    Houseboat Living , In this video I'll walk you through my tiny houseboat and take you for a tour of many of its features. I've done a lot of work on the boat, so everything won't really fit in one video, but I'll be doing lots of videos in the future about some of the work I did to make this a really comfortable functional houseboat. Thanks for watching and please click the like and subscribe button.

    i remember renting these similar houseboats about 24 years ago. Might have been boats made in the early 80s though. I've been going to the river since i was 3 years old and that's when i learned how the water ski behind our brand new Glastron. That was in 79-80

    In regards to the bunk bed situation, I would remove the bed racks and build a fold up couch on one side. Above the couch, you could also install some cabinets. And on the other side, I would build a drawer/tv stand, and another cabinet fixture that's above that. Then you'd have more storage, extra open space, a full bed, another lounge area, and access to the door still.

      Samantha's Tiny Houseboat Adventures >> I live 50 miles north of Galveston and the Gulf Coast. I really prefer saltwater fishing, but, I do enjoy the 'day on the lake' occasionally, which, I usually go to either Lake Houston ( about 13 miles east of my house) , or, to Lake Conroe (about 37 miles north and west of my house). To me there's nothing like catching big crappie! Bass are fun to catch, but, too mushy tasting to eat imo. Again, great boat house! Have fun!

    You did a nice job on it. Let me give you an idea. For the lower bunks, Cut the step down to below the bed level. Take the sides off the bunks. Have a 3/4" plywood to slide across connecting both bunks together. Have another mattress cut to fit that spot, so you will now have a full bed. Make another step to go on top of the other step when the bed is not in use.
    Keep up the good work!!!! Looking forward to more videos with the upgrades.

    I would recommend you get a trickle charger small solar panel that will keep your starter battery topped up all year round. You have enough empty roof space to install a mini split if you wanted and plenty of room to triple your solar if you wanted to but perhaps you have all you need...It just sucks not getting enough sleep when its really hot in the summer...lastly, I was wondering if you could show the stern drive you used to hook up to the Slant Six, like to know if it was a Chrysler or a mercruiser and just exactly how that came together and of course the prop type and size you are using...thanks cool little lazy summer time boat and great little fishing platform and economical to buy I'm sure

    Your love and especially your attention to detail really shines through. Great job young lady and congratulations on Samantha's new life style! Awesome! Now all you have to do is trade out that Chrysler Slant Six (I had one) for a Chrysler Hemi V-8. (Actually a small Diesel would be best, but very expensive). Go with the Hemi. Anyway, Great job so far.

    If you want to use regular apartment size fridge alongside with other things. Use an inverter. The solar will charge the batteries to run the fridge when you're not at the dock. I'm saying this to you because living on a 41ft ketch "sail boat" that's just one way we do it. I'm wanting to do the Great American loop. The boat you have would be perfect for something like that! Just a little something for y'all to to think about. Safe travels

      Hi Blue Berry, the solar panels in the video were a Christmas from my parents. They came as a complete kit from Harbor Freight. Since this video I have beefed my system up and now have a 300 watt panel from Renogy. The set from Harbor Freight worked great and I had no complaints, I only changed it because I needed more power to run a mini fridge. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!

    Can’t you put a bulge vent in to dissipate the fumes? A fan would be necessary but propane is fairly clean and easy to refill.
    Solar with batteries can support an induction cooktop

    Hi Sam, As it turns out, I went back and reviewed you Helm Station and lo and Behold you are correct, the gauges are very, very, expensive and correct. Don't replace them!
    P.S. Propane isn't so bad as long as you have a sensor on board. You could use Alcohol with some kind of a $$$ premium. Regards, Rick

    • @ProverbsProductions
      @ProverbsProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Richard, that's true, expensive and pretty rare is my understanding. The original builder was a speed boat builder from Kentucky. He built a few of these small houseboats as custom orders. I think his knowledge of boats really shines on this one. Even though the elements of the helm are antiquated, we use all of them every time we go out and they always do the job. Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching!

    Nice house boat but I believe I would add 2 house batteries and run the solar panels to them and then get a 12v frig and you could run it and your lights and a TV 📺 off of it all night and the put a very small generator in the back like 1200 watts just enough to keep the batteries charged if you need it in case the sun's no out lol

    • @ProverbsProductions
      @ProverbsProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Since this video was made I've added about 700 watts of solar panels and 4 house batteries (also an independent crank battery for the engine). I run a mini fridge, lights, tv and all electronics off of the solar power system and have never drained the system. Thanks for watching.

    225 slant six are bullet proof little motors, about 160 hp. But you don't need anymore than that with what your pushing. Not crazy about that old stringer drive, but then again your just moving around calm water. Cool little lake cruiser.

      Hi Floyd, the small deck is probably one of the only things I don't like about the boat, I was originally looking for one with a larger deck. The end goal is to take the boat on longer trips, but it still needs some work to get us there. I would love to do the Great Loop and cruise down the Mississippi. There are also a lot of beautiful lakes out west that I would like to explore. Yeah, the cooler never bothered us, I may work on something else, just to have another option. Thanks for watching!

    do not put the heater in the closet, it will severly hinder its effectivness. the heated air will stay in that space and the rest of the boat will heat up very slowly. otherwise, i love the boat. :)

    What is the length of this boat? Did you do any modifications to the trailer to accomodate a flat bottom boat?

    • @ProverbsProductions

      Hi Richard, the boat is 26' long. I believe the trailer was also fabricated by the boats builder (it looks to be homemade). Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

      @@ProverbsProductions What you are doing is brilliant! Let me explain. I am 74 years old, retired from the U.S. Army. I spent years studying every type of RV available and came to the conclusion that a trailerable houseboat beats out everything else available or that one can build. A trailerable houseboat gives you so many ways to enjoy it that other RV's simply do not provide. Some advice from an old soldier. Don't ever sell it. Keep working on it remodeling it, whatever... until you get it exactly as you want it. Then travel to beautiful lakes to go fishing and to enjoy nature. When others are sleeping in some noisy campground, you can be anchored in some quite secluded cove. I am building a 24 ft. houseboat of my own design and when it is finished, I am going to spend a lot of time traveling to lakes to fish & to simply enjoy the solitude. A lot of people really make a huge mistake by buying the wrong RV. You guys made a very wise choice in buying this trailerable houseboat.

      First, thank you for your service to our country! Thank you for the great advice Richard! I'm already making plans for more improvements. I cant wait to take the boats to other lakes in other parts of the country. I hope my work lasts and that one day my daughter will take her family out in the old boat. I'd love to see the boat you've designed. I love home built houseboats and the creativity that goes into them.

    What brand is the solar fan?

    • @ProverbsProductions
      @ProverbsProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gone Fishing, I don't think it has a brand. I bought it off Ebay from a guy cleaning out his shed. When I got it I thought it didn't work, the fan didnt turn at all. Finally figured put the solar panel was undersized . I got a slightly larger panel and now it runs great. It doesn't have a battery bank, it runs when its sunny and doesn't run when it's not. I will definitely be talking more about the exhaust fan in another video. Thanks for watching!

      I've heard my husband call it that, so interesting. I'm not sure that it is a marine version. It's hard to discern some things about this boat. There is no log and I believe the builder salvaged some parts from old boats to build this one. Those parts have salt water damage, and I doubt that this boat has ever seen the ocean, so you can see why it would be difficult to put all the pieces together sometimes, lol. Thanks for watching!

    sorry, im not that familiar with your channel or what all you have done with your boat. first off, Bravo Zulu... your house boat is awesome. you mentioned solar power. does your engine have an alternator? if it does, you can build a battery bank connect it to the alternator then add a inverter (DC to AC) you could run a window a/c, watch tv, radio, etc.. when the engine is running, it will fully charge your batteries, or you could just idle for about 15 minutes and fully charge your batteries. there are tons of good videos on living off grid/rv. (check out some skoolie videos (school bus conversion to rv). im in the process of converting a school bus into a rv and im also designing a boat (small lcvp, "landing craft") i haven't decided if i want to add a living quarter to it yet...... maybe your videos will help me make up my mind. safe voyages.. and tell the little one to watchout for mermaids, they've been known to steal cookies :)

    How did you build the hull?

    • @ProverbsProductions
      @ProverbsProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wes m, I'm not the original builder. The boat was built in 1971, I think, by a speed boat builder in Kentucky as a custom order. He only built a few of these and as far as I know he was also the designer. The hull is fiberglass mat over marine grade plywood. Thanks for watching!

    • @ProverbsProductions
      @ProverbsProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-fx7bt9je3v the boat has a Chrysler slant six with no modifications, which should have about 145 horsepower. I dont even have a good guess on the weight. It was built on custom order by a speedboat builder in Kentucky in 1971, so there are no manufacturers specs available. Besides, the boat has undergone significant modifications in its lifetime and I'm certain that its weight has changed some. If I ever get the chance I could do some calculations based on the boats displacement, I might just do that. Thanks for the great questions!
