    Good call on cutting an inch off the ends Austin. I remember back in the 80s and early 90s we didn't even run rear bumpers on our Toyotas. They were sometimes even sold new that way.

    Lovin every video you come out with. You should get a t100 for a future project, because they have next to nothing for aftermarket parts so you could make it 100% custom

    Nice work as always. The outer corners cut be pie cut on top then bent in a few degrees to contour towards the body. Instead of a straight line all the way across the top. Recovery points? Flush mounted led reverse lights? LPlate lights? Your hitch turned out great, very stout. A flat piece bridging the bottom sides would be great spot for chains and double as a step into the bed.

    Dude as much metal fab as you do you need to invest in a plasma cutter, if you start adding up all the cutoff wheels and grinding wheels you go through it would pay for one. I know this because I've been there and done it. Cheaper in the long run. BTY when welding galvanized or anything with zinc use resperator and drink hole milk I got zinc poisoning once went to ER doc said milk fat will absorb zinc only way to get rid of it. keep up the good work 👍

  • @douglasthompson2740
    @douglasthompson2740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like to add LED lights for backing up in dark areas. Your design would be perfect for two at the ends of your bumper built right in so they wouldn't get damaged and then one other in the middle for directly behind. Sure makes dark nights in unlit areas much easier to back up in and gives a good work light if you wire it for switch on as well as reverse on.

  • @spaight711
    @spaight711 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks good.
    The go-around on that priming issue that came to mind for me was to drill out those plates as mounting points for the license plate lights and then you’d have access from both sides to spray into the void.

    • @spaight711
      @spaight711 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you should add some kind of drainage holes to the bottom of those areas, too.
      Water will inevitably find a way inside and you don’t want it to sit.

  • @cliffordumscheid785
    @cliffordumscheid785 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Like the bumper...As to the license plate bracket, consider a 1969 Camaro bracket. Flips down for access to fuel fill. You could mount it upside down so it flips up instead.

    • @offroadriverfishing

  • @Thadschnack
    @Thadschnack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s a cool design and seems plenty strong for a Tacoma towing capacity. If I were to change anything, it would be the flat bar mounts. Like you added the piece of flat bar for mounting on the bottom of the frame. You should have ran that piece all the way the the bumper essentially creating a large piece of angle. Cuz it seems like if there is a weak spot it’s between the frame mounting points and where the square tubing starts for the receiver brace.

    • @austinniemela
      @austinniemela  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the hitch setup will be stronger than anything the truck can tow!!

    • @Thadschnack
      @Thadschnack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@austinniemela agreed. I just looked at my super duty tow package and it’s really similar in just flat plate attaching it to the frame. Side to side strength really can’t amount to much. It’s all about pulling and stopping I suppose

    As a suggestion I think a piece of 3/4 pipe integrated at the top end tips of your bumper would have eased that sharp corner that your knee always finds and still looked the same. Could also be done in the press brake but would be more work. Good lines on the bumper. Good to have a receiver mount in both the front and back. Then you can mount a winch on square tubing and move it from the front to the rear when needed (you don't always want to go further into a place that already has you stuck!). Handy for vise mounts etc etc. as well.
