  • I found a like new set of used American racing wheels for sale that I just couldn't pass up. They were exactly what I want for the car, and I wanted to fit them to make sure that they would clear everything while I still have the chance to make changes to the car. I wasn't sure if I would need to relocate the leaf springs, but as you'll see everything fit up just fine.
    Wheel specs:
    15x7 American Racing Torq Thrust D wheels
    5 on 4.75 bolt pattern
    3.75" backspace
    Cooper Cobra Radial GT tires , 255/60R15

    Man thank you for this video! I have a 57 wagon and I’m trying to fit 255/70/15’s on it and I just installed 2 inch lowering blocks and I could not figure out how this was going to work and I saw your video.

    The wheels and stance look great. I also have a 55 and researching what the largest tire that fit in the stock wheel well. Thanks for mentioning you have 255x60x15. I'm going to do the same size on mine. Thanks very much.

      I wish my wheels had 1/2” more backspace. That would make them perfect.

      Same here.. I put 275/60/15 Cooper Cobras, 15x10 American Torque Thrust on my 84' Dodge Ram D150 and they fit & look awesome. 🇺🇸

    Looks good! I did similar on my 56. Only years ago, I added 5 leaf station wagon springs, and some Gabriel Hijackers for a little extra adjustment if needed. Has been that way for 50 years I have owned the car. I added slapper traction bars, Lakewood I think, and had to trim them a little for tire clearance. No biggie. Got the same tires as you. Keep up the good work! :)

    Leave it as it is, the wheel radius is great, and don't cut the tubs or move the springs, I see too many altered applications.

  • @brentmclovin9332
    @brentmclovin9332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It looks great like it is. A radiused wheel opening would be nice if you ever needed to change your tire, and it would also look good. But like you said, it would be hard to cut up a good quarter.

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems to be the consensus! I’m leaving them intact. Thanks!

  • @t-rodzgarage

    LEAVE IT JUST LIKE IT IS . TOO MANY PEOPLE RUIN THEIR CARS CUTTING THEM UP AND PUTTING ON NON ERA CORRECT WHEELS AND TIRES.

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve decided to keep the quarters as they are. Thanks!

    So Josh. The 3.75” back spacing-translates to a -6 backspace? Wheel companies seem to make it difficult. This -5, -6, backspace on the websites is aggravating. Looks great anyway! Good luck with the rest of your Tri Five project. 👍🏻

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, why not make it simple? I got mine gently used off a guy with a 66 Chevelle, so I just got what he had. Shopping was driving me nuts.

    What is the back spacing and wheel width on the new wheels I have a 55 as well, thats why I am asking

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In description. 3.75 backspace on 15x7

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If possible I would recommend a 7” wheel with 4” backspace. There is extra room between the wheel and inner frame/leaf springs and that will give extra clearance to the fender.

  • @oceanaway5514
    @oceanaway5514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You run 255s all 4 corners or just the back?
    What’s the width and offset on the rims?

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same front and rear. Wheels are 15x7 with 3-3/4 inch backspace. I’d recommend a 4 inch if possible to move the wheel in a little, but I bought these used on a good deal so I went with them. I considered going 235’s on front but the tire shop didn’t have the matching type in that size.

    • @oceanaway5514
      @oceanaway5514 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, thanks! Your car looks great with the torque thrusts, keep up the good work, I’ll be following.

    What wheel backspacing? I have a friend who has 15x8 wheels with 275 60 15 tires on the rear of his 55 Bel Air. The wheel backspacing is 4 1/2 inches.

    • @55TwoTen
      @55TwoTen  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      3.75 inches. If it was sucked in more like you mentioned with 4.5 then a 275 60 might fit. 255 is the limit with what I have. I did buy the wheels second hand from a guy who had them on a Chevelle so they aren’t optimized for the 55 as far as size.

    • @elijah2078
      @elijah2078 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@55TwoTen I was thinking that was probably what you have as far as backspacing. I have the same 3.75 backspacing with my 15x8 wheels on the rear of my 55 Bel Air but with 235 60 15 tires. Those wheels and tires look great on your car!!!
