very helpful for a new golfer like myself! Now I understand the difference in wedges, now! Now I know what to look for when I go out and buy the wedges!!
I carry 4 wedges. 44 P w/8 b, 49 G w/12 b, 54 S w/14 b, 58 L w/10 b. That’s what works for me. I typically use the 54 with lots of bounce out of green side bunkers and if a flop is needed around green I use the 58 with a little less bounce.
Totally agree using 56 or higher for full shot for me is a disaster ! Gap 52 is very versatile and less prone to error ! 60 or higher is crazy for high handicappers ! Thanks !
Geat video- thank you. New player played primarily scrambles for work. Helped educate me because I thought my 56 wedge was my gap wedge- I’m not comfortable with my Ping Sandwedge (think its 52). I have practices with my 56 more- guess I need more with my 52 then.
my wedges are P(44*) G(49*) S(54*) L(58*) L2(62*) I do on occasion take a full swing with them all. The L2 is 40yds for over trouble. I know that can open the face to create more loft rather than having five clubs.
This isn't really wedge related, but....for those of us that have hearing problems, it would be nice if you would have recorded this in a better acoustical environment. It would have been much nicer in a smaller room w/ better acoustics since you weren't hitting balls or demonstrating technique, etc., that would require you to be in the larger room. Just a thought. Thanks! I always enjoy your videos.
Hello, great video. I have a PW from my iron set which is at 43.5. I want to add some wedge to my bag. Would you advise 48, 52, 56 or 50, 54, 58. Thank you
Hi, I have a ladies beginner 11-piece Strata set. The only wedge I have is a SW with a 54° loft. I am getting good with it and want to add another wedge, which one (or degree) should I add next?
@@USGOLFTVshow Thank you! I also noticed I have a 10.5° driver (I read that beginners should have a 12°+ driver). I do not feel comfy with driver yet. I have a 5 wood - 18° and 5H - 26°. I haven't use the 5 wood much but love the 5H (I prefer over 7 iron)...that said, do you suggest maybe getting 3 wood or what degree driver? Or just hitting the 5 wood off the tee?..I need something I feel more comfortable with hitting off the tee.
So I'm a beginner and stuck on what loft of pitching wedge to get. I got a Callway Strata 9-piece set off amazon that comes with a 55 degree SW but am unsure of my 9 iron and obviously the set did not come with a PW. Callaway discontinued the 9-piece set so I'm unable to pull the specs online. What loft angle would you recommend? I don't want to be too close in angle to my 9 iron. Would i be good with 46 or 48 degrees? Any feedback would be great. Thanks!
@@SilveryFoxster could be because of your swing. you may draw, (to the left), or fade, (to the right). This could also be because of cheap balls, like you said before.
Ive got a TaylorMade r7 pitch with a loft of 45. My TM ZTP gap is 50 loft with a 6 bounce. Sand at 54 with a bounce of 12. A lob of 58 and 9 bounce. Is that a good enough setup since i focus on the short range game. Also since that is my wedge setup should i keep it or change it up.
JoeyK yep, we like this set up. Good spacing in the lofts. If you do chip at all with the 50, make sure and open the face slightly which will give you a little more bounce and help with those tight lies...hope that helps. 👊
The club Should be over your neck it don't matter what angle, but if the club is too short you will slice it. Your knees slightly bent, leaning forward, back straight. Now swing for swiftness not strength. Now just practice.
Hi sir, I'm a new player. I just bought a pxg Gen 6 iron sets from Club 5-w. The W is 44º. I would like to buy a set of wedges also from pxg, most likely the sugar daddy 2. What's ur suggestions on the degrees i should choose?
Can you do a short video on golf terminology? Say for example "lob wedge" or "flop shot". Lots of unfamiliar terms and names in golf that we like to think we know what you're talking about but really don't.
Do you find yourself in those awkward ranges on the course in between your 52 and 58 degree clubs? The 6 degree difference seems wide to me. Would you recommend adding in a 54 or 56 degree club?
The fairways of the golfcourse where I play are very hard and a few months of the year are very dry. It’s almost imposible to make a divot. What bounce is better for fairways like that?? And for hard sand traps??
I got a question, what's the difference between a vintage pitching wedge and a more contemporary pitching wedge. I've noticed that older pitching wedges are around 48-49* and newer pw's are around 45-46*, is there a major difference other than just stronger loft??
Kevin, you are spot on. The manufactures have delofted all clubs these days to help people "hit" the ball further....marketing at its finest LOL. I wish they would just put lofts on the clubs not numbers....would make it easier.
I'm just getting into golf and a buddy told me to just pick up a used set from a pawn shop. So I did. In the bag was something called a drop wedge. What is that?
I have two wedges aside from PW. They're both Cleveland CBX wedges. One is a 54 degree and one is 60. I call the 54 my sand wedge and the 60 my lob wedge. And I use my 54 for sand and a lot of chip shots in general. Should I be trying my 60 in the sand more? Is my 54 really technically a gap or approach wedge as opposed to a SW or is all just semantics?
That is a high lofted lob wedge. Look up how to hit a flop shot. It’s best used around the green when you want to get the ball high up in the air and land on the green and stick with little to no roll out. I follow a page called “scratch golf academy” on here, great short videos with comprehensive content. Give it a look, he should have some videos posted on flop shots.
Point your upper hands thumb straight point you lower hands thumb to the side Wrap your upper hands pointing fingers around your lower hands pinky now if it's a driver turn it to the left, If it's a wedge don't turn your body Now practice all that congrats your are doing a lot better.
For the average golfer, think of an approach wedge and gap wedge as generally the same thing. These wedges fill that gap between your pitching wedge and sand wedge, and tend to be in the 50-54 degree range, depending on your spacing preference and the manufacturer. Hope that helps!
Have just purchased 3 wedges, this video has helped me so much, many thanks.

A lot of the stuff with wedges concerns with exactly how much golf do you actually play. The more you play, often you can develop more feel.
Great breakdown. Answered so many question 🤙🏽

You said, “bounce makes the shot easier.” What shot would you need more bounce, or what shot would need less bounce?
Great question. More bounce when playing out of sand that is soft and less bounce when the sand is firm. Make sense?
I was wondering why every time I used my PW it always ran right pass the hole😂😂😂
Lmaooo same
had me doing half swings and shit 😭
Just try hit front of green if it's a back pin, other wise I would use a lw personally but yet to really try a gw
Same bro😂 either I hit it passed or hit it 4 feet in front of me
Very well explained thanks 👍

For an average player (around 36), what would be the best set of lofts :
50, 54 and 58°
52 and 58° is enough

sand wedge and lob wedge are two different clubs with different lofts
Importantly the sand wedge generally has a lot more bounce than lob wedge which makes it easier in soft deep sand.
speedwayman100 yes...very true! Thanks for watching and taking time to comment
Where does approach wedge (AW) fall in this category?
Is there any tip for getting your 9 8 and 7 irons in the air
We have multiple videos on our channel to help with this. Also check our 👉 www.badliegolfbook.com/
For the sand wedge, are we hitting up on the ball or trying to hit the sand just before the ball? The website will not load for me.
We want to enter the sand roughly 1 inch behind the ball. Here is a good video to watch th-cam.com/video/pbKxGOLuAjY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0J1sZy-3Dj3afXZe

Lob and what is called a negative bounce wedge
