Speed Painting an eBay TRASH ARMY

  • This week I spend a few hours finishing up my Warhammer Age of Sigmar Ossiarch Bonereaper army that I got off of eBay for a little more than $150. A little bit of planning, a little bit of motivation and you can really accomplish things really quickly in this hobby, and that is really the heart of the episode this week. Skeletons are a ton of work, but they don't have to be. Strip this tutorial down to bare bones and you have a great recipe for getting great looking skeletons in no time. It's my go to technique and it pretty much never fails!

I have a paralyzing ADHD problem that keeps me from getting anything done ever. Your tips on how to approach painting full armies has helped me to paint a complete unit. I started by making a plan with test models. I then timed myself painting that scheme with decent speed, worrying less about the mistakes and more about a finished unit. I hope to have a full army soon. Thank you for all you do. It's helped me immensely.

This was actually funny to read, because me too.. I've got 2100 points of necrons, and i've got about 30% painted, even have some models that aren't even assembled yet, and haven't been for a month. Some are assembled but not primed, some are assembled and primed, not painted, and my doom scythe is only half painted.. It really sucks

Sure, the glamour shots at the end are nice, but I get more out of the process. You are really pushing me to think differently about how much detail I include on a model, and what sort of time scale I set for myself to build it. Rescuing old model trains is a little different, but getting bogged down and losing inspiration half-way through a build because I set my personal bar too high is the same no matter what the hobby is. Besides, I can always go back later and add more or refine the model further. Thanks!😀

Mig and ak interactive both have a product called streaking grime, which is really just a brown enamel wash. Thankfully I already have my Nighthaunt scheme planned out and it's only like 6 paints, thanks to my CC Death Elemental/Mourngul that kicked it off. So once I finish building those I just have to strip some preowned Hexwraiths and then prime everything together.

I’ve definitely had the same issue with this ink, washes, contrast paints. Any kind of water based paint really tears up the ink. I let it sit overnight if I plan on using that stuff with a brush. I haven’t had any issues with enamels though, probably because it doesn’t interact with the ink in the same way water does.
Still. It never hurts to use a varnish before using any other products over the white ink, that or let it sit overnight to let it fully cure.

What cleaner/solvent do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner?

I prefer LA's Totally Awesome in the ultrasonic cleaner, and if I need to get in there a little more I'll soak it in some 99% isopropyl alcohol

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Holy cow, I found some LA's art the dollar store. I loaded up, and one of the caps came off in the back of the car. It took the paint off of the bottle, and the shopping bag, and then packaging of a couple other items I bought. This stuff is... uh... awesome!

You should let people adopt your rescues for a fee of course. Turn it into a store.

He does auction them off after unless he says he's keeping them.

Yeah It's been a while since I've done an auction, but when I do I put the models back up on ebay and they are always free shipping worldwide and start at the same price that I purchased the model for. I plan on getting some back on ebay sooner than later, and when I do I will make sure to let everyone know and put up links!

Five hours per army is never going to look as good as five hours per mini, but the time to results ratio is off the charts :)

what advice would you give to teh guy who persevered and trekked on and made the commmitment to the original army model's, when he sees this video? We should honor the hard work that goes unrecognized, amongst the tabletop miniature community.

This is a confusing comment. The original owner didn't persevere. They gave up and discarded them for pennies on the dollar on eBay. That is pretty much the opposite. Am I misunderstanding your meaning?
