This is a rare sight … you don’t see them with the cape on ..normally they wear the big heavy military issue over coat and belt … I’m not sure if I like the looks of the cape .. but hey as long as it keep the chill off and keeps them dry that’s the main thing I guess
The protective capes are a good idea; keeps the rain/chill off and they're probably not as nearly heavy as the long coats used for colder weather. Best wishes from the Midwest!
@drumclean9384 it certainly does. All the Army's dress uniforms are made of very thick cloth made with wool. They are very warm but smell bad when wet and take forever to dry
I’m former Scots Guards this is a wet mount for the Kings Guard as both Buckingham Palace and St James Palace mount the guard wearing capes and no regimental bands . Next month the Guards will change from summer order to winter order wear Greatcoats. 🔵🔴🔵
1st May to 31st September is Summer uniform. 'The red tunics are called 'Home Service dress tunics'. These are worn in the summer months - April until October. During autumn and winter they change into great coats - long grey coats - much more practical for the weather they have to endure while standing guard outside Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.
The capes are comparatively cheap compared to the staggering cost of their dress uniforms. 35 years ago I was told the cost of a Guard uniform was over £2000 so I shudder to think of the cost today. Once wet these uniforms have to be dried and ready for parade ASAP.
I realise adding new content daily is not easy so simplifying the process has it's advantages, but at the moment your videos are aesthetically pleasing but a little boring. You need to start a running commentary explaining the why's and what's of what we are watching. I hope I haven't offended you, it is simply constructive criticism.
Its a necessary evil in the climate we live in. It is a disappointment not to see the colours but best they stay dry at least. I just realized that they went into the King's residence so they would be mainly on outdoor duty since no barracks there for shelter so that could be the reason for the ponchos...Its the 1st time I've seen them.@@phoebebrown2883

Greatcoats are worn in the winter and capes when it’s raining.
And it’s an everyday occurrence when it’s raining.
@@robertmclellan3658 They often wear capes!!
@@barrymcmanmon9595 That’s exactly what I said.
I’ve seen these capes, they look great and very appropriate for UK weather❤❤❤

Thanks
Many thanks to you Geraldine, really appreciate your kind support!
Raining keeping the soldiers dry & their wool uniforms ! It would probably take them awhile to dry !❤

Lovely to see ❤
Thanks for tuning in 🙏
It’s because they’re still in summer order, but the weather isn’t really…summery lol
I love all the pompous ceremony!!
Pomp AND Ceremony, Pomp AND Ceremony, pompous ceremony, mostly done by politicians in my experience, is something entirely different.
Looks more like a rain cape, than a heavy winter cloak.
That is precisely what it is

Perhaps chilly for capes, but not freezing for their top coats? Both Montes Branches in their winter order! Interesting. Thankyou!❤😊
They are wearing capes because of the rain. The capes protect the rifles
I always feel incredible pride and respect when I see the soldiers🫶
I like the grey mushroom look! 👍😉
When I joined the R.A.F. in 1954 I was issued with a Great Coat and a Cape that doubled up as a Ground Sheet(Poncho).... So There!
Our armed forces, there’s always a reason behind why they do something, I’ve no idea why though
when the uniforms get wet they weight a ton...it is not good for their health...and ruins the uniforms as well.
Raining of course!
@@emstirling-is4nu thanks 😁I knew there was a good read
I love mounted police, they do excellent job looking after our service people and they are always immaculately dressed

They'll be back in Great Coats soon.
Nice
It could have been a surprise inspection to see who does not have one. 3:32 3:42
😐
Not rare at all, it just depends on the weather!
I can hear edna growling over this

Sorry, Mounted!!😮
They are there winter capes instead of there cloaks not time for there cloaks yet
Their, as in belonging to, not there as in over there.
That is not rare ex grenadier
Certainly not a common sighting for many
Those are not kings guards…they are London police officers…duh!
Not a fan of the capes I am afraid.
That's because you have a choice on what to wear, thy do not!
@@emstirling-is4nu I know that.

If it's raining in the summer, what's the alternative? Just get soaked?
