Great sound from all and nice contribution from Sikiru Adepoju's talking drum.

Totally wicked! Drums and space were always one of my favourite parts of a GD show and maaaan, he continues to explore whole new levels I would say. The possibilities really are endless...

    • @christheghostwriter
      @christheghostwriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I used to say that I paid my $20 to hear those drums and percussion pumped through a massive PA system, and the 15 or so songs the band played were just a bonus. The sonic and vibratory impact of Drums/Space could only be experienced in person. I could (and still do) enjoy the experience of listening to recordings of GD shows, but the only way to really enjoy the experience of Drums/Space was to be bathed in the kind of sound and vibration that can only be produced by an arena-sized sound system

I saw these guys live circa 2008. The raw talent on stage was incredible. Each of them took over the show at different parts. Definitely a different kind of show than most I have seen, but it was exhilarating.

Saw these guys at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. Absolutely unreal! These are some of the best musicians on the planet. They battled each other with drum solos on stage and just when you thought they couldn’t possibly out do the other, they came back with something so wicked words cannot describe it. I’ll probably never see them live again so I’m so glad my dad took me when I was younger.

I will never forget one time at Hartford Civic Center Bill Kreutzman was gently playing some cymbols, then suddenly Mickey comes out from hiding and hits this LARGE gong that ROCCCCCCCKKKKKS the whole coliseium. AWESOME!!!!

So many wonderful instruments have been invented over the years. It’s crazy to think about all of them, so I’ll just list as many percussion instruments as I can off the top of my head:
    Drum-set, to be sure
    Congas
    Bongos
    Djembe
    Cajons
    Timbales
    Shakers
    Maracas
Cowbells (and you *GOTTA* have more)
    Blocks
    Doumbek/Darbuka
I mean the list goes on and on.

What a shame you cannot appreciate this Mr. Sally! This group is recognized around the world, and respected by so many. Noise? Maybe organized chaos, maybe the purity of only using drums for harmony/melody/bass is to complex for you to grasp. Fortunately those from around the world and of many different cultures are able to appreciate and enjoy what you seem unable to understand.

wow, some cutting remarks here...yes, mickey hart is clearly outmatched by these titans, but lets not forget he brought them together, and is exposing alot of people to a broader range of experiences musically...yes,as an artist i too get frustrated when i see people with means pulling off their dreams because they can, but would we not want to do the same?...the original planet drum was 89, 90, olatunji, airto, hidalgo, mickey, zakkir, and i want to say steve gadd?

You were given the wrong name.
It is a Tamma or Talking Drum (the name he used in the clip). It is an hourglass shaped drum. Check Wikipedia.
A Dundun is much too heavy to play in that fashion just check the Dundun picture in Wikipedia.
