What a useful video! I freestyled this project a couple years ago, but after this video I can go back and refine it. I also had no idea how useful a multi-tool could be on that project and others. Thanks!
This is exactly what I need to do at my mother's. Thank you so much for all of your tutorials! I know now that what I thought was going to be an expensive, half a** job done by an overpriced local can be done by myself. Your videos are very informative, and I now have the confidence to take on this project as well as go out and buy my first power tool! Thanks again, and if you care to know how it goes, I shall post before and after pics.
I just put down 3/4 pressure treated wood over existing. Cut it in half to fit in, then screwed it down and put 'liquid nails' glue in middle to joint both pieces.
Wow , the cabinet looks just like mine :) . You're a very good DIYer . I've been wanting to do this but was afraid. This video is what I'm waiting for. Thanks a lot.
I always wondered what the point of even having a cabinet floor board was since they always get soaked. Probably just better to have bare concrete if you have a slab floor. I mean hell it seems in every single house I've ever seen they just get moldy and rotted out.
Video was extremely helpful in givng me an idea of what whole process will entail. Not trying attempt this project myself but I know now I don't have to replace the entire cabinet. Thanks for taking time to share.
dvbdvbdvb ok, will do. I will cut it in half. Too bad they don't make that center board removable. They know we will more than likely have to do this at some point. Thank you very much for your help, I truly appreciate it!
We are buying a condo that has minor mold on the drywall and cabinet wood under kitchen sink may have to do similar project or hire someone. Not going to hire mold remediation company and pay $2000-$3000. Unless the seller can fix it.
We had a flood and my cabinet is ruined have been waiting for husband to fix it’s been over 6 months. I’m starting the journey. This tool would be awesome since I have a skeleton for the cabinet
The tenants in my father's place rotted out the whole thing. The pipes leaked, and instead of fixing it, they just put aluminum foil to catch the water. He's had tenants from Turkey in the place for the last, what has to be fifteen years, and they've ALWAYS had problems anything with running water. They never fix anything, and just let it fester, and make a BIGGER mess by the time they move out. This helps out a lot. Thanks.
Lots of Yt vids showing replacing a solid floor. No one brave enough to show tackling the dreaded partical board!! I had to do this for a unit. PITA! now I've discovered a leak in my own sink, but not before mold set in sheesh. I wish I'd made video of my prior replacement for eference . I sure could have used a multitool back then. Now I have an excuse to drop the cash on one.
Thanks for the informative work through. What if the side board is water damaged? Should I cut the damaged part off ( like 1/3 way off) and slap a new piece? Thanks
Nice video! I'd like to know what type of plywood you used. Also, I liked the counter top in the kitchen. what is it? Granite? Laminate? What is the name of it? Thanks!
Omg....I just know how to install a door knob. I need a beginners class in tools. 😩😩I have such much stuff that need to be done in my house and this is one of them. I'm looking at this like 😨😨😱😱😱😵😵👀👀.
Be patient and be safe, you can start doing easier fixes first and then progress in difficulty as you acquire more skills. Don't let a project intimidate you, but also don't do anything you don't feel safe doing. You will mess some things up at first, that is your learning curve. Good luck! and stay safe always!
you can always use a USB endoscope or borescope or snake inspection camera, many names for the same product. A small hole and you are in, some even connect to your phone.
Vinyl won't help...the water will just pool and travel along the sides and soak in to the particleboard...I know...I had mine covered with a sheet of vinyl flooring...doesn't help much at all if there's a significant leak.
@@dodgedabullet670 I agree, you should not have any water damage, if something is leaking fix that first, if not you will be replacing this pretty often, regardless of vinyl piece or a rubber mat.
I need to do this but unfortunately i need to do the back wall also. Recently replaced faucet and discovered that it had been leaking down and behind the wall. Unfortunately there is no easy fix for mildew smell except to rip it all out. Great job. What color did your SO choose ? lol
bmoraski you can try with bleach and see how you go from there. The final color was... white, you can see that later on in my other video about the water filter system. thanks!
Nice ad for Dewalt...but by the time I buy the tools needed, spend all my time running around to get what's needed...might as well get a carpenter in to do the job right! But at least I know it can be done!
@@dvbdvbdvb Thanks. I took out the whole thing myself, and now there's only tile there. So I put a bucket underneath the pipe until someone can fix it. At least that horrible mildew smell is gone now, and I can use my sink! It was quite a job, though. I'm beat. ;)
The tools are free. Pay someone else to do it or buy the tools, over time your collection and skills grow. That probably took two hours and you could charge $100-$200 for the repair.
Very helpful! Can't believe I made it this far in life without a Multi-tool!
Honestly and the way you started, I couldn't believe will end this well. Well done my friend.

I just fixed leak and repiped under my sink!
Did the demo... all thanks to your video!
Made me comfortable doing just as you did!
Thanks.

Very helpful and useful video, good to know there's a way to repair cabinets without having to replace everything - Thank you!

Great Video!! Youve made me a believer. Thank you
Nice work. Particle part is so cheap. I will be replacing mine soon. Thanks!
Enjoyed the video and I’m confident to do it myself now. Thanks.
👍 Good job. The oscillating tool blade can be adjusted to 45°.
Good video! What do I do with the center board on the cabinet in order to get the new board iin..Thanks for the directions!
Kacy Wheatley are you talking about the frame of the cabinet where the doors hang and close into?
Yes sir.
Kacy Wheatley ohh, leave it there, I had to cut my bottom section in half to make it fit. If you touch that you risk the integrity of the cabinet.
dvbdvbdvb ok, will do. I will cut it in half. Too bad they don't make that center board removable. They know we will more than likely have to do this at some point. Thank you very much for your help, I truly appreciate it!
dvbdvbdvb it took me 5 hours. All of the braces we're rotten too. Had to replace everything. Looks great now. Thank you for your guidance!!
great job! I need to do this. I wonder how much a plumber would charge? I think my garburator leaked a tad bit of water..
Great job-I need to do this👍
Im scared to see what's underneath mine...but it has to be changed. My next project
Me too! Lol. Did you change it?
termites

Will this work if I have active mold on the particle board from my water leak

great video! thanks for helping us
You probably know by now that the blade in your multi tool can be installed in other orientations for example at a right angle.

wow, tough work, but in the end you got it. 🙂
What did we do before oscillating tools!
They should band hat particleboard all together is more trouble than what it worth

I don't know how yours is supported, if doing so be sure it will not collapse under its own weight during repairs.
dvbdvbdvb thanks for the reply. That’s what I’m worrying about. But again, the end of side is rotted anyway.
Nice video! I'd like to know what type of plywood you used. Also, I liked the counter top in the kitchen. what is it? Granite? Laminate? What is the name of it? Thanks!
I need a saw like that. What it is again? Great job

Mr Keep it real 😂😂
I'm in exactly the same boat!
My bathroom sink has a leak in the pipe. I want to see what's under the vanity cabinet floor without tearing it up permanently. What to do?
you can always use a USB endoscope or borescope or snake inspection camera, many names for the same product. A small hole and you are in, some even connect to your phone.
@@dvbdvbdvb I might have to do that because we had some minor mold under sink kitchen cabinet and drywall.Want to see below the cabinet base.
Now cover in vinyl so that doesn't happen again.

What if the wood under the plywood is rotten too?
a year later...Studs are often treated. Plywood, in many cases, is not.
That's our problem, too

I think a borax and vinegar mix will deodorize and resist future mold growth. The borax keeps the mold killed off and the vinegar kills odor.
RAT NEST, squirrel wouldn't live there!. If I may, run the video at normal speed, too shaky.
It's like a Laurel & Hardy movie. 😂😂😂😂
Definitely want to wear ear protection for that one with that tool. I know from experience if ya know what i mean dude

So I need to call a carpenter. 😉 Great video though.
This is exactly my problem, only with worse damage to the particleboard. How much should a handyman charge you to do this kind of repair?
No idea, it also depends where you live, maybe $200 plus materials?
@@dvbdvbdvb Thanks. I took out the whole thing myself, and now there's only tile there. So I put a bucket underneath the pipe until someone can fix it. At least that horrible mildew smell is gone now, and I can use my sink! It was quite a job, though. I'm beat. ;)
What a complete pain in the ass. I have these tools, and the know how, but I don't fold like I used to. Thanks for the demo.
lol Great comment about "folding." I'm in the same boat!
For me it's "UNfolding" that's hard.
Omg ...U did an overhaul
How can I contact you?
That tool sounds too much like a dentist drill----- no way I want to use that thing
lol
I thought the same thing. Reminds me of a dentist visit. 😁
😂😂😂😂
Who ever redoes those cabinets is gonna wonder why it wont come off the wall
All you need is $500 worth of specialized tools.
Or you can just rent them....
The tools are free. Pay someone else to do it or buy the tools, over time your collection and skills grow. That probably took two hours and you could charge $100-$200 for the repair.
damn bro it took you a long ass time
