue on. So I was quickly going thru YT vids hoping there was one out there to make it cleqr, consise and straight to it for understanding! While you do have plenty other helpful videos , this was NOT one of them.

This just blew my mind, it’s like I can see the matrix of guitar now lol
thank you, my friend. Yes, I felt the same thing the first time I heard it. Really opened up my mind and I use it every day.
Nooo nahhh frfrr

Thank you so much, this is the way outher teachers should explain concepts simplified ,no extra confusing bs. 🤠

Well done, Eric! The way you taught this just clicked for me. So simple. Wasn't getting it until now. Thank you very much.
Glad it helped!
Eric, you are an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for your videos.
Love your stuff brother, after 25 plus yrs, it amazes me when someone teaches me a new trick, you peaked my interest on the number system ❤
Thanks, Aaron. The number system is a game-changer for me and how I think about music.
Wow, three years later and he’s still replying to comments. That’s awesome!
bro randomly found out his guitar was way out of tune and just humbly tuned his guitar using harmonics 🤣🤣
😜
Seen this before but for some reason today...BOOM. I get it now lol. Thanks
I thank you for making this video I have troubles with this
It's so lovely to hear you say "I'm here to help" ! Thank you 😊

Informative and useful as always and watching it a second time helps to clear things up a bit too

Thank you so very much for this tutorial it has helped me and my playing immencely, you've got my thumps up and also a new subscriber.... GOD BLESS.
Hey Erich. I just started UGS Pro. I'm in the intermediate section on theory. This video answered alot of confusion. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! I do teach the number system in full inside UGS pro. 👍
Nice job, straight forward explanation and demos! Thanks! Also, gorgeous guitar!
Excellent man! Appreciate the clear communication . Actually makes sense :)

Super helpful 🎸

What about minor scales and sharp/flat scales??

a whiteboard would be a useful teaching tool for these numbers.

Isn't this covered in the circle of fifths when transposing?
is the text free option still available ?
It is not, my friend. Thank you for asking. Sorry for the inconvenience. But you can go here: www.yourguitarsage.com/30
What about the minor chords ? When the root note is a minor chord ?
You put a “-“ behind the number. Like 6-

It will work now. 👍
does this apply to standard tuning only?
Nope, the number system is the number system. 👍
What about on minors?
6 minor would be your tonal center. All the chords stay the same.
1:40 that's a controversial statement
Scales are derivatives of modes in the context of western music

It looks like I unconsciously been kinda doing that for years without even knowing it had a name

I really wish that timer wasnt up there Im way too adhd to not stare at the time the whole time now

Anybody else wondering what the 0.01% of music not based on the major scale would sound like
I've just realized it's not number system in computer gimme back my 2minutes
Whatever does this even mean?
Huh
Why in key of F with this number system is the 4 not just a B why a Bflat ??
@Akinkuoye Vincent thatas not what asked. I wondered why not a straight forward B
No worries i will live without it
There’s 1 flat in the F major scale and that’s B flat
@@daveshephard1937 You will thrive without it the numbers system is a waste of time, just a chord sequence classification tool.
TTSTTTS
F-G-A/B-C-D-E/F A to B is half a step and E to F also to confine to the major scale formulae Some say WWHWWWH

I’ll be live this Thursday if you want me to explain further. 😊
