My cousin thinks it looks too much like a Jeep from certain angles and an FJ Cruiser. I really don’t get his perspective. It looks exactly what an old school bronco would look like today. We hardly agree on cars so I shouldn’t be too surprised.

This is the first vehicle design in a while that hasn’t taken any time to grow on me. It’s absolutely beautiful on screen and I’m sure it’s even better in person. I think ford has a big hit on their hands. It’ll be interesting to see if the bronco revives the market for traditional body on frame SUVs bringing new competitors coming back to the segment.

The "Easter eggs" honoring the heritage of the original is pure class! The emblem on the center console mimicking the grille of the original (rivets for headlights) is nothing but genius and pride. Thank you for this interview. I made a less than half hearted attempt to become an automotive designer thirty years ago. Not sure if I could have dealt with the high pressure that surrounds developing a vehicle or living in an unfamiliar location. It remains a childhood dream but a less than feasible adult reality. I still love mostly cars and some SUVs. The new Broncos are absolutely well done and now I'm thinking I'd like to replace my car with one. We'll see what opportunities the future brings.

New customers like me, dont come from the Jeep market.
I have several times over the last twenty years looked at a Wrangler Jeep.
Always walked away and bought something else.
The Jeep has always conveyed a level of cheapness, and tinniness.
I have heard from others who had them that they broke often.
I like the Bronco,as it is a newer technology.
    Jeep just kinda became complacent.

      @TheMoistDonuts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

James Henry same. Id go to dealerships with my wife and look at the Wranglers. My wife would just be like “get it out of your system”. We always end up leaving the lot empty handed. I love the look but never feel like im getting enough for what im paying for..which is essentially the brand itself. Id always be like damn..5 inch screen and crap stuff on base Sport or Sport s and its completely outpriced and outdated in terms of constructivity. Id always be like damn this is pricey for just a base trim...dealers always say the same excuse..well its a Wrangler. Thats it. Thats the response 100% of the time. Finally we saw the unveiling of the Bronco on the day of, and a few days prior we were considering a Wrangler again. My wife and I fell in love with the new Bronco. We havent put a reservation but we are definitely getting one when they hit lots. I want to see it up close, test drive it, see the seating options, etc. then I’ll order one.

@@TheMoistDonuts Nice anecdotes. I'm a little behind you guys since I never even bothered to look at Jeeps when considering a new vehicle, but ironically, the new Bronco has opened my eyes to Jeeps and this "new" vehicle segment, of course if had to choose between the two right now, it'll probably be the Bronco. Judging by your comments, it seems Jeep got cocky/complacent, charging a lot for less features, not really a "value purchase" but mainly you're buying the brand's cachet...would it be fair to compare them to Harley-Davidson's attitude? This Bronco looks so tempting...especially that 2 door Cyber Orange flagship model👍

Oh ya what an amazing interview with the chief designer. I am so exited this Bronco has been on my mind since the reveal. It is amazing that he kept the ease of panel change out to a minimum and the look of the old school Bronco is amazing. I'm a hard core offroader and have owned a jeep since 1999 I take this thing on trails most people would never do. I am definitely adding the Bronco to my line up my jeep will get to know the the new member of the family soon. The Bronco of choice for me is gonna be the wildtrak red and black i am going for speed this time with 2 inch lift 37" tires 4 doors. I love how the interior looks as well as the exterior and the suspension design. I will do the traditional offroad coilovers and bypass shocks to further soak things up under extreme speeds. Nice job on the design looks amazing wow and I can't wait to get my hands on it for sure.

Its such a Perfect design! So Retro yet so new. And he made one comment that stood out to be soooooo true. "simple is hard" The bronco looks simple, but all its proportions are just rite, and if you get any of them wrong it all looks wrong. But something like a supercar that looks exciting can actually be ugly yet be striking enough with individual features that makes it attactive. Many Ferraris are actually ugly, But they always have design Features youve never seen used in an actual road going car, so they are all striking to look at. This new Bronco is something that normally would only exists as a concept vehicle. something so rite and so perfect that would normally get completely watered down into less that a shadow of concept with the production model. This is the exact opposite of that scenario, and seldom seen accomplished in the automotive industry. Im talking about cars like the Porsche Carrera GT, The FORDGT, cars that debuted as something that would never be sold to the public but actually did. This is mostly due to Ford having the Leeway to do it rite since they litterally axed their entire fleet of cars, minus the mustang. Now they have the financies and manpower to create something great, and they did, and they had to, because Like the Jeep Wrangler, This isnt a normal vehicle which gets design updates year after year. This is a Brand specific vehicle, and thankfully Ford is playing it as such. Bronco as its own sub brand with its own fleet of vehicles. So its look does not have to change every other model year. Its is what it is as a product. more over. They were super smart to include everything you could want straight out the gate. Meaning.. this thing will sell like hotcakes!!!!!. forget about the Tesla CyberTruck. Bronco just killed it. The only other Vehicle that will see some decent sales will be the forthcoming Rivian who are in partnership with ford. But even that will have a hard sell due to its price. This Bronco as great as it is, even has a great price and entry level. they just hit the ball out the park. During a time when people are itching at the idea of teh great outdoors due to covid 19.

Which is surprising, considering most of the engineering work (not design work) was done by Ford Australia using the Ford Ranger platform. Plus the fact that the Mustang is sold here in RHD from factory. C'mon Ford, build the Bronco in RHD. If you do, I'll have a Bronco 4-Door Wildtrak in Cyber Orange.

Ford did an amazing job on the new Bronco! It's really cool and amazing to get turn assist like a Land Cruiser and full front and rear lockers! Toyota needs to take note on this redesign, and bring back the 300 series in more of the form of the 40 to 60 series. I believe the Bronco will be a huge success! Maybe Ford will surprise us some day and add a 5.0 V8 to the option list at some point with a nice exhaust note! The 2.7 should pull that around very nice though.

I am going to purchase one with some disappointment.
    4 door
Manual v6. Was wanted manual 4 is resigned to
Black diamond cause the floor drain and bash armor. Marine grade interior
Sasquatch packaged for the 35 and front lock
But major disappointment I cannot get swaybar disconnects.
To get the model that has disconnect it would seem to price me out and go away from wanted selections . But I will still purchase.

    Okay, Okay, Okay!!!
What a happy coincidence! I was just talking today at my Ford dealer this morning about my favorite spec. I said 2 door, 7 speed, Sasquatch, Base or Black Diamond. I also said "I wonder who the designer is?" Brits like basic utility vehicles too.
When he said "maybe something we haven't done YET", did anyone else think he meant the V8?
When he said they weren't looking to sell it "in Europe" do you think he meant « we may build a left hand drive version in Thailand for Australia, and my homeland of Great Britain! »
Does this Bronco make Ford a disruptor? It is capable, desirable, adaptable, Instagramable, affordable and many other "ables". So it goes without saying that it kicks Jeep Wrangler right in the plums. It also attacks the unpretentious G-wagen customer base, (if there is any) with a less expensive yet somehow more desirable triple locked utility vehicle. Next it absolutely crushes the new defender, as it has real British design! Next it hits Land Rover again because who is going to pay their refurbished classics rates for a basic old car when you could have this. Next it kills he Defender imports values, because who will spend a $100G's on a 25 year old clangy, clattery, elbow crushing Defender now. Ditto for all the other importers like Land Cruiser 70 series et.. It also hits the restomod industry because who will wait 2 years and pay $120,000 for a build up of a 66 Bronco when you can just go to your dealer and sign to lease this? Then there is all the accessories! This guy may be the most influential auto designer of this century!

Thanks for the comment, Duminda. Ford has shown the production design. Just make sure if you see the doors-off gray four-door or the orange two-door with the donut-hole half doors that you realize they both have a lot of additional aftermarket parts on them to illustrate what’s possible with the base vehicle.

Jonathan Ward at ICON makes the best restomods or bone stock original first generation Broncos. My only knock on this design are the arched fender wheel wells and the front grille. The original Ford big block letter grille with inset turn indicators and staggered sloped fender wheel wells are "Iconic". I only wish they could have incorporated that design. What I love is that it's a futuristic design from the original bronco and the innovative functional designs to give Jeep a run for their money. This will provide healthy competition for better vehicles as they compete against each other each trying to outdo each other to sway the public to their side of the fence.

The 2.7 is the fastest pickup on the road. It blows the doors off the 3.5, 5.0 and the Hemi's and even the 6.2L GM's. They are stout, take a beating and tuners can get even more out of them. (~320/425 at the wheels in a F150!)

I am happy with my 2020 2-door Wrangler Rubicon. However, based on what I've seen, so far, want to replace my Jeep with a 2-door Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch Package. Only hesitation is the Bronco being a bit longer and wider than my Jeep. Mountain shelf roads are already a bit intimidating.
