My dad used to make this for us when we were children when we were sick. I always thought it was something he made up himself, never known anyone else make it! He always added a cinnamon stick. You've made me smile!
Memories! Boiled orange peel tea Sunday mornings with a hefty Jamaican breakfast. It's been YEARS, I haven't drunk this. Need to restart drinking it again.
My mother, who was Swedish/Norwegian, used to make this for us kids when we were under the weather with a cold. Like Sonja's dad, she also added a cinnamon stick, but she also added cloves and honey. Think I will save some orange peels from the oranges on the counter, and make myself some orange peel tea later this week.
My mother used to make orange peel and ginger tea for me whenever I had a tummy ache, 60+ years ago. It worked. Now I make it for my adult son, who normally scorns such stuff. It still works, and he downs it without complaint. Thanks, Chris. Still hoping to get a print copy of your cookbook in the UK. No luck so far!
My son is a beekeeper in the Comox Valley, British Columbia. He takes his bees well up into the mountains so they can collect the fireweed pollen. He has wildflower and fireweed honey and carmelized wildflower honey. "Simply Divine Honey" OOOOOHHHHHH YUM

@@sunshinesimmons6106 Thank you so much. I do something similar. I cut up a 🍋 lemon, add ginger, garlic and a pinch of cayenne pepper. After I pour it in the cup, I add honey. I drink 🍊 Orange Peel tea by itself, but I never added the peel to my own concoction. I will now though.☺️

Very nice! I will absolutely try this. I’m curious about the ginger/orange combination. I also wonder if incorporating some black tea will overpower the orange flavor. We’ll find out!
When I first move to America I tried making orange tea. It smelled great but it tasted like water. I called my mom and she as per usual "yuh dotish? You are in America. Not in the yard picking orange. You have to wash them rel good first."
Do you use the peel after making the tea for something or do you trash it? Asking cause I want to try this but then I thought that maybe you could make orange powder for seasoning after making the tea... unless the process of making the tea takes all the flavor out.

This is a good old school recipe my mother used during winters. I still do it with all my citrus. It also makes your house smell marvelous.

Thanks Chris. This brought back WARM memories of time spent in A TRINIDADIAN HOUSEHOLD. Nothing was wasted.

The oil in the peel is the healthiest part of the orange. I drink this and zest the peel to get more of my Vitamin C🍊😁
good talk
Orange peel tea with ginger and honey is great when you have a cough. I dry lemon and lime peels for tea as well as freeze slices for iced tea.
lemon and lime you say eh.. I shall try

I love orange peel tea. I always dry my peels of my orange. I have a bag and I just put more to dry last night. I loving the enamel cup.
You just surgery air-dry in a bag right Stacey? I leave mine for a few days and they still don't dry.
I like the idea of using a bag to dry/store
Very nice herbal tea so soothing an it relax u.

Just made it with ginger.Boiling hott with condensed milk... Man show some tips on boiling coffee grounds.
That looks really soothing especially on a cold winter day! 🍊🫖☕
I think I'm going to make some this week with some ginger root, cloves and honey.
I’ll try this.
I save my ginger peels in the freezer, for the same purpose, but it’s nice to mix things up a bit.
I don't think I've ever peeled ginger yea
Yes organic is best for this🍊Think I'll add a cinnamon stick too😁

The ginger would help comfort a cold/cough/sore throat(!).
Try it with green or white tea 🍵
@@jenniferbeathea7906 Def green!
Orange peel and ginger tea, is good for stomach/digestion problems. Use slices of fresh ginger.
Hey. He is… love your enamel cup! Where did you get that? I’m in Ontario also!
got that from the Caribbean
When I first move to America I tried making orange tea. It smelled great but it tasted like water. I called my mom and she as per usual "yuh dotish? You are in America. Not in the yard picking orange. You have to wash them rel good first."
I still make this for myself when I’m feeling sick or my blood pressure is high
Very nice ❤
Awesome video man 😎
Must try. Ty ♥️
make it happen Jennifer
I love your enamel cup haven't seen that since I was a little girl
Good for blood sugar
Yummy thank you 🙏
you're welcome
I would love to try this however, I have one question: Must the orange peel be dried? I have fresh oranges only
Is the pith necessary? You can use a vegetable peeler to get peel only.
Do you use the peel after making the tea for something or do you trash it? Asking cause I want to try this but then I thought that maybe you could make orange powder for seasoning after making the tea... unless the process of making the tea takes all the flavor out.
A) How did an Island boy end up in the Artic North? B) How do you have such a nice Garden in said Artic North?
man the temps will soon hit the + Coincidently, in the summer it cna get as high as 42C with the heat/humidity index
Why do we need to dry them if anyway boiling it later?? So can we just boil fresh or soaked orange peels?
Chris do the orange peel have to dry? Can I use it fresh?
seems to have a more concentrated flavor when dried.
I does put it in ah kettle
wonder if cinnamon and clove could give orange peel a rel nice flavour additional ?
Yes but I prefer the ginger paired with orange peel
The funniest thing about Winter and forced heat is that it can turn oranges into orange-coloured rocks if you wait long enough. :-)
true
Can you use ginger instead of orange peels?🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧
most def
Why not both?! lol Really looking forward to trying this and will now probably try it with ginger. Thanks to you both for the ideas! 😅
Why do you have to dry the peel?
To give the tea a stronger flavour.
Washington DC
Good idea but it is better to add some black tea in it!
then thats not a classic Caribbean recipe.. I tried to stay traditional with this one. Like the idea though
It tastes good paired with green tea but that's not the original Caribbean recipe.
Ppl making that still? Herbal
