And the funny part is that it actually means "wh0re" but it's totally okay in our culture. We also often say "putain de merde" wich means "sh1tty wh0re"...
@@mesajam4894 Mostly because when you're in pain, you will say "putain" spontaneously. To say "punaise" you need to think about it (at least, it's the case for me)
i lived with french people in london, my favourite variation was the “ahhhhh you suck, you made me jump” variation, which goes something like “AH PU-tain…”, very loud and then suddenly very quiet, with a lot of muttered vulgarities, to soothe 🤣 i’m a relatively quiet walker, most of the time, and my housemates were blessing everything when i broke my foot and they could hear me coming from miles away 🤣🤣 i still managed to make them jump, but that’s besides the point and, in my opinion, should not have been possible 😅😬
It reminds me that a trio of French comedians called "Les Inconnus" (The Unknowns) made a parody of a movie scene, using only "putain," "merde," and "fait chier" as dialogue. Worst of all, it makes perfect sense 😂.
True BUT their is two other meaning ^^ if you use it to describe someone it means prostitute AND if you add "sale" or "grosse" in front it's meant to insult a woman who isn't a prostitute but act like one (maybe the same as whore i'm not sure) Love your channel it's very funny as a French to ear your adventures in learning french.
I'm french and have an indian workmate who wanted to try saying putain out of context, and when he did i just noded my head and said "ouais hein!", and he began to laugh so much for ten minutes straight xD
C'est quand même grossier. Selon les classes sociales, ce sera plus ou moins utilisé. Je connais beaucoup de personnes qui bannissent ce mot de leur vocabulaire ; de fait, je l'entends de moins en moins.
Euh Ça n'est pas une bonne idée que d'inviter les gens à utiliser ce mot. En réalité c'est l'exact équivalent du F word. Aucun français n'est fier de le dire...
Ahah je confirme, on l’utilise à toutes les sauces
Honestly I feel "fuck" is just as versatile in English. "Fuck", "fuck it", "fuck yeah", "fuck no" can be used in such a wide variety of ways
Hahaha j'adore ces expression facial et le ton . Ca change tout du mot.
The most versatile French word haha
La meilleure explication du « putain » de l’histoire de l’humanité
🤣🤣🤣 merci
Unfortunately, this is absolutely true
😂😂😂
That's right, we basically can use it in any sort of situtation
Kinda like the Turkish "hasiktir" (oh, f*ck) that can mean a pleasant surprise, unpleasant surprise, disbelief, admiration, dismissal....
And the funny part is that it actually means "wh0re" but it's totally okay in our culture. We also often say "putain de merde" wich means "sh1tty wh0re"...
The first time I heard the word, I immediately figured out what it meant because it sounded a lot like puta. I grew up with Mexicans. 😂
Use «punaise» as a family friendly alternative (if you want to). 😊
or "purée" but "purée" et "punaise" will only work with positive emotions. If you are in pain you will never use those words
@ D‘accord ! What about « mince ! » ?
@ "Mince" is like a family friendly alternative for "merde" that you use when you are annoyed, or if you fail at something

Really useful thanks 😂
😂😂😂 you’re welcome ahahaha
Excellent, j'ai tellement rigolé
Genial! These are things Duolingo will never teach me.
It's just the french version of the F word.
Same way the F word is used in English. :) Cool. Thanks for explaining.
le pire, c'est que la dernière phrase résume parfaitement le mot 😂
Omg imagine getting exited or admiring something and just shouting "wh*re !"

You may be thinking of "pute" 🤔
That's an acting class thing right ? 😂
Now I can say it in 4 languages lol😂😂😂😂
AHAHA perfect 😂🤗
my younger brother used to shout "putain putain putain" as a 2-year-old when we were changing his diapers 💀
I'm french and have an indian workmate who wanted to try saying putain out of context, and when he did i just noded my head and said "ouais hein!", and he began to laugh so much for ten minutes straight xD
OMG 😂😂😂
Très belle prononciation du p word😂
Uh oh! I would be careful saying Putain in polite company!

I mean i guess this is the same with the English word "f*ck".
Oui, mais alors rappeler le sens premier du mot !! Qui choque quand même encore pas mal !
Oh putain ! 😮
Tout à fait d'accord.
Il ne faut pas "vulgariser" ce mot. Ça n'est pas de l'argot, c'est juste... vulgaire. "Un gros mot", quoi. Bien pire que m.....
@@mariepascale6921 le sens des mots évolue, aujourd'hui "p*tain" n'est plus du tout utilisé pour son sens d'origine, comme "con"
Exactly like 'blyat' in russian
Now do "bordel"
So it's an equivalent to "coaie" in romanian
Putain mais c'est vrai ça ! 😅
😂😂😂
But what does the word actually mean?
Puinese😂
