  • The Singapore GP is back after its Covid 19 hiatus, and both fans and the drivers are excited to get back on track. But Singapore throws its own challenges at the drivers which makes it F1's toughest race of the year. Luke Smith takes a look at what makes it so challenging, from temperature and humidity to the unique city layout, and how drivers prepare for the race every year.

Singaporean here! It's a cool idea and actually looking at the map, it is technically possible. T7 would then happen 1 street after Nicoll Highway on Beach Rd which would then probably be followed by a very mild chicane that joins back to the short straight by the museum (former courthouse) that approaches turn 10.
I think a big reason it's not been done is for safety, as Beach Road is far narrower than Nicoll Highway (where T7 currently is). T7 has good amount of runoff but Beach Road can't afford that as it's right next to a shopping mall and hotel lobby. Cool idea though!

Will probably be removed as The Float @ Marina Bay grandstand, where those corners are, is going to be rebuilt soon. Training this aggressively with a sauna will not do anything to help their bodies adapt to the humidity and heat in Singapore. The body cannot adapt like this that quickly. It might help them realize what they are going to put up with, and might prepare them mentally, but physically/physiologically, the body will not adapt to something that drastic or that quickly. It takes years to physiologically adapt to something like climate.

Street circuits like this are very, very boring. They might be challenging, but they are not engaging to watch. A circuit surrounded by fences and walls is not inspiring. The reason that Monaco continues is for historical reasons. It would never make it to the calendar if it was new. Singapore is completely unorganic. It was built to accommodate city limits and VIP viewing areas. I cannot stand circuits built almost entirely of barbed wire edges. It has zero character. It has zero cultural atmosphere. It reflects the cultureless, bland, corporate state of Singapore. Totally Souless.
