Always liked the purple screamers. Those sand cast 99.5 MXZ 700's and 2000 formula z's always seemed to run so much better than the diecast 700 that followed too. Keep up the great vids!
That was a great year for all 3 brands.i had a 95 zrt 600,buddies had the zrt 600 and others had f3 amd xcrs…it was extremely fun.they were all so competitive.we were always doing some Gearing, clutching carb work to hopefully get the edge on your buddy.than it was pipes shaved heads, timing keys, big carbs ect.triple/triple days…what a time to be alive!
My buddy had that sled and he would usually win in a longer lake race, it had long legs on top. I don't remember anything stock under 800cc beating it. That chassis transferred very well out of the hole but handling wasn't great. We had to put a pile of money into our Polaris sleds just to hang with it.
I still have my 1994 formula z with mild trail performance work done. In 1995 UpState NY I ran into the dealer running the shootout winning formula 3 on Big Moose lake. I beat the f3 two times with my FZ and he was not happy. I lifted the cowl to prove it was a 580 as I stated and not a 670 as he swore it had to be. He asked how long I was going to stay as I was embarrassing him and the sled. Great times at the Moose!
@@skidoojunky6230 Thanks for the compliment, I have a multitude of tales with that sled. I forgot to praise you for your beautiful collection of sleds. MM
What would you buy or recommend in that price range and year to buy? 1996 formula 3 600 or a mxz 470 or 670 long track or what would you think is the best ski doo model to buy?
I believe you own a 1997 Mach Z 800 Triple as well ? I think i seen one in the background in one of your videos ! We have owned a couple great sleds and very fast ! We also had the LT version the Long Track which is very Rare
Just curious, if the roughness of the original sandcast was the greatest benefit, do you think sandblasting the inside of the case on a non-sandcast 600 would be benificial?
I wish I still had a lot of things that came out of that little farm shop back in the 90’s Mike! Like your 93 Plus X, your 99 MxZ 700…….if we only knew.
Interesting story! So, I'm just curious......when you look at the engine itself, is it obviously sandcast? Like is it really easy to tell the sandcast from the spuncast just by looking at them?
If you know what to look for, yes. It is easy to tell. It is obvious when the top end is off of the case. The inner halves of the case are equally as textured/rough as the exterior on a sandcast case versus a smooth inner half of a spun cast case. The aluminum is also a darker grey on a sand cast case as well.

Thanks! I had an early 99’mxz 700 also. Wish I still had it!

The mid 90’s was definitely the heart of the muscle sled era! Everyone was battling to be the top dawg!
Favourite sled in your collection 😍
It’s definitely one of the ones with the coolest pedigree!
Another awesome video, thanks for sharing your knowledge on these sleds.
You are welcome! Glad you enjoy it!

That must be one stout 583. That year the F3 600 won both the 600 and 700 class of memory serves me correctly.

Thanks again for another great video. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I had a great time drag racing my new 1996 F-lll in MSDRA on the grass & ice. I got some great tuning/clutching help from Glenn Kafka.
Another good one, Thanks, I have that triple the terror poster in my basement, got it at the 1996 Epping grass drags.
I believe there were 3 different renditions of the 1995.5 posters.

I remember trying one out and ordered the 96 F 111
Enjoy the videos keep them coming
Will do!!!

I do have a 97 Z. It has 300 original miles on it.
@ that’s awesome will you be doing a video on that one ? I’d love to see it !

I don’t think sandblasting a case would replicate the texture of a sandcast case enough to benefit a spuncast aluminum case.
Wish I still had that sled

Keep it up. This is fun to learn about.
Glad you like them. They are fun for me to make as well and it brings back a lot of great memories for me.
I still have a trophy from the 700 mod class at my local grass drag with my f3
They really were that fast. A complete anomaly

I never knew all that. Who woulda thunk !!!
They were very cool sleds. One of the ones I would love to go back in time for!
To me this was the last great body style skidoo or any snowmobile for that matter. The new stuff looks like alien bugs or something
The F chassis Ski-Doo’s were gorgeous sleds!
