He plays delicately in quieter passages and strongly in other parts.His fingering is a joy to watch and he conveys so much of what Beethoven wants us to hear...CONGRATULATIONS FROM LONDON.....
CD doesn't do Yunchan's playing a justice.
What we need is a Bluray to see and feel the essence of pure magical music making. I wish for the Bluray version of this concert soon.

Yunchan Lim is really amazing. Almost every piece he plays becomes one of the greatest performances in history. His performance of Liszt's Transcendental Etudes was one of the best renditions that can be compared to Lazar Berman's famous recording of 1958. When he played Rachmaninov's third Piano Concerto at the Van Cliburn Pino Competition it immediately became one of the greatest performances in history. Now the same is true of this concerto of Beethoven. Before I heard this performance by Yunchan Lim, the best rendition for me was the recording by Arturo Beneditti Michelangeli with Wiener Symphoniker under Carlo Maria Giulini in 1987 and that never chaged for decades. However, the moment I heard this performance by Yunchan Lim a few days ago, my favorite changed at once. I have never heard this concerto so full of life. When I first heard this performance, I thought it was a studio-edited recording because it was literally flawless and the ensemble with the orchestra was so perfect. And when I realized it was a live recording, my surprise doubled!

Hi, i personally prefer Horowitz, Gould, Rubinstein, Michelangeli's Beethoven 5 interpretations rather than Yunchan. Personally, i feel imho Jorge Bolet, Berman and Cziffra have well interpreted Liszt rather than Yunchan. I prefer Horowitz 1930 and Bryon Janis Rach 3 rather than Yunchan. But Yunchan is so young, just give him a few more years to mature and gain more life experience. Yunchan may have been affected and deeply influenced by some of the Golden Age great pianist. Yunchan maybe a legend in the making.

I am sure he will play with the Royal Concertgebouw which came to Korea. It was excellent orchestra. The orchestra performed all 9 symphonies in Seoul. I went to Seoul to go to the concerts from USA.

I must admit he plays very well outstanding. I have heard brendel live and askenazy but this guy is pretty special. Since the 1970s l have not heard such an outstanding performance. I have to say its on a par with best l have ever heard in last 50 years

@@cha_nee919 I think he is an incredible musician and plays with a maturity and musical sensitivity that is way beyond his years, but we must not forget the many other great pianists - both past and present. In an interview Luchan said he draws inspiration from Horowitz eg, and several other pianists. Think of Grigory Sokolov, Alexander Malofeev, Yuja Wang, Martha Aregerich... to name a few - each deserves our attention and respect. Everyone is entitled to their personal favorites. Even if Yuchan Lim matures into the greatest pianist of his day, that doesn't mean we should discount other wonderful pianists. What brings the masterpieces of the great composers alive, is the differing
interpretations of dedicated, highly gifted musicians (perhaps geniuses) who give of themselves and give us the most incredible musical experiences; allow us to marvel at the towering, almost inexplicable genius of Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmonioff.... A comment on TH-cam of Yuja Wang playing Rachmonioff 3 piano concerto was "It's kind of boring after hearing Yuchan Lim play this". Yuja Wang is never boring as far as I know!! And many said "what a stupid comment" not because Yuchan Lim isn't great but because so is Yuja Wang. Also one can listen to Yefim Bronfam, Andrei Garvilov especially the version conducted by Lazerev playing the Rachmonioff no 3 piano concerto, great examples of the Russian tradition of power and virtuosity. Yuchan Lim is marvelous but it would be very wrong to suddenly forget the rest of the music world!
