A month ago I finished the older OBDR from Lakeview, OR to Walla Walla, Wa. This was the longest motocamping adventure I'd take. 2 years pervious we did a weekend motocamp which was my first. Having said that, at times I struggled with the extra weight on mostly 2-track and a few ATV trails.
I can't imagine what that's like on a singletrack. I give you all credit for doing those trails! The sidehill with luggage would be brutal for me. I would have been in pucker mode on that tore up short downhill bit too! How come you had to be towed? It is sad to see so much burnt forest though but other than that I love watching the ride so far!

Over the years I have gradually refined my luggage setup to better reduce and distribute weight. It does take some getting used to, and normally we avoid single track with luggage. On day 4 we rode some fun single track without luggage. I really wanted to ride the Butcher Knife trail, and that one was pretty easy with luggage, for the most part. The Divide trail, however, was quite difficult and we all had some serious pucker moments. None of us want to ride that trail again - even without luggage. But Butcher Knife / Divide made a great shortcut, and a couple of bikes were limited on fuel capacity. At camp we figured out that I had a clogged fuel filter. Years ago I installed a cleanable filter, but have never bothered to clean it. Lesson learned.

Wow, looks fun. Well, except the part about your bike running poor.

I thought the Frank Church Wilderness of No Return was a non-motorized area, I.E. nothing mechanical, even a bicycle?

That is correct. That is why we rode around it - not through it.
