There is so much to learn from this video. You cover everything that is important: finger balance, nails, bursts, reflexive action. Besides you also present mind opening stuff such as finger sweeps and 3-finger attack. What can I say? This might be the best lesson I have seen on picado speed. Big OLE!!!

0:21 - rest stroke vs 0:49 free stroke
balance; equilibrium between fingers. Attack time and plucking must be consistent between fingers
3:00 - middle finger must be bent so action, volume, and tone are even
2:24 - nail length. Shorter is better
3:49 - rhythm of attack; synchronic movement. M must be ready to follow I and A M, like riding a bike or walking
    5:50 Exercise 1

I really appreciate how enjoyable this is for a "long" tutorial. Without "flash" (multiple cuts & angles), only an expert in playing AND communication can achieve this!

    • @chrisfairbanks

I put steel away and bought a Spanish guitar recently. This helps very much in "transferring" some techniques from the electric, too.

@@FelipeCoelhoGuitar Thanks for the reply. It's awesome what you're doing. When I was 15, I got a $1 ep mix CD with Oscar Lopez and Jesse Cook. I still listen to both unique style, but Jesse Cook is fingers then switches to his pick using pretty much metal up and down triplets, the way I learned when electric guitar was popular. It's amazing to discover things I couldn't see were happening before the internet. I hope you continue.

The main tip that we usually find to increase picado speed, and as you mentionned, to prepare the next finger to be ready to hit the string is to train with stacato. To cut the sound with the next finger is the best way to train the fingers to be ready to play the string and to keep them close to the strings.

Not your traditional Picado, more of a tremolo, which I confess on using for fast runs... And the "economy" picking is just like the one Matteo Mancuso uses... AWESOME! I am going to study this more, add it to all my fingerpicking drills, Obrigado Felipe! It helps a lot!

No tenía idea de que existiera ese tipo de picado haciendo un como barrido a la cuerda de arriba, muy interesante manera de economizar el movimiento. Se ve difícil pero vale la pena intentarlo!

I like practicing without using any open notes too much
That's so cool you got some insane speed bra
I use the same line from pacos song but I normally like playing it from the A or D string
For some reason I find every other way to play without using any open strings
It's a bad habit coz my index is always looking for a fret when I'm playing on the top, that's when I get put off sometimes and miss the timing

That's a very nice guitar you have there. Great summary!
To mention for others, I had many side noises when doing this on normal tension strings. So it might help to put on high tension strings on the guitar. The amplitudes are not as big as by using softer strings and the sound becomes cleaner. Also, the position of the right hand, closer to the bridge can improve clarity and speed. The vibration of the string is less.

This three-finger part is so interesting. I'm realizing (finally, in my 3rd year of studying flamenco, here in Spain) that I have some sort of anatomical weaknesses or mis-muscular-use when doing i-m-i-m- (or m-i-m-i-) that is, 2-finger picados that mean I end up with a really sore right elbow .... The 3-finger technique may be part of the answer. .... We'll see .....

Very interesting lesson. Only few guitarists were(are) able to play a-m-i pattern. The best was Aleksey Zimakov.

Hi! Thank u so much for this educational video... still i try hard to develope this tecqnich but it's so difficult! Maybe if u could break down the exercizes from 2 finger picado and then later 3 would be easier... if it is possible to make 2 different videos for each and please be more slow and truly truly focusing on a dayly routine wich can bring a person to that level... thank u... sorry for asking,! Humble learner...

So the guitar you are playing is a violao de sete cordes ? (sorry for lack of squiggle over the a in violao) (all those additional possibilities in the bass!). Are you perhaps Brazilian, not Portuguese? (your English is excellent. I agree with all the comments below about what a great and insightful video this is ... but in fact, at around 8 minutes where you say "I wish you could see from the camera angle how close my nail is to the string", indeed, as you continue, it might be nice to add just that one additional angle, the one from which we could see your hand from the side. Thanks very much, Felipe Coelho. Really helpful.

Hey Arpa!! Yes it is a sere cordas ! I am Brazilian. I might try to do something with two cameras in the near future. Thank you so much for your attentive feedback! I hope you like the rest of the content of the channel. My original purpose was a way of sharing music composition/performance, but I'm finding out spoken vídeos are seen more. So maybe people will see this and ask themselves if the guy (me) has anything musical to show. The channel contains lists (subsections) dedicated to orchestral compositions with guitar, traditional Brazilian Choro seven string arrangements, World Jazz Felipe Coelho Trio originals, and etc. Let me know what you think!

    • @FelipeCoelhoGuitar
      @FelipeCoelhoGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

No brother, sorry. But it should be easy to see on the screen plus áudio. Plus u get to see the fingering used.
I spent my life learning music from just recordings, ir vídeos. You really dont need the tabs. They are a crutch you would be better off without
