Getting To The Bottom Of Who ACTUALLY Makes This Zeroo Watch!

  • I reviewed this Zeroo T7 The Archer on my main channel and a number of people in the comments section claimed this watch housed a Chinese movement and was made in China. I reached out to the brand for clarification and after a number of emails were exchanged, I have the answer.

    WHY I OFTEN DON'T MENTION OTHER BRANDS IN MY VIDEOS.
    You may have noticed that I often don't mention the original brands that watches I am reviewing pay homage to. This is very intentional and not meant to offend you or the original brands. I lost my first channel in October 2020 which I had spent 9 months growing and invested a significant amount of money in simply because I had mentioned the original brands in some of my videos. There are people who try to use TH-cams lack of understanding when it comes to the difference between homage watches and fake watches to attack other channels and their owners and sadly I fell foul of this in 2020. This channel was also attacked recently and TH-cam deleted content simply because I had said 'subby homage' and 'Rolex homage' in two videos despite the watches in the videos being perfectly legal homage watches. Please understand that I can not afford to risk my channel so I will no longer be mentioning other brands when reviewing homage watches.

    These days, it seems like almost everything is manufactured in China. The crucial aspect to consider is the QC. As long as the materials are good and the QC is well executed, everything else becomes insignificant

    I think it would be in their best interests to send you more of their watches.
    You are honest about your reviews and you told them honest conserns from people who love watches.
    Asking for clarity is the best way for them show off.
    Style with engineering in a package being truly Japanese built regardless of where parts are sourced. In house movement.
    If I could I would buy this watch just because if i have questions about before purchasing will be answered.
    You deserve to review another.

    It's nice that they are offering the watch without the branding on the crystal, but I noticed they are offering a smaller discount for the unbranded units, 25% compared to 38% for the regular units. Meaning they effectively are charging you 450 USD to omit the logo.

    Thanks Gary. It's great to see a brand quickly responding to customer concerns. As I said I'm not a skeleton fan but loads of people are and it's a nice watch for people who like those watches!. The only thing about unusual movements is repairability locally. I had a Ciga, not a cheap watch, it was in the early days of that company. They weren't interested in repairing it after it broke and I couldn't find a watch maker to fix it because he couldn't replace the broken part. I think, given what you've been told that the watch is fine. If I was to be a buyer of this watch I would want more information on how easy this watch is to be repaired after the warranty period is up.

    I think I have found one of their previous watches on the web openly stating that they are using a Chinese movement. Basing your own design on an existing movement is absolutely fine, and there are many examples of that. It is just that the tourbillon is a piece of tech that in Japan only Grand Seiko has the technology to develop, and the Chinese have many widely available of various quality levels. Again this is absolutely fine.

    • @ILikeWatches2
      @ILikeWatches2  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

  • @melvinleok
    @melvinleok 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think it would be naive to think that a small independent can commission a custom tourbillon movement from China, produce it in small quantities and still afford to sell it for $2K. At best, it is a lightly modified existing calibre, probably with a bit more skeletonization. The standards for the "Made in Japan" labeling is even less stringent than the "Swiss Made" label, and you should basically expect that almost all the components are made in China, and maybe final assembly or at least quality control is done in Japan.

    I'm glad they responded to you and I hope they work with you in the future. I think we're generally cynical because we are used to watch brands being very opaque (or dishonest) about the origin of manufacture and assembly, and so our instinct is that ALL watch brands must be dishonest. I think it is a testament to the quality and value this watch represents that some of your viewers consider it "too good to be true."

  • @pageophile
    @pageophile 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So they made a tourbillon movement in Japan and the whole watch only costs 2k? That seems unbelievable. I thought designing new movements cost exorbitant amounts of money.
    Is this the Christopher Ward effect? Are their margins just substantially slimmer than others in the industry?

      There was a US study of manufacturing costs that broke everything down and the difference between making an iPhone in the US and China wasn't as big as claimed. My think is It's not like Zeroo are somehow turning out this watch for a few hundred $. The movement may be partially unusual but it's not made of unusual materials or incredibly light/thin/accurate which would all affect the manufacturing/ QA failure and therefore price.

    I'm guessing they based their design for the movement based on an older pocket watch movement, which would explain the size (my guess, the design was mostly on skeletizing it, maybe the double barrels).
    So yeah, they can say they designed the thing and how Chinese companies just reverse engineered the design, they have the original movement too.

      They better NOT make more than 50, as they are advertizing it as a limited edition and asking quite a premium for it. The Indiegogo "donation" for a sterile front crystal version (not unbranded, just without the huge white text on the crystal) is even more than the retail price of the normal version in Japan. Then again, will they skirt the rules by making 50 of each colour combo?

    It's hard to design a watch that doesn't have any element of any other watch without creating an absolute turd or something so outlandish that it will only appeal to a handful of customers. After a century of watches it is a bit of a "Simpsons did it!" situation.
    Good thing they decided to do away with the name on the sapphire, it's just too much. A guilded logo, or some other small thing, might have worked but this distracts too much from the overall design.
    Personally I'm not too hung up about parts produced in China. If I would be, I'd probably have to walk everywhere my entire life.
    It's out of my price range but luckily it's too big for me anyway. If it had been a 39 or 40 mm watch it would have been more annoying.

    The research, development, design, construction & assembly are all Japanese. Therefore the watch is too.

    • @peetiegonzalez1845

      It matters because China is notorious for making good-looking knockoff products that are absolutely atrocious when it comes to actual quality control and aftercare. Also because Zeroo themselves admit that up to the T8 and now T7, all their watches were basically made in China, they were just responsible for design and QC. It's only very recently they got an actual watchmakers workshop up and running to conduct their own assembly and testing. All this is written on their IndieGoGo page and on their Japanese crowdfunding campaign site. They should make a bigger deal of it on their main site, but they simply gloss over it because it would likely hurt their existing lineup. Some of which, frankly, looks like cheap rubbish and is priced accordingly. It does remind me of Christopher Ward in some ways. Finally hit the bigtime but have an existing legacy of experimental cheap look-alikes they'd probably rather we forget about.

  • @mikesmith5389
    @mikesmith5389 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The thing you need to ask is is $2100 overpriced and I would say most definitely. Regarding the origin I'm still skeptical, manufacturers of cheap Tourbillons have the whole movement made in China, probably by Peacock, and shipped wherever the final assembly is. Secondly Tourbillons in wrist watches is completely unnecessary. It does nothing for the accuracy of the watch or have any significant benefits, it's purely cosmetic and I repeat what I've said before that if they can knock at least $1,000+ off the price at launch then it's way overpriced to start with, which again suggests it's almost entirely made in China as the Labour costs in Japan would make it significantly more expensive. Then there's the name, if I was dropping that much on a watch I would want a name that I knew and trusted not a weird and wonderful name that is difficult to pronounce. If they fob you off with half truths then it's bull💩.
