I love how this scene demonstrates just how terrifyingly competent T.rex really are as predators, even at night. I also love it took 2 T.rex instead of 1 to take down something as big as themselves, despite the lack of physical body defenses. This is quite possibly the best depiction of T.rex hunting in media *EVER* .Thank you, Prehistoric Planet.
It makes sense that the two would work together to take the Edmontosaurus down as it's easier and much safer. I have no doubt a lone Tyrannosaur could kill an Edmonoto, but it's far riskier and these are animals that think and can calculate risks.
I love how the first bite, despite being on the back of the neck, doesn’t just instantly paralyze the Edmontosaurus. While yes, T-Rex had a ridiculously strong bite, I think people often forget that it was hunting very large and powerful herbivores.
Also, most predators with powerful piercing/gripping bites don’t use this to outright kill prey, but to latch onto prey so they can overpower it (which Tyrannosaurus was very much specialized for with its robust build as an adult).
Right? It is easy to think of rex as being OP when you're only comparing it to extant animals, people really forget how equally OP the herbivores of the time were.
@@NathanielTavington Another issue is that the predatory adaptations of non-tyrannosaurid large theropods are pretty much always ignored or misrepresented in paleomedia (and even in academia to a limited extent, in large part due to citing outdated research or poor understanding of extant analogues), resulting in tyrannosaurids appearing comparatively “superior” and OP in comparison.

In many ways this is like the anti-jurassic park T.Rex. It's very withdrawn and doesn't make its presence known unless it wants you to. It's intelligent and has adaptations that counter its massive weight. A really cool T.Rex to see on screen. Like a Mark Witton picture brought to life.

Just when I thought T. Rex could not be more terrifying as a predator. It is chilling how something so big can be so stealthy especially at night. It could be right next to you and you wouldn't know it until it's too late.
And given how elephants can be shockingly stealthy if they want to be despite having zero specific adaptations for stealth, I’m pretty sure just about every large theropod would have been a lot stealthier than people imagine.
This is one of the best depictions of T.rex hunting in Paleo-docs. It really exhibits how deadly T.rex is. The part when David said T.rex could be quite stealthy despite its size,reminds me of “Extinction Event”,a spin-off novel of Primeval. In which the spin-off novel also described T.rex to be stealthy hunter despite its size. I know some people compare this segment with JP/JW T.rex. However, I would say JP/JW T.rex,especially Rexy,are still capable of making a surprise attack/ambush. In the first JP movie,she made a surprise attack at a flock of Gallimimus and successfully killed a Gallimimus. In the climax,she sneaked up a raptor and killed it. Rexy also made at least 2 surprise attacks in Fallen Kingdom. One of them was killing a Carnotaurus,the other was killing Eli Mills. However,the segment in Prehistoric Planet felt more natural and less “Because the plot requires T.rex to ambush her victim.” I also love the fact that they made Edmontosaurus being capable of resisting T.rex for a short period of time. This really shows “Why T.rex would need to evolve a ridiculously powerful biteforce,”because their preys are tough as hell.
This is probably the best T.rex hunt ever featured in a documentary and one of the best scenes featuring Tyrannosaurus in general. The concept, the music, the narration, the CGI, everything is pretty much perfect. It also reminds me of Phil Tippett's Prehistoric Beast, where a Rex stalks and kills a Monoclonius at night.

Ever since I realized how massive Edmontosaurus was, I really questioned how T-rex was able to hunt them at all. Glad my question was answered by Prehistoric Planet of all places. Edit: Due to some replies with decent points, I think the problem stems from me seeing T-rex vs Edmontosaurus as similar to a T-rex vs T-rex, even though they're very different from each other.
It's barely bigger than a rex, why do you think it wouldn't have been able to hunt them when predators are known to kill animals many times their size?
Trex was build too hunt the most dangerous and armoured dinosaurs ever, sure it most likely fail it's hunts but nearly ever predator fails more than it has success
X rex Was a edmontosaurus with a 16-18 ton weight, that's why he questioned how it would hunt them. This was actually a average sized edmontosaurus herd, with each individual being 8-9 tons.
OMG ITS BEAUTIFUL. Everything from the accurate designs, the hunt setup, atmosphere and camera angles used, and the attack itself. The Trex doesnt just one-shot the Edmonto and its a bit of a struggle, with the Rexes trying to body its prey and use its mass to push the Edmonto around. Everything about this is simply amazing
I loved this whole episode, I've enjoyed the series up until this point too don't get me wrong, but including season 1 this was the first episode to give me that true Walking With Dinosaurs feeling, I absolutely loved it l, the Baby Pterosaurs Vs the Crocs, Beelzebufo trying his hardest to get a mate and dealing with annoying sauropods, the Pachycephalosaurus battle and finally T-Rex hunting in all its glory, fantastic episode.
Well,in several occasions,the JP/JW T.rex did proved to be fully capable of making a surprise attack though,but the hunting scene in this particular episode is still phenomenal.

@@theinternetsightseer2935 The JP T-rex's stealthiness is completely inconsistent. Sometimes, if that makes the scene scarier, you can hear its footsteps approaching from a great distance. Sometimes, if that's scarier, it can sneak up on people completely out of the blue.
I love this. T.Rex was big, but it was just as capable of being stealthy as anything else. Sure, they weren't fast, but then again, they didn't need to be.
They were honestly fastest than the fastest human, even if not the fastest animal on the planet, so even if you wanted to, a human could not outrun a T-rex and you would be pretty much dead
Love how they show that one bite wasn’t able to kill the Edmonto. People forget dinosaurs (like most animals) have flesh and muscle, it would need more than just one bite to take down an animal especially of that size
And you have to keep in mind that that was the MOST POWERFUL BITE any animal ever had, and the edmonto almost tank it like it was nothing, unfortunately (not for our T.rex) they were two so they used their weight and their strong bite to kill it, because it gets to be just one and that battle could have gone either way.
And large hadrosaurs are dangerous in their own way. They may not have obvious weaponry like trikes and ankies. But their size and speed made them far from defenseless, and a rex could get injured in a struggle.
@@Th0ughtf0rce The show implied that very well by mentioning how they needed to be careful and strategic to make a kill on an edmontosaurus! In all likelihood a single edmontosaurus would die in any fight against a T. rex, but they can cause some serious damage before they go down. Add the herd in and it could be disastrous. Luckily they were smart and knew how to get around all these problems. A true clever girl moment.
Exactly, and Adult T-Rex wouldn't have perfectly conical teeth either, so it would be even more difficult for them to get through the muscles in one bite.
I love how the edmontosaurus really tried to defend itself when the tyrannosaurs managed to grab it, I was slightly disappointed because I wanted to see at least edmontosaurus manage to hurt one of the rexes enough to break this stereotype of defenseless hadrosaurids, but overall this scene is really cool, 10/10

As someone who grew up practicaly BREATHING dinosaur-related media, this is absolute perfection. Prehistoric Planet 1 & 2 have been EVERYTHING I've wanted in a Dino Documentary, and this scene, this AMAZING scene, is the icing on the cake. Seeing my all-time favorite dinosaur depicted & portrayed as a stealthy, intelligent & brutal ambush hunter rather than a roaring, lumbering monster is so mind-blowing for me. I was hoping I'd get to see the tyrant lizard king hunt in season 2 and when it happened it did NOT disappoint. It just fascinates me how something THAT BIG can move so quietly and only make its presence known when it WANTS you to know somethings there, absolutely phenomenal.
The only recent media that’s done the king of dinosaurs any justice @2:34 can’t imagine the fear you’d have if you saw that staring you down from a distance. Really frightening something that big can be so quiet

As a kid, T-Rex was always my favorite dinosaur. Now, it still is. While I prefer the retro looks of dinosaurs, I have to admit that Prehistoric Planet is amazing! The Rexes hunting is one of my favorite bits of dino media in recent years

I love how the rexes systematically pick a target and one proceeds to corral the target towards the ambusher. I got chills from watching this the first time

Among all dinosaur documentaries that I've watched, I think Prehistoric Planet has one of the best depictions of Tyrannosaurus Rex - both visually and behaviorally.
@@resul3447 African Bush Elephants can get about as heavy as a T. rex, yet they seem to be pretty quiet when walking due to their foot pads that act as both shock absorbers and sound dampeners.
@@jacobcox4565 I mean, trexes don't make a sound when they walk at normal speed, if they were, it would be impossible for them to hunt, but when they walk fast you would definitely feel their steps.
It shows that trex are not like some overpowered hyped dino. The trex that managed to finally catch an edmontosaurus, was like "i caught this one quick, come and help me now !"
It would be nice to see hadrosaurs and other underestimated prehistoric animals that could have defend themselves, at least properly, or actually successfully defend themselves against larger predators. Or just predators in general.
Hadrosaurs have always been my favorite group of dinosaurs and I think the series has done a great job so far of showing they weren't just boring, walking buffets for tyrannosaurs but arguably the most successful group of non-avian dinosaurs packed with survival skills that are overlooked just because it isn't obvious armor. Even this Edmontosaurus didn't go down at first from a bite from the fully-grown jaws of the strongest land predator the planet has ever known.
Most Anklylosaur/Triceratops vs T-Rex fights are depicted to be gravely dangerous for the T-Rex, and if it gets the kill it almost always pay a heavy price.
I like how the Edmontosaurus fights back when it’s caught in the jaws and batters the rex head with its hooves and feet instead of just dying instantly and without a fight.
i love that they made them hunt something huge because of how much we forget about edmontosaurus size compared to rex. also good to see an hadrosaur FINALLY at least trying to fight back and to protect himself instead of just running

@@tonybusch8771 You misspelled T. rex. The "T" should have a period because it's an abbreviation of "Tyrannosaurus." The "rex" part should not be capitalized because it's a species name. OP also misspelled it, but only because they forgot to uncapitalize "rex."
Elephants weigh up to 6 tons and they can be pretty quiet, T.Rex has half as many legs while being on average 4 tons heavier than an elephant at 8-10 metric tons so it needed that padding under the feet even more than the elephants do, both for health and stealth reasons.
I wanna watch this so bad dude… it looks so frickin good. I remember when I was a kid and watch walking with dinosaurs and that blew my mind and this makes me feel like that again. 10/10 LEGENDARY
In Jurassic Park, Rexy's footstep would alert anything miles away, though I like the special effects to display their immense intimidation whenever she's nearby, but this right here takes the gold for accuracy.
This was maybe the coolest scene in the entire series. I love how they have portrayed the T-rex in this series. Powerful but not a monster or irrational. Very calculated predator
Glad to see accurate depiction of hunt and hadrosaur not being a one bite easy kill and indeed required two T rex to hunt one down. Actual animals that hunted by stealth and strategy instead of mindless roaring monsters.
I think the first one could’ve taken it down solo, but it definitely would’ve taken a much longer time. With two it was over much quicker, but still not instantaneous. I have a lot more respect for Edmontosaurus now! Still though, I would’ve loved to see if this strategy could work against Triceratops.
@@artloverivy the Edmonto was outrunning the first rex already tho, as Attenborough mentioned Edmonto was far faster than Rex so actually landing the bite would be very difficult That and the Edmonto would be able to fight back against Rex to a degree It could have solo'd it maybe but it would have been alot more difficult
@@mrbooje6502 I definitely think the Rex would eventually take down the Edmontosaurus in a solo fight, but that’s a good point about how it was outrunning the first one before the second showed up. Without the second Rex the first one wouldn’t have had the chance to get close enough.
this was a well executed plan, nice job tyrannosaurs. i also like how a single bite isn't a 1 shot kill, but a 5-6 ton bite is 100% gonna break any bones where the bite is, and considering these guys hunted giant edmontosaurs but (from another clip by this same dude) a rex lost to 2 quetzals (which i love) is kinda weird but still cool.
A few things, there were two Rexes giving them a number's advantage against any one prey item they caught AND had the element of surprise. In the other clip with the dead Alamosaurus the Rex was only trying to secure it's kill as trying to fight the Quetz could result in loosing an eye, especially devasting for a Rex. It was also the Azhdarchids that outnumbered the Rex and outmaneuvered it, also those small pecks would hurt a lot.
I didn’t know they have the largest eyes of any dinosaurs. Plus the way they work together to bring down the edmontosaurus are similar to a pride of lions taking down a Cape buffalo.
Im glad they didn't over exaggerate the Rex's bite force as you can see it didn't instantly kill or cripple the edmontosaurus even when it got bitten on the neck .
Predators usually don't put all their strength into their bite, even when killing prey, because biting as hard as they can could hurt the jaw or break teeth.
Honestly I’ve always pictured a Rex as a night time hunter. Given their size and speed- the day time would make them more visible to alerting prey. Night time would be the best option as the prey will be sleeping resting or standing.

Now that's what I call hunting. They stay quiet and stalk their prey before attacking. Unlike the t-rex from jurassic park, their loud and they just run for the prey, In my opinion, but their both really cool.
Well, in Jurassic Park (1993), Rexy actually initiated two successful ambushes: against the Gallimimus, and the dromaeosaurs in the Visitor Center. Completely silent until it was time to spring, and honestly, who cares. We’re comparing a movie blockbuster to the most up-to-date dinosaur documentary. Why don’t we compare it to Walking With Dinosaurs (oops, wait no one’s ready for that conversation) or that god-awful Monsters Resurrected?

I love that they use alligator bellows (or something similar) for T. rex her and not any obnoxious roar. Also, the Edmontosaurus getting a kick in on one of the Rexes before it’s finished was pretty badass. Overall, I really appreciate Prehistoric Planet’s commitment to depicting them as animals.

In fact when it comes to the most successful creatures to have ever lived dinosaurs in general are the gold standard if you ask me because no other species was as successful in so many ways and for so long as well. They were the biggest, the strongest, the fiercest you name it dinosaurs were it!
This scene is impressive, this really is something very new for viewers. It is terrifying to see no less than a couple of 2 Tyrannosaurus rex hunting at night and being very stealthy as if they were not creatures with a height of 4 meters, 13 meters long and 8 tons in weight, that ambush was perfect, the poor Edomntosaurus had no chance against those 2 super predatory moles, but even so he managed to defend himself seconds before he died, apparently he managed to hit a T-rex and made it move back a bit, although the other one immediately bit a vital point, while the T-rex that was hit, just ignore what happened and step on the prey with its paw just in case so it can't escape, it's brutal, this scene moved me more than many other scenes of the T-rex in movies or series, it's also good that they have shown the Edmontosaurus as a large herbivorous animal that a single T-rex could not easily take down, it is a very strong dinosaur compared to a Tyrannosaurus despite not having spikes or horns. I want to see episode 5 of the docu-series in which a T-rex is going to be bothered by 2 Quetzalcoatlus, although they are not a match for him, they may bother him to the point that someone gets hurt and there is a fight fast (but it is very likely that no one will attack directly, they will just be mutely intimidated).
YES. *THIS.* Just . . . everything about this. When Season 2 was announced, we all knew that we were inevitably going to get a traditional theropod hunting scene, and it would undoubtedly be T.rex. I cannot praise the makers enough for subverting virtually every aspect of the stereotypical dinosaur hunt - a solitary T.rex stalks close to an unwary dinosaur in broad daylight, then bursts from cover with a deafening roar, running down its target before viciously killing it in a shower of blood and gore and capping it off with a triumphant roar of declaration. That's entirely fictional. Real predators, like lions or wolves, don't do that. No predator does. Making any noise just makes prey harder to hunt or draws unwanted attention from other predators or scavengers. Here, we have the complete opposite of that. The T.rex is hunting in a pair and is planning, communicating with one another with low, barely audible growls and infrasonic calls. True, one of them does the classic "burst from cover with a roar", but it's deliberate and not as theatrical as other documentaries might portray it; it's not trying to scare prey for the sake of being scary, it's a part of the plan that they made. The other T.rex attacks their target and its partner comes to help finish it off. And when all is said and done, there's no final roar, no display of dominance, nothing. It's not killing for the sake of sating their thirst for violence and blood, it's killing for survival. That's it. All I can say is that I hope we get a Season 3 and that future documentaries take notes from Prehistoric Planet.

@@sweetypredator1067 many birds and even crocs use this level of strategy, and recent studies suggest theropods were on mammal/bird levels of intellect even when using reptile scaling rules anyway. Infact, moniter lizards participate in tool use.
The idea of T. rex having quite footsteps makes it scarier in my opinion. Imagine camping in a forest, there's no rain, no loud thunder, and there's very faint animal and nature noises from the distance. You would only know that its maw was five steps away from you the moment you turned around.
something I appreciate about this is how quiet the actual killing of the Edmontosaurus was. usually media likes to make the act of a carnivorous dinosaur killing an herbivorous dinosaur super dramatic with the creatures screaming bloody murder at each other. here, there's just a bit of grunting and hissing, expressing that it's a struggle without making a big deal out of it. it's not played up for theatrics, its not a huge dramatic scene. in reality, dinosaur hunting was probably a lot quieter than media portrays it. no doubt there were some cases where things got loud but I don't think it happened as often as we were led to believe
I finally got to see these tyrannosaurs hunt in action it was very interesting to see them hunt and actually be predators hunting very fun and interesting
While I’m a bit disappointed that Edmontosaurus was used as T. Rex fodder again; this is probably the best T. Rex hunt in media, plus the Edmontosaurus was still able to put up something of a fight against 2 Rexes.
I agree that it kinda sucks that the edmonto just kinda got bodied but then again the t rexes used strategy and had the numbers advantage, probably would go differently in a 1 on 1
Could've been worse, they could show the Rexes running into the field full of Edmontosauruses and Triceratops in broad daylight and have them easily kill an Edmontosaurus.
For some reason I'd never considered the Trex's overpowered eyesight and smell as being night hunting adaptations but it makes a lot of sense. Especially since science keeps insisting they couldn't sprint.

It makes sense that the two would work together to take the Edmontosaurus down as it's easier and much safer. I have no doubt a lone Tyrannosaur could kill an Edmonoto, but it's far riskier and these are animals that think and can calculate risks.

I love how the first bite, despite being on the back of the neck, doesn’t just instantly paralyze the Edmontosaurus. While yes, T-Rex had a ridiculously strong bite, I think people often forget that it was hunting very large and powerful herbivores.
Also, most predators with powerful piercing/gripping bites don’t use this to outright kill prey, but to latch onto prey so they can overpower it (which Tyrannosaurus was very much specialized for with its robust build as an adult).

Another issue is that the predatory adaptations of non-tyrannosaurid large theropods are pretty much always ignored or misrepresented in paleomedia (and even in academia to a limited extent, in large part due to citing outdated research or poor understanding of extant analogues), resulting in tyrannosaurids appearing comparatively “superior” and OP in comparison.

This is one of the best depictions of T.rex hunting in Paleo-docs. It really exhibits how deadly T.rex is.
The part when David said T.rex could be quite stealthy despite its size,reminds me of “Extinction Event”,a spin-off novel of Primeval. In which the spin-off novel also described T.rex to be stealthy hunter despite its size.
I know some people compare this segment with JP/JW T.rex. However, I would say JP/JW T.rex,especially Rexy,are still capable of making a surprise attack/ambush. In the first JP movie,she made a surprise attack at a flock of Gallimimus and successfully killed a Gallimimus. In the climax,she sneaked up a raptor and killed it.
Rexy also made at least 2 surprise attacks in Fallen Kingdom. One of them was killing a Carnotaurus,the other was killing Eli Mills.
However,the segment in Prehistoric Planet felt more natural and less “Because the plot requires T.rex to ambush her victim.”
I also love the fact that they made Edmontosaurus being capable of resisting T.rex for a short period of time. This really shows “Why T.rex would need to evolve a ridiculously powerful biteforce,”because their preys are tough as hell.
Not to mention bulk compared to its relatives

T-Rexes habitat was called "Hell Creek" for a reason.
This is probably the best T.rex hunt ever featured in a documentary and one of the best scenes featuring Tyrannosaurus in general. The concept, the music, the narration, the CGI, everything is pretty much perfect. It also reminds me of Phil Tippett's Prehistoric Beast, where a Rex stalks and kills a Monoclonius at night.
Immediately thought of that too. This is almost like an homage.

X rex Was a edmontosaurus with a 16-18 ton weight, that's why he questioned how it would hunt them. This was actually a average sized edmontosaurus herd, with each individual being 8-9 tons.

OMG ITS BEAUTIFUL. Everything from the accurate designs, the hunt setup, atmosphere and camera angles used, and the attack itself. The Trex doesnt just one-shot the Edmonto and its a bit of a struggle, with the Rexes trying to body its prey and use its mass to push the Edmonto around. Everything about this is simply amazing

Probably the best depiction of a T-Rex hunt, with them being ambush hunters, and at night, which is absolutely Terrifying to even think about.
I loved this whole episode, I've enjoyed the series up until this point too don't get me wrong, but including season 1 this was the first episode to give me that true Walking With Dinosaurs feeling, I absolutely loved it l, the Baby Pterosaurs Vs the Crocs, Beelzebufo trying his hardest to get a mate and dealing with annoying sauropods, the Pachycephalosaurus battle and finally T-Rex hunting in all its glory, fantastic episode.

They were honestly fastest than the fastest human, even if not the fastest animal on the planet, so even if you wanted to, a human could not outrun a T-rex and you would be pretty much dead
Love how they show that one bite wasn’t able to kill the Edmonto. People forget dinosaurs (like most animals) have flesh and muscle, it would need more than just one bite to take down an animal especially of that size
And you have to keep in mind that that was the MOST POWERFUL BITE any animal ever had, and the edmonto almost tank it like it was nothing, unfortunately (not for our T.rex) they were two so they used their weight and their strong bite to kill it, because it gets to be just one and that battle could have gone either way.
And large hadrosaurs are dangerous in their own way. They may not have obvious weaponry like trikes and ankies. But their size and speed made them far from defenseless, and a rex could get injured in a struggle.

In all likelihood a single edmontosaurus would die in any fight against a T. rex, but they can cause some serious damage before they go down. Add the herd in and it could be disastrous.
Luckily they were smart and knew how to get around all these problems. A true clever girl moment.

I love how the edmontosaurus really tried to defend itself when the tyrannosaurs managed to grab it, I was slightly disappointed because I wanted to see at least edmontosaurus manage to hurt one of the rexes enough to break this stereotype of defenseless hadrosaurids, but overall this scene is really cool, 10/10

As someone who grew up practicaly BREATHING dinosaur-related media, this is absolute perfection.
Prehistoric Planet 1 & 2 have been EVERYTHING I've wanted in a Dino Documentary, and this scene, this AMAZING scene, is the icing on the cake. Seeing my all-time favorite dinosaur depicted & portrayed as a stealthy, intelligent & brutal ambush hunter rather than a roaring, lumbering monster is so mind-blowing for me. I was hoping I'd get to see the tyrant lizard king hunt in season 2 and when it happened it did NOT disappoint. It just fascinates me how something THAT BIG can move so quietly and only make its presence known when it WANTS you to know somethings there, absolutely phenomenal.

As a kid, T-Rex was always my favorite dinosaur. Now, it still is. While I prefer the retro looks of dinosaurs, I have to admit that Prehistoric Planet is amazing! The Rexes hunting is one of my favorite bits of dino media in recent years

Hadrosaurs have always been my favorite group of dinosaurs and I think the series has done a great job so far of showing they weren't just boring, walking buffets for tyrannosaurs but arguably the most successful group of non-avian dinosaurs packed with survival skills that are overlooked just because it isn't obvious armor. Even this Edmontosaurus didn't go down at first from a bite from the fully-grown jaws of the strongest land predator the planet has ever known.
Most Anklylosaur/Triceratops vs T-Rex fights are depicted to be gravely dangerous for the T-Rex, and if it gets the kill it almost always pay a heavy price.

You know that things get serious, when a 6 tons animal activates the "tippy toes" mode.
Elephants weigh up to 6 tons and they can be pretty quiet, T.Rex has half as many legs while being on average 4 tons heavier than an elephant at 8-10 metric tons so it needed that padding under the feet even more than the elephants do, both for health and stealth reasons.

In Jurassic Park, Rexy's footstep would alert anything miles away, though I like the special effects to display their immense intimidation whenever she's nearby, but this right here takes the gold for accuracy.
This was maybe the coolest scene in the entire series. I love how they have portrayed the T-rex in this series. Powerful but not a monster or irrational. Very calculated predator
Glad to see accurate depiction of hunt and hadrosaur not being a one bite easy kill and indeed required two T rex to hunt one down. Actual animals that hunted by stealth and strategy instead of mindless roaring monsters.
I think the first one could’ve taken it down solo, but it definitely would’ve taken a much longer time. With two it was over much quicker, but still not instantaneous. I have a lot more respect for Edmontosaurus now! Still though, I would’ve loved to see if this strategy could work against Triceratops.

@@mrbooje6502 I definitely think the Rex would eventually take down the Edmontosaurus in a solo fight, but that’s a good point about how it was outrunning the first one before the second showed up. Without the second Rex the first one wouldn’t have had the chance to get close enough.
this was a well executed plan, nice job tyrannosaurs.
i also like how a single bite isn't a 1 shot kill, but a 5-6 ton bite is 100% gonna break any bones where the bite is, and considering these guys hunted giant edmontosaurs but (from another clip by this same dude) a rex lost to 2 quetzals (which i love) is kinda weird but still cool.
A few things, there were two Rexes giving them a number's advantage against any one prey item they caught AND had the element of surprise. In the other clip with the dead Alamosaurus the Rex was only trying to secure it's kill as trying to fight the Quetz could result in loosing an eye, especially devasting for a Rex. It was also the Azhdarchids that outnumbered the Rex and outmaneuvered it, also those small pecks would hurt a lot.

Im glad they didn't over exaggerate the Rex's bite force as you can see it didn't instantly kill or cripple the edmontosaurus even when it got bitten on the neck .
Predators usually don't put all their strength into their bite, even when killing prey, because biting as hard as they can could hurt the jaw or break teeth.
Honestly I’ve always pictured a Rex as a night time hunter. Given their size and speed- the day time would make them more visible to alerting prey. Night time would be the best option as the prey will be sleeping resting or standing.
Lions are also night hunters too.

Also, the Edmontosaurus getting a kick in on one of the Rexes before it’s finished was pretty badass.
Overall, I really appreciate Prehistoric Planet’s commitment to depicting them as animals.

In fact when it comes to the most successful creatures to have ever lived dinosaurs in general are the gold standard if you ask me because no other species was as successful in so many ways and for so long as well. They were the biggest, the strongest, the fiercest you name it dinosaurs were it!

This scene is impressive, this really is something very new for viewers. It is terrifying to see no less than a couple of 2 Tyrannosaurus rex hunting at night and being very stealthy as if they were not creatures with a height of 4 meters, 13 meters long and 8 tons in weight, that ambush was perfect, the poor Edomntosaurus had no chance against those 2 super predatory moles, but even so he managed to defend himself seconds before he died, apparently he managed to hit a T-rex and made it move back a bit, although the other one immediately bit a vital point, while the T-rex that was hit, just ignore what happened and step on the prey with its paw just in case so it can't escape, it's brutal, this scene moved me more than many other scenes of the T-rex in movies or series, it's also good that they have shown the Edmontosaurus as a large herbivorous animal that a single T-rex could not easily take down, it is a very strong dinosaur compared to a Tyrannosaurus despite not having spikes or horns. I want to see episode 5 of the docu-series in which a T-rex is going to be bothered by 2 Quetzalcoatlus, although they are not a match for him, they may bother him to the point that someone gets hurt and there is a fight fast (but it is very likely that no one will attack directly, they will just be mutely intimidated).

When Season 2 was announced, we all knew that we were inevitably going to get a traditional theropod hunting scene, and it would undoubtedly be T.rex.
I cannot praise the makers enough for subverting virtually every aspect of the stereotypical dinosaur hunt - a solitary T.rex stalks close to an unwary dinosaur in broad daylight, then bursts from cover with a deafening roar, running down its target before viciously killing it in a shower of blood and gore and capping it off with a triumphant roar of declaration. That's entirely fictional. Real predators, like lions or wolves, don't do that. No predator does. Making any noise just makes prey harder to hunt or draws unwanted attention from other predators or scavengers.
Here, we have the complete opposite of that. The T.rex is hunting in a pair and is planning, communicating with one another with low, barely audible growls and infrasonic calls. True, one of them does the classic "burst from cover with a roar", but it's deliberate and not as theatrical as other documentaries might portray it; it's not trying to scare prey for the sake of being scary, it's a part of the plan that they made. The other T.rex attacks their target and its partner comes to help finish it off. And when all is said and done, there's no final roar, no display of dominance, nothing. It's not killing for the sake of sating their thirst for violence and blood, it's killing for survival. That's it.
All I can say is that I hope we get a Season 3 and that future documentaries take notes from Prehistoric Planet.

@Sharkastic never tell this but if you want...you will never see such sophisticate pack hunting in Archosaur group .Fossils evidence even show most theropoda was extremly aggressive too each others like bird of prey.

@@sweetypredator1067 many birds and even crocs use this level of strategy, and recent studies suggest theropods were on mammal/bird levels of intellect even when using reptile scaling rules anyway. Infact, moniter lizards participate in tool use.

The idea of T. rex having quite footsteps makes it scarier in my opinion. Imagine camping in a forest, there's no rain, no loud thunder, and there's very faint animal and nature noises from the distance. You would only know that its maw was five steps away from you the moment you turned around.
Finally some action for the Tyrannosaurus.
something I appreciate about this is how quiet the actual killing of the Edmontosaurus was. usually media likes to make the act of a carnivorous dinosaur killing an herbivorous dinosaur super dramatic with the creatures screaming bloody murder at each other. here, there's just a bit of grunting and hissing, expressing that it's a struggle without making a big deal out of it. it's not played up for theatrics, its not a huge dramatic scene. in reality, dinosaur hunting was probably a lot quieter than media portrays it. no doubt there were some cases where things got loud but I don't think it happened as often as we were led to believe
I finally got to see these tyrannosaurs hunt in action it was very interesting to see them hunt and actually be predators hunting very fun and interesting
Knowing that the Tyrannosaurus rex could easily sneak up on you makes it much more frightening! You wouldn’t know it was there until it’s too late…

While I’m a bit disappointed that Edmontosaurus was used as T. Rex fodder again; this is probably the best T. Rex hunt in media, plus the Edmontosaurus was still able to put up something of a fight against 2 Rexes.
I agree that it kinda sucks that the edmonto just kinda got bodied but then again the t rexes used strategy and had the numbers advantage, probably would go differently in a 1 on 1
Could've been worse, they could show the Rexes running into the field full of Edmontosauruses and Triceratops in broad daylight and have them easily kill an Edmontosaurus.
At least in this scenario the outcome actually makes sense.

For some reason I'd never considered the Trex's overpowered eyesight and smell as being night hunting adaptations but it makes a lot of sense. Especially since science keeps insisting they couldn't sprint.
