Glad you guys are calling out Absolute WW. This series have been getting good review when in reality, the story is not that compelling and the art is amateurish.

I never get why people like Kelly Thompsons work. The dialogue is always cringe and she’s admitted to just getting high and coming up with random crap in her stories.
That explains why they treat WW's arm being cut off only as a minor inconvenience. If a writer wants to cripple a character, they should take notes from Game of Thrones on how to cripple one of the characters in the story. She needs to actually give it weight, and use it to explore the character if people are supposed to care.
Kelly Thompson has not written one good comic ever. She is in a conglomerate of bad writers that keep getting work for some reason. Leah Williams, Mariko Tamaki, Stephanie Phillips, Tom King, Christoper Cantwell, Jody Houser

I really like how it gives Wonder Woman a more fantasy feel, and while the art isn't Dan Mora quality, I really don't think it's as bad as they are mentioning, but everyone has their own opinion.
Personally, art where the face is longer than. Most of the head looks horrible. They all have awkwardly long noses. I mostly like this series but you're not at all wrong about the dialogue and lack of satisfying struggle! Since I'm pretty new to western comics it's nice to have an obvious & easy entry point + i like the way WW is written & her relationship with Steve has potential. At this point I'm just glad the gimpy lil robo-arm is gone 💀
I describe Kelly Thompsons writting and dialog as almost good enough to be on the Halmark Channel, but still not quite coherent enough and too cheesey.
Having her born in hell and raised by Circe hasn’t changed the character at all. Why make an alternate universe that isn’t any different. She has the most generic tattoos. But I guess the arm thing is good if you have a stump fetish.
I have zero issues from this book. Not a fan of Thompson, but this is leagues better than anything else she has written, and I would argue her writing is improving. I get the sense this is the first title she has been put on that actually interests her. Sherman's art is also excellent. Now you can make the argument that he isn't the right artist for the book, but it's objectively good art. His paneling and storytelling ability are both top notch. It's like Daniel Warren Johnson, the guy draws the ugliest people imaginable, but he makes up for it in other aspects. This is honestly the only comic book channel that I've seen crap on it at all. You seem to have this weird thing where if you don't like a book, you just assume that no one likes it. All three issues have gone back to second print. Go to league of geeks, you can read hordes of reviews from paying customers and the majority are overwhelmingly positive. It's like me and the Ultimates. I think it's one of the worst series of all time, but guess what? I'm in the minority and the proof is in the pudding. Most that are reading it rave about it, and I have to just suck it up.
I’m surprised to see people not like the art. I guess it’s not that detailed, but I really like it, and especially love the paneling. This is probably my favorite Absolute book so far. I love fantasy and this is leaning into that a lot. I’m also about 100% sure that “arms are important” line is supposed to be a joke. Some of the validation stuff is definitely a bit over the top for sure though
I took it as it was. Just the ever so wonderful editing team didn't point out the proper way to put it in the bubble. Therefore killing what would have been a good sarcastic moment and a funny one. But we can't have anyone being sarcastic.
I'm also surprised with how much they're hating on this. It's probably just because they dislike Kelly Thompson in general. Personally I think this is DCs best book at the moment.
@ I also look at it this way. Always talking about the bad makes everyone ignore the good. Only a matter of time before people just walk away from this type of content too. There are some amazing books out there. No one knows about them because no one talks about them.
She was a fat comedy relief white lady in the golden and silver age. She kinda got sidelined sometime after the bronze age or copper age because she was one of many pun-named jokey sidekick characters that didn't fit with a more serious universe. But she got brought back as a black lady sometime in the last 15 years or so. I don't recall when.
Dammit. They could get so much money from me if they would do a good DC-comic-universe. I would buy SUPERMAN, BATMAN, WONDER WOMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE and much more books. But.... they dont want my money...
Just gonna throw out there, this was way better than the last issue of both absolute Superman and Batman. The art is not good. That’s established and accepted but it’s been the most consistent of the absolute books so far easily.
It’s strange, I enjoyed #4 the best so far. Maybe it’s because I’m new to reading DC regularly for the first time since Knightfall. I’m not jaded enough yet 😂 Compared to the Ultimate universe, especially The Ultimates, I’m finding the concentrated stories refreshing. I’m waiting for these Absolute books to falter for me as The Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Black Panther did but each week so far I look forward to reading the next issue. Yes, art is a bit wanting and reminds me of the new GI Joe in ways, but still better than Momoko mailed-in interiors…
Ok, I actually liked the the first two issues. The art is definitely an acquired taste and ultimately doesn't work for Absolute Wonder Woman long-term. The story quickly messed the bed by issue 3
I haven't been wild about Absolute Wonder Woman, but this was far and away the best issue so far. Not sure what you guys are going on about here. Really not sure how you can dislike the art but like comics drawn by Jacen Burrows. They have very similar styles.
Wonder Woman made of clay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wonder Woman as daughter of Zeus. Etta Candy was by origin a redhead and obese, she 1st appeared in Sensation Comics issue 2, what came out in February of 1942. The Silver Age made her skinny and blond, what stayed after the Crisis. But now she is black and bi (something that even DC seem 2 forget, as she have dated Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah), she does keep switching between fat and skinny (what isn't healthly for her, XD). Wonder Woman's eyes look so weird in some pages. Like she is being under spell or something.
The art should definitely be better. It should look beautiful, not like it was drawn by a feminist. It has become the book that is so bad it's hilarious.
I bought all of Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman and makes me glad I didn’t invest in any of this crap. For real tho the art itself totally turned me off
Arms are good to have 😂 Well no shit Sherlock. Horrendous I knew once I read issue one I was dropping this after the first arc. The dialogue was bad then and I remember thinking while issue #2 I’m feeling nothing from this and only reading because it’s new. As for the art, WW is fugly, she’s supposed to be this beautiful strong Amazon woman but in this she’s an ugly, her face looks the same in nearly every panel and looks emotionless. I wasn’t a fan from the start and Sherman for me doesn’t fit this book. His work on Dark Patterns although not great certainly fits a gritty Batman story than it does AWW This is coming off my pull after #5. I can’t help but feel they’ve dropped the ball big time with this. I see the reviews it’s getting and I can only think that’s because people don’t want to shit on a female written book. Absolute Superman and Batman is leagues above this
It blows my mind that you guys shit on this but think Absolute Batman is good. This has more consistent writing than Batman and the art is no worse than the shit that’s going on over there.
So what do you give this comic out of 5 stars? It’s a hodgepodge of ideas that meander and go no where. The writer is struggling with making it cohesive in my opinion. From the sacrifice of the arm, to the prosthetic arm doing nothing for her, to the eye of newt spell gathering and a giant demonic creature set to pause it’s just a slog to get through when there isn’t any solid set up and pay off. Wonder Woman is a superhero action comic and so far we’ve got little to none of that. Kelly might want to back off the pot smoking and take in an energy drink instead for her writing sessions.
@ Probably a 3.5 or a 4. Personally, I don’t see how it could be a hodgepodge as I think the story beats have been pretty consistent over the last 4 issues. It’s not as if they’re jumping from thing to thing, changing the tone and story of the book with every issue. Maybe some ideas could use some expansion (ie the prosthetic v magical arm) but it’s nothing I would really call egregious. As for the action, we’ve seen Diana fighting demons in every issue so I don’t really see how they could be lacking.
@@CoreyAdolfi I can respect that. True, she’s fighting demons but you don’t really get anything visceral or impactful. Set up and pay offs are weak. My comment on the superhero action is based on the artist inability to depict dynamic figures in action. But honestly the material they’re working with isn’t inspiring. The ideas are there, it’s just the execution is falling flat for me and disjointed. Pause to do an arm sacrifice, pause for spell of deafness, pause Tetracide…is her primary skill magick and secondary skill melee or vice versa? And can we make it look cool? I don’t know just doesn’t work for me.
Disagree about Shernan's art - hes great. And hard working. Not a typical superhero artist but if the writing was better I'd have no issues with sherman doing this book. The absolute books are supposed to be different. The book is garbage though. I used to enjoy Thompson's work on the likes of Jessica Jones and Hawkeye- but she's not written a good comic in years: black cloak, the cull, birds of prey, absolute wonder woman are all crap. Scarlett was boring, never finished it. God knows who is buying these books

Most people here have not tried to read it bc they claim Kelly is DEI hire or the art or it's wonder woman it wont sell as much as Batman.
@@VaughnEsper don't be too surprised. They routinely hate anything with a female creator that isn't from 30+ years ago.
Wasn’t Etta Candy a white woman up until the New 52?
That's your issue with the book??
@@EgbutaJustin the dude simply asked a question….
I already dropped Absolute Superman and after issue 4 of Wonder Woman… Bye Felicia
I haven't been wild about Absolute Wonder Woman, but this was far and away the best issue so far. Not sure what you guys are going on about here.
Really not sure how you can dislike the art but like comics drawn by Jacen Burrows. They have very similar styles.
I hope they don't cancel it and instead replace the creative team with someone better.
I would like to take a crack at it; the set up has a lot of unrealized potential.
I could read this, but I'm close to the Brood saga in UXM. Or I could pick up the OG batman comics again.
Knightfall Batman
@realitycheck908 I'm sure I'll get around to it. Trying to read oldest to newest... I'll stop when it gets bad though.
original Brook saga in like the 160s???
@@danalvin1184 I'm on Uncanny X-Men 157 (And Dazzler 12), and somewhere in the first twelve Batman books (Detective comics.)
Don't know why my reply vanished. I'm up to Uncanny 157 and Dazzler issue 12.
The art should definitely be better. It should look beautiful, not like it was drawn by a feminist. It has become the book that is so bad it's hilarious.
I bought all of Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman and makes me glad I didn’t invest in any of this crap. For real tho the art itself totally turned me off
Nahh. It is arguably the best series so it makes you look like the kind of person you are. You know what i mean.
@@EgbutaJustin we don’t. Use your words like a big boy.

100% wrong, Absolute Wonder Woman has been great, and Kelly Thompson is IMO a fantastic writer.
No she's not. I read your books and they are so boring and devoid of excitment.
@@EvandroACruzLike your life and future right??
No, she's not.
Arms are good to have 😂
Well no shit Sherlock. Horrendous
I knew once I read issue one I was dropping this after the first arc.
His work on Dark Patterns although not great certainly fits a gritty Batman story than it does AWW
This is coming off my pull after #5. I can’t help but feel they’ve dropped the ball big time with this. I see the reviews it’s getting and I can only think that’s because people don’t want to shit on a female written book.
Absolute Superman and Batman is leagues above this
I liked the first issue, 2-3 were a drag and issue 4 sucked
It blows my mind that you guys shit on this but think Absolute Batman is good. This has more consistent writing than Batman and the art is no worse than the shit that’s going on over there.
I haven't reviewed a single issue of Absolute Big Dumb Batman yet. Because I'm not reading it. You must be thinking of someone else.
Glad I never picked this up lol what pile of 💩
It started out well, great concepts. But sigh... here we are, crapping the bed. Disappointing.
Maybe you guys stroked out reading another book because it sure doesn’t sound like the same one I read.
Don't think the art is bad it needs different colors and dark thicker lines
Disagree about Shernan's art - hes great. And hard working. Not a typical superhero artist but if the writing was better I'd have no issues with sherman doing this book. The absolute books are supposed to be different.
The book is garbage though.
I used to enjoy Thompson's work on the likes of Jessica Jones and Hawkeye- but she's not written a good comic in years: black cloak, the cull, birds of prey, absolute wonder woman are all crap. Scarlett was boring, never finished it.
God knows who is buying these books
People that actually enjoy it. It is not top 2 best selling comic of the week for nothing.
@@EgbutaJustin Being a "top 2 best selling comic of the week" isn't a flex. It's a reflection of how bad the rest of the options were.
@@EgbutaJustinI can’t imagine how empty headed someone would need to be to enjoy a book that has nothing going for it
It’s derivative crap
But beyond that there’s no real stakes, no build up, no good dialogue, no tension, no build up - it’s shallow comics. As bland as writing gets
Tell me one thing good about the writing on that book?
