The guests from 2106 inadvertently caused the strange bacteria to infect humanity in the first place by sending the roots, which were encased in that strange green metal, through time. Edward Crow inadvertently caused the guests to mutate as they went through the portal by damaging the roots from harvesting the gold inside them, preventing them from actually solving the problem of the infection. This game would've been a stable time loop of the bleakest kind if Edward Crow hadn't been able to create the cure for the infection.
But now Edward Crow is dead, meaning there is no one capable enough to make a cure anymore, thus the bacteria will spread and finally cause whatever hapened in 2106 So unless someone manages to reverse engeneer the vials Edwad Crow made, which i highly doubt, all of this will be just a time loop
The scariest part of all this, in my opinion, is the crows we've seen eating the remains of the Guests. They're carriers of the disease now, and the struggle isn't over yet - it has only just begun.
It does make me wonder though what the initial infection was because there always has to be an initial incident that causes the start of the time loop. The original timeline always has to have a catalyst that causes them to go back in time and create the loop, and I’m wondering what that original catalyst was.
The writing for this game is something else. Brilliant how Edward isn’t malicious but just a man who let his greed blind him and it’s especially brilliant how he chose not to take the cure to atone for everything. Now that Elain knows about the bacteria, she’ll let the right people know and the right measures will be put in place.
More like the pressure of his father's legacy and the fact he already got himself into a position that he couldn't go back. Like he said he didn't want the money. Another reason he could have continued was to stop the people from the future from bringing the diseas into their time causing more harm. I mean if they couldn't stop it in 2106 how could they in the 1980's/90's
I think we can safely say that Douglas Pike did indeed take himself out, considering when you walk near his office door for the first time, you can hear the gunshot from outside the room. His office has only one door in or out and the door's unlocked meaning if he had been killed you would've run into the culprit when you entered. The window is also splattered, which tells us that it hasn't been broken either Also, the bacteria is not the only reason the future is ruined. In the northwest backrooms, as the game progresses, the guests will write more and more on the walls. At first they write 2106 over and over, but gradually they draw other things. A diagram of the seven roots, a crude drawing of earth, smokestacks, and lastly an oil jack. They also set the globe in the mansion on fire. After stating the correct passphrase to the fairy of the pond, she will ask you to promise to protect "our precious natural world"
@@jdamourep I'd say it's a decent cocktail for an "uninhabitable ruin" realistically it probably forced the remaining global powers to pool (no pun intended) their resources to build the portal. I gotta say, it's tragically ironic that they probably wasted the majority of their gold trying to escape the consequences of human greed just so that Edward Crow could perform the world's worst money laundering scheme
It's likely they came back from the future to try and stop environmental issues but Edward Crow and his father's destruction of the roots just made things even worse for them, environmental issues and now a bacteria that mutates people infecting the world.
I honestly think for those reasons the Guests coming back in time had nothing to do with stopping the bacteria. They were coming back in an attempt to fix the world and stop a climate crisis. The infection only came into existence due to the harvesting of the portal making it deeply unstable. It seems that Mining had started just before that first guests arrival date in 1988, so he was still able to speak and was cognizant enough to get the warning out. But is the mining continued on the others weren't as fortunate... Crows greed nearly caused a whole other, much, much worse apocalypse almost comes to pass over a century before the one in 2106. However their efforts were not entirely in vain, the infection caused by crows meddling was stopped before it could escape, and Elaine and the other survivors got the warning.

The build up to 2106 and the final reveal is one of my favourite things in a game recently. The way this game handles its story and world building is A+. Indie survival horror is booming.
Even though Mara and the others survived the infection, it's far from over for them and the world. Natalie and Mara are probably on bad terms now while Mara lives with the guilt that despite her efforts, Harrison died for nothing. Mankind and possibly all life will head down an extinction event 120 years in the future since throughout the game you sometimes see the crows eat the dead remains of the Guests, meaning they have become carriers of the infection. We don't know what reason the root was constructed for since it was created a long time ago considering Crow found it as a child and the Guests only came to the past to warn everyone of the upcoming calamity.
Wouldn't be ironic if the reason the guests travelled back in time is to warn them of the infection Edward Crow started? There are crows in the game eating guest's remains meaning they also carry the infection and possibly start an outbreak all over the world.
My theory is that the bacterial infection is a stable time loop. Right before the final boss, an infected Crow jumps into the Pool to travel to the future, arriving some time before 2106. He accidentally infects a nearby human, and realizes that he himself is the progenitor of the apocalyptic event, bringing the bacteria forward from 1988. Deciding to minimize any further damage, perhaps in the hope that he's wrong about personally kickstarting the apocalypse, he jumps back into the pool to return to 1988. The second trip causes him to undergo even further mutations, explaining why his mutations are final-boss tier (in addition to his advanced infection). But in the future, the damage is already done. We don't know the end-stage of the bacterial infection, and Elaine herself doesn't seem to be infectious in the two years after being attacked, but my guess is it's a slower version of the mutations caused by the Pool/faulty time travel. So without a cure, eventually the infected will be able to spread the bacteria uncontrollably. Presumably, whoever is first infected by Crow in the future has the disease progress far enough for that to happen, without any brilliant and obsessed biochemists taking notice. This leads to essentially a zombie apocalypse in 2106.
Spoilers: I really enjoyed this game & atmosphere however the ending left me with alot of unanswered questions. I really wanted to know more about the infection & what made it so uniquely dangerous. I also wanted to know more about what's happening in 2106 but that's ultimately left to our own speculation. I hope we get to see a continuation of this story
It's mentioned that the wounds don't close, the bacteria stops the body from healing it. You can see in Natalie Crow that it causes dizziness and nausea and with Mara, she mentions being extremely tired, likely due to her long term exposure to the infection and being in the hospital for years. I'd call that a pretty dangerous bacteria.
@@Yaeza31 That's a good point, if the bacteria shutdowns the body's ability to repair itself, then naturally the person is going to decay & suffer horribly much like the immune system ceasing to function.
That is a wild story. Like most of the time travel stories I have seen, it doesn't quite make sense, but it was still a fun ride. Theory: Is it possible the time travel itself created the bacteria that wiped out humanity in the future? They could not have known when they created the time machine that Crow would start destroying the machine on his end, so is it possible they created the bacteria by their actions? It's interesting that Crow decided to keep destroying the machine after he heard what they said. It's like he was trying to stop them from coming through. Maybe he understood that they were creating more of the bacteria by traveling through the portal and was trying to stop them. Or, more likely, they brought the bacteria with them from the future, when they traveled back. Though, considering that even nonliving objects are also twisted by the time travel, it is logical to assume bacteria would be as well. Anyway, it's a wild story that mostly makes sense. Thanks for summarizing the lore for us, Harry. Appreciate it.
A small detail I really liked in this game is during Mara's first interaction with Marv. He compliments the handgun she has, asking if it's a Browning or a Colt and she responds with "Uh...yeah. Sure." At first, I thought Mara gave him a boiler plate response so she could get back to her investigation. I later realized that someone with "firearms expert" on their badge would more than likely know what model of firearm they're using and that they could answer the question right away. This came to me after it was revealed who Mara really is. Seemingly random yet informative details like that is something I LOVE to witness in stories like this!
"Arthur had previously send a photo in to a paranormal magazine, but they claimed that what he saw wasn't real..." Nope. Immersion ruined. Most Paranormal publications will cling to the flimsiest proof that something's real.
I am late, but I had an alternative interpretation. I think that the guests were actually travelling back in time to warn about climate change. Protecting the natural world seems to be quite a pervasive thing in the game. That's the Forest Fairy's whole thing. Mara mentions saving water when turning off the faucet. When you go in the haunted manor, the globe is literally on fire. The guests also mention that the earth is uninhabitable-- a bacteria doesn't change landscapes into a wasteland. 1988 is also an important date, when the game takes place. This was when climate change started to be taken seriously due to the hole in the ozone layer. Travelling through the damaged Pool seems to mutate and change all life. Bacteria are life, so it stands to reason they be changed into a deadly disease too. That's just my theory though.
This game was so awesome! I beat it tonight going in blind for my first run. I recommend anyone to close this vid down and beat it blind before watching. I understand if you can’t!
I think it would not make sense for time travelers to go back in time with the same infection that ended the world because that would make them pretty dumb time travelers. There is always the possibility the infection itself is just a byproduct of bacteria that also mutated within the people who went through the malfunctioning pool. It's could be that it is yet to be revealed what actually ends the world in the future. However, it could also be likely this event is what causes the infection to come into existance, and therein causing the event that leads to the world ending in a closed loop but that would then create a chicken or the egg situation. Either way if there is much more significance it might be the hint has to do with a real life event that happens between the guests arriving and the actual time where the game takes place if the dev is doing a 4d ARG chess move.
I originally thought this was a GameCube game. I just finished it the creators did a really good job on this game. I haven’t played an enjoyable game in awhile.
Huh... Kinda surprised that I didn't noticed that when I first played it that at the end, all 5 survivors didn't take the cure. Since the Blue color of the Vials is overpowering the Green color of the cure, I totally didn't notice that all cure vials were in fact still untouched.
Listening to this it made me think about the snake eating its own tail. Maybe the reason why the infection is even around is because of the people from 2106!!! Like, they inadvertantly caused the destruction of the world because they went back in time. Like the whole terminator thing with John Conner. The disease wouldn't be a thing if they didn't go through the portal, yet they wouldn't have known that because so few know about it (the survivors of crow country) and probably died with it. Anyway just a crazy thought. I also didn't realize that they didn't take the cure. Maybe they are trying to make the right decision of giving it to doctors to reproduce or to take it for themselves to live.
@GamingHarry, as a Lore-driven Gamer myself, might I suggest giving "Eastward" a go, it's a fun and retro themed pixel adventure that is LORE RICH and has some DARK undertones to it. Also; there aren't any proper videos delving into its lore rich and unique atmosphere.
This game was great though I wish they did more with such an interesting plot. Theres a lot implying that the reasons future humans came back was to prevent destruction of the environment and nature but because of Edward and his fathers tampering of the roots, a mutated bacterial infection and possibly an outbreak due to crows consuming guest remains means the future is even more grim, though who knows maybe a global infection stops the environmental issues.
10:05 I didn't know there was a boss in this room. When I was there, I input a code I found earlier that tells you which pads to step on in order, saw black smoke emitting from the oven, and found it gone. I thought I was supposed to do that lmao
I wondered why they bothered to give you a diagram earlier, I guess it's for killing the creature in the oven. But there's an achievement for killing all four *optional* boss encounters, so would that mean you didn't get that achievement doing it your way?
@@Metalguy40 Just found out the achievement happens regardless of how you kill it. Also it doesn't effect your rank apart from using less heals to fight the thing yourself.
Why did the first Guest attack Elaine when she was 15? Why did none of them also not attack the lawyer where Tolman says they don't want to harm us, but they're trying to kill you the entire game?
18:48 Wait, so 15 yold Elaine after finding out her parents were getting nowhere with the lawsuit decided to say "fuck it" and: 1. Forge an Investigator ID 2. Steal Crow's missing persons files 3. Dye her hair and go to the park herself All in the name of getting some answers before she croaks from a bacterial infection?! Or am I getting this completely wrong and Elaine grew up a bit with her bacterial infection never healing and THEN decided to do all that. Honestly, a 15 yold doing all this is kinda wild lol...
I did not pick up on the implication that the danger to the world the guest told crow of was the bacteria. That makes sense considering they came back to 1988 specifically.
If this becomes a comic book, I'd lose my whole fkn gourd if it wasn't contractually boosted by Dark Horse Comics (responsible for dark action, classic horror, & occult & horror style comics set in urban, fantasy & science fictional worlds), by Slave Labor Graphics (like Dark Horse but it's more Indy friendly, & comics like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac & Gloomcookie are visually unique & deserve the Indy label), or by both!
May you talk about the new black ops storyline since gulf war is coming out it shows woods in a wheel chair meaning black ops 2 is canon to some extent
I get that the guests come from the year 2106 after going into those green vats but why are they trying to actively kill you instead of communicate like the game story alludes to?
Talking to my wife about it. We came to the conclusions that they mentally are no longer all there and thus don't know their strength anymore. They can't talk so the next best thing in panic, pain and urgency is to use physical communication. In such a situation all deformed they might hurt some people like they did to Mara and Arthur. And Mara being so young when it happened must have been afraid after and so she brought a gun to shoot them down out of fear of being hurt again.
0:06 the game released on my birthday?! i'd like to point out that Harrison, at one point, jokes about Arthur being Elaine's boyfriend. if there really will be a sequel, i hope they actually become a couple. basically, i ship them (i love me good love stories).
Since the Crows own the land, why wasn’t it legal for them to mine and sell the gold. The US government couldn’t take the land from them, it’s already been bought. I’m not educated on this, does anyone know why they had to go through such lengths. Or why not look for private buyers around the world, anonymous bidding. Highest buyer gets the gold in bulk?
Not necessarily. IDK if this is a usual thing across other countries, but in the US there's a thing called mineral rights. It means that although you may own the land above and can build a home on it, or a business, or a park, you don't have the right to start a mine and dig for gold. This right isn't usually sold with the land unless you specifically seek it out, so someone else may own the right to any minerals found beneath a plot, and in the case of this game, the US government owns those rights.
@@spongegar7588right. I also feel bad for Edward Crow. He didn't want to but the pressure from his father and whatever actions his dad and he took was enough to push him to continue anyway. Debt maybe? Too deep into the illegal mining and lying about it

I LOVE This Retro Style🤩
I got this game on my series x when it came out. I still havent started it but im going to soon. Ill have to come back to this video!
Heck yeah this game rules!
I remember asking for a video on this game a few weeks ago! Excited to watch this
Huh... Kinda surprised that I didn't noticed that when I first played it that at the end, all 5 survivors didn't take the cure. Since the Blue color of the Vials is overpowering the Green color of the cure, I totally didn't notice that all cure vials were in fact still untouched.
Ya know this game was really good .. I throughly enjoyed it
very hyped u did this. predicted the last 2 uploads you’ve done.
This game is so charming, i love it
This looks pretty fun. I like the style and visually looks pretty unique. Not bad at all! I'd play this.
Saw my son played this, don’t really get the lore
I need to watch this to understand
4:40) i shouldn't be finding this so funny, but the dialog underneath is hilarious to me.
This is the exact kind of story you'd see in a Japanese horror game. I love it.
This was great!
You should give Signals a go next!
Please story of the dark occult
I was hoping to be able to play multiple character's in this. There are backstories for all of them.
What an interesting game!! Loved the lore and gameplay
Great story! And I love this game visual design!
@@Keanotix I wouldn't know because I played the switch version
@@Metalguy40 Just found out the achievement happens regardless of how you kill it. Also it doesn't effect your rank apart from using less heals to fight the thing yourself.
@@Keanotix OH well that's good to know! Gives me better reason to replay it lol
At 11:00 it reminds me of something like a snake eater
MORNING PLATE READYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
The game story was pretty cool and intriguing maybe sequel would further elaborate on it
My Theary is that the bactiria is part of a time loop caused by the Quests traveling back in time to crow contery.
@9:37 guns.....ammo...AND a slideshow?! Must be someone's birthday.
Why did the first Guest attack Elaine when she was 15? Why did none of them also not attack the lawyer where Tolman says they don't want to harm us, but they're trying to kill you the entire game?
Love Ur vids
18:48
Wait, so 15 yold Elaine after finding out her parents were getting nowhere with the lawsuit decided to say "fuck it" and:
1. Forge an Investigator ID
2. Steal Crow's missing persons files
3. Dye her hair and go to the park herself
All in the name of getting some answers before she croaks from a bacterial infection?!
So Crow Country is survival horror combined with cosmic horror?!
Yes
Very focused on both
19:09 where did get a 9mm anyway?
Pretty good game, i didn’t use hacks
Hey Harry, couple of years ago I played game Mad Max, in my oppinion it had a great story, check it out and you can maybe do a story explanation.
Go tits up is still one of my favorite antiquated phrases
13:00 Enough to buy a house.
Great video
Fear and Hunger series when?
2spooky4harry
If this becomes a comic book, I'd lose my whole fkn gourd if it wasn't contractually boosted by Dark Horse Comics (responsible for dark action, classic horror, & occult & horror style comics set in urban, fantasy & science fictional worlds), by Slave Labor Graphics (like Dark Horse but it's more Indy friendly, & comics like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac & Gloomcookie are visually unique & deserve the Indy label), or by both!
copper thieves strike again
very interesting
May you talk about the new black ops storyline since gulf war is coming out it shows woods in a wheel chair meaning black ops 2 is canon to some extent
finally!'n another!!!!
And Mara being so young when it happened must have been afraid after and so she brought a gun to shoot them down out of fear of being hurt again.
hello gamingharry a bright Indy Gem and a good story
6:20 did you get jumpsacred?
This game came out on my birthday
dude!... where is hellblade 1 and 2 story explained video?. i need them so much!

@@GamingHarryYT Omg!... sorry my eyes failed me I guess😅...thx a lot, love your channel!💖
Hey harry, I urge you to check out fear and hunger. I sincerely think you would enjoy it!
can you explain story out of tell me why plz
Ummm Harry, where tf is the Creepy Intro that I love so much 😡🤭
0:06 the game released on my birthday?!
i'd like to point out that Harrison, at one point, jokes about Arthur being Elaine's boyfriend. if there really will be a sequel, i hope they actually become a couple.
basically, i ship them (i love me good love stories).
Crow country, this is war
Crow country
This is a scary version of animal crossing
do story about hektor
Since the Crows own the land, why wasn’t it legal for them to mine and sell the gold. The US government couldn’t take the land from them, it’s already been bought. I’m not educated on this, does anyone know why they had to go through such lengths.
Or why not look for private buyers around the world, anonymous bidding. Highest buyer gets the gold in bulk?
Upon finishing the video I now realize that Edward should’ve never mind the gold in the first place, I feel so bad for those humans
@@Eoryukinda wack in reality
@@spongegar7588right. I also feel bad for Edward Crow. He didn't want to but the pressure from his father and whatever actions his dad and he took was enough to push him to continue anyway. Debt maybe? Too deep into the illegal mining and lying about it
This is why I like indie horror games. They can do certain things Triple A can't. Never imagine EA to do this.
❤❤❤
spoilers
Sad the detective dies in this game.
Very. I wish there was a way to save him!
Yes
chilla games realsed a new game i think
Ok
Does anybody else love all the fake sounding names?
If they go back to prevent something, then there's no reason in the future to go back to prevent it.
I they succeed, something else will happen that will have them going back again, an so on. In this case was climate disaster, prevented, but then the bacteria infection took place.
In the intro you said Mara is a teenager. She says she's 25. Are we having a DrDisrespect moment or was that an accidental spoiler? Only time will tell in this THEATER OF THE DAAAAMNED
She lied. She was using a disguise, fake name and all. She's actually 17 close to 18. Crazy stuff huh?! I wonder how she is such a crack shot with the guns
Hello neighbor 3
Ooo
To think we might never have a game if she just had enough money to pay her bill
The doctors couldn't solve the infection, so she would have went to Crow to tell him about her dying either way. The infection is from the future and the only person who solved it was Crow
@@cuddlecakes7153surprisingly so! He's pretty smart. It only took him 2 years while falling to bits due to the disease!!!
You'd think the guys name would be Crowe
But no literally Crow
Crow country is sexbomb
The second gives you the at the end of the game, I realized how badly written and bad this game is.
You are telling me the one guy that came out said a couple things and the other dood wrote it down and he came to the conclusion of TIME TRAVEL?
That is a huge logic jump
hey we dont know each other but i hope ur doing well and I wanna say that GOD still loves u and wants u to be with him all u must do is trust in Jesus and repent of ur sins. GOD loves u more than u can imagine. ☺️☺️☺️❤😊❤😊😊❤😊❤
Story is WAY too convoluted.
How so? It seems pretty straight forward if you actually read the majority of the notes and journals. Heck I was able to pretty much figure it out on my first run. I just missed the note in the end. The only two things that are still a mystery is how the disease/infection began and what the survivors plan on doing with the vials and information they now have.
