I absolutely love how you use verbal encouragement the full time. Your horse just seems to want to please you, seems like an absolute doll! Good on ya :)
yes Callum is wright! love the way you talk to you're horse constantly! you can see that this isn't a sport where you have to be mad on you're horse you 2 are made for eachother!
That's what I love about eventing, just about any horse and rider can do it:) This is only really my 5th year eventing, and it is a blast! The people are laid back and friendly, you don't need a big fancy horse to do well and have fun. Everyone is so great and helpful, and it really doesn't get any better than a good cross country run!! I absolutely love it, and I hope you get the chance to get into it too:)
It´s so nice to hear the way you´re talking to her :) And seeing her energy and her love to do what you guys do toghether! Amazing course! Though I don´t think I´d ever dare ride it myself, I´m not much of a jumper.
Love it! My dream is to get into eventing as a working student for a few years (or so, we'll see!) after school, and then just continue working in the horse industry. I grew up in the hunter/jumper world, and when I started fox hunting 5 years ago, i realized how much i love the XC. Stayed with my H/J trainer to keep working on the SJ and dressage skills, now I'm riding on my college's eq team, but I really want to get into eventing after this!
The fact that somebody as good in eventing as you are didn't get into it until after college makes me feel a lot better! I keep thinking about how Boyd Martin had won a 4 star by the time he was 20, Will Coleman had won NAYRC, etc, and it freaks me out! Not that I expect to be the next champion 4 star rider, but you get my drift ;) Marilyn Little-Meredith gives me hope as well! Haha
Sunny is a TB so it's fairly easy to keep her in shape compared to a draft cross or something like that. I do lots of conditioning work in the spring, lots and lots of walking, long trots, trot/canter sets, and a couple good gallops. I start easy and then work up to the more demanding stuff. Once we are in eventing season just my regular riding and clinics are enough to keep her fit through the summer, but I know some people have to keep conditioning all the time, just depends on the horse:)
The one and only thing. I did not like about this video. Was the amount of deforestation. Other then that. I will say that. You are a great rider and I wish I could ride like you some day.
The jumps have specific colored numbers for each level, and you walk the course on foot a couple times before you ride. It's not as confusing as it seems, once you get familiar with an event site, the courses usually follow a similar path each year. Takes a bit of practice, but not hard at all once you do it a time or two:) Sunny does love to run, seems like she always wants to go faster, haha. Thanks:)
@wolfsrule100 Some of them were used for other divisions, the white with black numbers were for pre-training, the division below us, and green and white numbers is for the division above, prelim:)
You know I always wanted to event growing up, and it wasn't until after I graduated college that I was able to finally get into it! I think that's a great plan, I wish I would have done the working student thing more seriously after I graduated from college! Fox hunting is definitely on my to-do list as well, I'm hopefully going to be able to get out this fall with a hunt club near me and finally be able to cross that off my list:)
@Pellsk Awww, thank you so much!! :) She has come SUCH a long way the past couple years, it's been quite the journey, and I'm so glad she seems to love eventing as much as I do:)

@lilacwinteraire She does loooooove to run! :) And thanks, I'm so glad you enjoy them! Sunny's a 10 year old TB, she raced for a bit but didn't do very well. I do love the OTTB's:)
@gypsydreamer09 I'm not so much thinking about the scenery on course, but Alberta has a good variety of terrain, from treed areas to open plains to mountains!! It really is so beautiful everywhere you go:) And thank you!
@MyGuyTy821 That's probably the most difficult coffin combination we saw at my level this year, just the angle of approach and the lay of the ground, and the jumps are pretty sizable!! :)
@saremaganti Thank you:) This course was about 2500m long if I remember correctly, and yeah we were going at a bit of a gallop. I actually asked her to whoa right after that one fence before we went down the steep hill, we had never done anything like that before so there was no need to rush:) You can here me say whoa if you listen with the sound on, lol.
@MyLove4Horses The jumps are numbered and color coded and you walk the course a few times before you go, so you know where you're heading! I find cross country WAY easier to remember than stadium jumping, you've got lots of time to sort out where you're going in between! Haha.
@albertaeventer Haha agreed! I've never gotten lost in either, but I've had way more close calls in stadium than XC. :D People always ask me this question, and ask if I know where I'm going based on the numbers... my answer is always that if I have to resort to looking at the flags, I'm in trouble anyways, haha. Really nice video, love your horse!
i can only imagine how in shape these horses must be to be able to canter/gallop that long XD what kind of training do you do to get/keep your mare in shape for this?
I'm getting started with eventing and I have a 16.3 percheron Tb cross I was just curious on why you slowed down at 2:23. I'm not insulting I just honestly don't know and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks
How do you remember what jumps? and where to go? I am confused by this. Can you help me and also Sunny is absolutely adorable and beautiful! :) you two are perfect for each other :) it seems like the whole time shes like "Mom can I go faster?????"
ok thank you :) maybe sometime later in life i would love to try it :) when I find a barn that would be willing to teach me lol right now I am working at a dressage barn hahaha :) but nice job :)
@ilovehorsez4 Not really, I totally trust my horse, and she trusts me, and I think that's one of the most important thing about eventing. Some of the stuff is pretty technical and difficult, but I know my horse is brave as hell and she is game for anything:)
I've always wished I could ride like that, galloping and jumping. I'll bet it's thrilling.
I absolutely love how you use verbal encouragement the full time. Your horse just seems to want to please you, seems like an absolute doll! Good on ya :)
The horse seems to live it. So enthusiastic! Great Job👍
yes Callum is wright! love the way you talk to you're horse constantly! you can see that this isn't a sport where you have to be mad on you're horse you 2 are made for eachother!
This looks like a brilliant course and you rode it so well! Well done 😃
Beautiful mare! I love how you praise her as well!

Thank you!! It is definitely one of my favorites:)
I've been to this place for my fist ever xc its by Rocky mountain House and we went on the small jumps for schooling
Elson Elson Ya, I think this is the place where Pony Club goes for the summer camp. If it is, I'm excited to run through it with my horse!
that combination right before 4:00 was SCARY!
@albertaeventer Haha agreed! It's incredible to think she didn't race all that fast but she looks like she's bloody fanging it here.
Boy, can your Sunny fly! I'm loving your videos. Excellent rider and horse. How old/what breed is Sunny? Her neck looks like TB but wasn't sure :)
How do you remember what jumps? and where to go? I am confused by this. Can you help me and also Sunny is absolutely adorable and beautiful! :) you two are perfect for each other :) it seems like the whole time shes like "Mom can I go faster?????"

@GoGadgetHookerClean Aw thank you!!! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos:)
That is very true!! Thank you:)
@albertaeventer The jump at 1:20 I think, Its hard to remember. I judged all the divisions

@albertaeventer oh ok Thanks for explaining
