    I had a warning light on my dash and I didn't want to just go into a mechanic blind, your video helped me out with how to use the thing because the included literature doesn't help a new user like myself. I sought out Autel because I have seen many videos with mechanics raving about their devices, so when I saw this device on Amazon for around 30 bucks I snatched it right up.

    After much research, your video is the most informative so far on this tool. And you’re right, the price is great for what you’re getting. It’s important to note that Autel writes their own software unlike other inexpensive brands that “borrow” the software.

    Good video. Did you have the car running or the ignition on? Just received an AL319 scanner, no instructions or setup sheet. Maybe an omission at the factory? After a couple of failed attempts, the device asked if the ignition was on. It wasn't. Turn on the ignition, and the device worked well.

    So I see Autel has multiple different scanners from this "class/grade of scanner (DIY)". Each model is not much more $ than the last...so in short, is there any major advantage in models for typical home DIY mechanic? I don't mind spending more if it is leaps and bounds more effective tool than the cheapest/lowest grade model. I'm referring to what Autel refers to on there website category as "DIY scanner". There are 26 models in that class alone and the comparison feature is not working on their site. Does each model really do something better than the last? I don't mind having to google the codes/they don't need to be a full written definition within the unit itself. Also this scanner is what I would consider shockingly cheap at $50 bucks...but is this just a surface level toy to give you a taste? If I went with Autel and was willing to spend 100 or even 200, how much better would those models be? I'd rather buy a model Autel is going to stick behind and continue to update software for and have a scanner that can last for "life"/ at least a few years if not a decade or more/ until OBD3 or some crap is implemented in cars. What are the major differences from the most expensive DIY scanner vs the Service Tool class vs the Advanced Analysis System class of scanners? www.auteltech.com/c/www/diagnostictools.jhtml.

      You can do it with just the battery on, but you can also do it with the car running. For live data I imagine the car running would be preferable.

    Todd, I enjoyed this offering, thank you! Question. Why would a person need one of these instruments if they are not mechanics or know little about vehicle repair? Is this more just a time saving tool for when you take your vehicle in? Thank you....RM

    • @ToddsGarage
      @ToddsGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi RM, thanks for watching! I think it's good to have a tool like this even if you don't repair your vehicle because you can have a better idea of what's going on with your vehicle by retrieving the trouble codes. Then you can use that information when talking to mechanics to shop around for their knowledge and price. Also great to use IM Readiness before you get your emissions Test. Thanks again for watching, glad you liked the video!

      It can also be a cash saver with small repairs. My wife's BMW E46 is always breaking down. She got a check engine light. We brought it to a shop that charged us 100 bucks just for the scan and then another 80 bucks to fix a simple problem (one of the ignition coils needed replacing). I could've bought this scan tool for 30 bucks and done the repair myself. Probably wouldn't have cost more than 50 bucks total, but that's hindsight now. :p

      RED LED - Indicates there is a problem in one or more of the vehicle’s systems. The red LED is also used to show that DTCs are present. DTCs are shown on the scan tool’s display. In this case, the MIL on the vehicle’s instrument panel will light steady on.
