    Angel Season 4 is one of my favorite seasons of any television show, I love how that year it and Buffy went all in on long-form storytelling, they'd always done arcs of course and had a seasonal Big Bad but Buffy's war with the First was a near-perfect ending. Meanwhile a different apocalypse descends on LA, love it then the twist that it's a "happy" dystopia is clever because it counters The First's hate filled plans. But apart from the dichotomy between shows, I love that the season finally gave us an Angelus arc (and bonus for Faith's return) and even if The Beast was kind of an excuse to have that happen, he was a pretty cool "Big Bad" misdirect (better than Prof. Walsh or The Trio in Buffy) and the concept of Blotting out the sun is pretty epic. Although, I'll concede the "birthing pains"/"misdirection" explanation for the apocalyptic events was slightly cringe (even if it did fit the shows established magic system), the flashback sequences from Inside Out where the team deduce how "Cordy" has deceived them always gives me chills. That's not even mentioning Skip's explanation of the Beastmaster's scope and musings on "free will" or Gina Torres' portrayal of Jasmine, which is insane to think she was only in 4 eps.

      Dany-T was about the only thing that they did get right, and it had been foreshadowed for the entire season. It might have been handled a bit clumsily, and like everything else was rushed, but it wasn't out of character or out of nowhere.

    I remember people being so angry by the Dallas 'twist'! It had to be the LAZIEST tv writing ever. There were so many other ways they could have brought Bobby back, but they chose to make it all a dream! All the storylines from the previous year were immediately dropped, because it turned out they were all part of Pam's 'dream'! 😂😂😂 Dallas' biggest tv rival, 'Dynasty', then placed a full-page add of two characters in an unlikely romantic pose. The caption said: 'This is no dream.' Brilliant ad!

    • @irrevenant3

      In their defence, I don't think it was the cliche back then that it is now. Dallas is in part how people *learned* that "it was all a dream" is a twist best avoided.

  • @BrightNeonBrilliancy
    @BrightNeonBrilliancy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I wouldn't say GoT was a 'plot twist', just bad writing. Dany was always going down that road, it was just rushed. The REAL plot twist in GoT was that Bran became king. Which was just....no. Absolutely not. He literally doesn't care about anything or anyone. He should be lord of whispers, sure. But not a KING.

    • @irrevenant3
      @irrevenant3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't read the books. Based purely on the TV show there was no reason to expect her to go down that road. TV Dany had her flaws but none of those pointed towards her becoming the sort of person who would murder innocent civilians. Stuff like her alienating the (I think?) Tullys by going "join me or die" to catured soldiers, I totally buy. Dany has a very rigid sense of right and wrong. Which is exactly why the ending makes no sense.

    • @irrevenant3
      @irrevenant3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you think so? From what I've seen of his work, Drinker doesn't debate, he rambles. His 'points' are often superficial and fall apart if you're familiar with the details of what he's 'critiquing' and he often has a double standard where X is bad in things he dislikes and good in things he doesn't. (Example: A female character fighting and beating a male character is dumb and unrealistic. A male character single-handedly fighting and beating several (usually male) opponents is cool and badass).
      I'd be surprised if Drinker came out on top in an actual, proper point-by-point debate.

    • @The_Reality_Filter
      @The_Reality_Filter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@irrevenant3 damn bro, sounds like you watch a lot more Drinker than I do...and err yes a female character beating up a male is dumb and unrealistic. Remember when the female football world cup winning team got smashed 5-2 by a bunch of random under 15 year school boys. 🤣

    • @eldenvedetta635
      @eldenvedetta635 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@irrevenant3 You don't seem to comprehend the basic fact that men and women are different, and it's FAR more likely a man would beat a group of men, than a woman 😂 But if you were being honest you'd see how people love strong women when they make SENSE, like Wonder Woman has powers, so no one complains about her being able to beat up men. Ripley is bad-ass in Alien without needing to beat up a bunch of men.

    • @irrevenant3
      @irrevenant3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eldenvedetta635You misread my comment: I compared a woman beating up a single man vs a man beating up a whole bunch of other men. The latter is less realistic but gets no complaints.
      *Anyone* single-handedly beating up a bunch of competent opponents is highly implausible. Viewers don't criticise that, and nor should they - action movies aren't meant to be plausible.
      Having a weird double-standard where you expect the feats to be plausible for female main characters, while not caring how implausible they are for male main characters is weird. Obviously men and women are different. How is that relevant? The main character being unrealistically badass is the point of the genre.
      Also, jumping to "you don't seem to comprehend" and "if you were being honest" doesn't add anything to the conversation. Especially when you've miscomprehended the comment you're replying to.

    • @irrevenant3
      @irrevenant3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@The_Reality_FilterI've seen a handful of Drinker vids, which was enough to get a feel for how poorly he understand the stuff he was criticising. If you've seen even less, why are you going to bat for him winning in a debate? 😕
      And you've missed my point which is the double standard. Action films (especially hand-to-hand ones) aren't about realism. They're about their protagonist being unrealistically cool and badass. Is anyone in real life capable of realistically doing what John Wick or the guys from The Fast and the Furious do without ending up dead several times over? Of course not. That's fine, rule of cool. What's less fine is rule of cool suddenly apparently not being a thing if the protagonist is an implausibly hypercompetent woman rather than an implausibly hypercompetent man.
      PS. How some real-life women's football team did is the opposite of the point, but no I hadn't heard that. Do you have a source, please?

    I’m sorry, but the Gilmore Girls tv movies were worse than what was included here. They took all the Rory character development and flushed it down the toilet. Amy Sherman Palladino abandoned the original series at the end and then came back and said oh everything they did sucked. Well if you didn’t abandon the series in the original run then you could’ve done what you wanted.
    However, she returned for the tv movies, made Rory a cold character, had her also cheat on her bf, keeps stringing him along by saying oh I forgot to break up with him and got pregnant with someone else’s kid. Not that we will get a resolution. Amy has gotten lucrative offers to return but refuses to come back and won’t let anyone else finish the story. Sorry but if you didn’t want to give a solid resolution, then don’t come back at all. You made the show feel like a meaningless show. So I’m sorry, but she ruined the legacy with those tv movies and how she turned Rory into a cruel and careless character.

    Dany "snapped, in mere seconds." Well, do none of you idiots remember WHY she snapped? She witness her BEST FRIEND--quite literally the only person in her entire life she'd ever known and cared about who had absolutely NO ulterior motives in becoming close to Dany--be BRUTALLY KILLED IN FRONT OF HER EYES. For no reason other than Cersei's own sadism. Missandei had been taken captive by Cersei's forces and used as a pawn by Cersei basically to force Dany to surrender and recognize Cersei's rule. The "defenseless people of King's Landing" suffered no less than Missandei had suffered. I am SO tired of people *conveniently* forgetting that little aspect especially when they also seem to forget Dany was sold off by her brother (so *he* could get an army to make himself the king of Westeros) and then effectively *raped* by her "husband" on their "wedding night" and then witnessing the deaths of countless innocents when she was trying to end the hold of the slave traders over the course of the series (among the frequent betrayals by people she thought were supposed to be her friends and counselors). It's truly amazing that Dany hadn't "snapped" in earlier seasons. Maybe, it's just me. But *I* actually applauded when Dany "snapped." Watching her best friend be beheaded in front of her own eyes, and NOT reacting would've been the REAL sign she'd "snapped"--because she would've just been a sociopath, showing she didn't really care about anyone, that she was really just as bad as Cersei all along.
    I also dare the people who were upset at Dany's reaction to give ANY kind of reasonable response she should have had. SHE WAS AT WAR WITH CERSEI. And Cersei wasn't backing down--she was willing to let Westeros burn to the ground (or freeze to the ground--remember, she didn't offer any help in fighting off the Night King) as long as SHE was recognized as the one and only, rightful Queen of Westeros.

      Yes, we know why it happened. And we thoroughly understand Dany reacting badly. The *way* she reacted badly - i.e. mass-murdering a bunch of civilians - made no sense for her character. Especially with the Red Keep right there. If she was at war with Cersei and she was enraged at Cersei then why did she slaughter a bunch of random innocents rather than making a beeline for Cersei?

    I was mad at the final of “Mad About You” - it just took the series out of the comedy genre and instantly made everything so far very unfunny (for what was left after the casual infidelity reveal). And the “it was all just a dream” also ruined “Will and Grace”, even recently. Why would they build up the relationship between Grace and Leo and her own confidence and journey as a mother, only to clean it all for the sake of a new pregnancy? I just don’t get it…

  • @olandir
    @olandir 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The problem with the "How I Met Your Mother Ending" is that the writers painted themselves into a corner by deciding the ending very early on and not being willing to pivot when realizing that ending wouldn't work (which is a classic writer problem). What they should have done for the ending was this. Instead of the last season being the stupid wedding plot... the entire last season should have started with the mother "Tracy" suddenly interrupting Ted's story to his kids and going "let me tell you what really happened" and then the entire season being Tracy telling stories of how she "interacted" with the main cast in ways that weren't evident when told from Ted's point of view. Ted always hinted that the mother was around in places but he just didn't see her, so now we get to see her stories. That would endear us more to the mother character while seeing our main cast from a different point of view, and then that story leading all the way back up to Barney and Robin's wedding where Ted and the mother meet for the first time and then fall in love as we see Barny and Robin get married. BOOM, done. Perfect ending.

    The entire show of Lost was terrible

    The Dawn storyline in Buffy was an awful twist. Chris being Pipers son from the future was dumb too on Charmed.

      I thought the Dawn storyline was brilliant honestly, though I would have loved a flashback episode so we could see past seasons from the alt timeline of having Dawn there lol be interesting to see what would have changed.

      What was awful about the Dawn storyline?

      @@irrevenant3 Dawn was a plot device to kill off Joyce. Joyce had a brain aneurysm due to the memory spell to create Dawn. She stuck around and added little value to the show. If Dawn had died at the end of season 5, it wouldn't have changed the trajectory or story of the show. So she added nothing to the show and she was obnoxious.

      @@kmallory100 That's a fan theory. There's nothing to outright contradict it if you want to keep it as headcanon, but it's not indicated by the show itself and would arguably weaken the story if true.
      Dawn added tons to the show, not least that it means Joyce's death catapaults Buffy from being a child cared for by her mother to suddenly being the one responsible for raising a child. That's a massive life change and it had massive impacts on Buffy.

      @@irrevenant3 Again, if you remove Dawn after season 5, the shows story still wouldn't have been affected. She was irrelevant and obnoxious.
