I love the theory that we just want to ignore pop culture. literally my favorite graphic tee is this shirt I found thrifting with just a guy's face poorly photoshopped over a news anchor's body in black and white. it was from custom ink so apparently someone took the time out of their day to make this and then donate it but it is seriously so cool

I'm not entirely against graphics, i'm just against bad graphics (which is most stuff these days). I think streetwear graphics, especially since the 2016's has just become a dead horse. The way you describe it "childish dated section of fashion" literally hits the nail on the head. There is such a large saturation of graphic tee's and hoodies that streetwear and fashion in a way became dependant on it being cool, or became a substitute for kids/young adults thinking they could dress, even though all they did was put on a corny graphic tee. Not to mention streetwear brands posing as "designer brands" upselling their graphic tee's for hundreds of dollars and their content not consisting of any actual good design elements. Streetwear brands dependent on graphics are like soundcloud rappers, they survive on trends. The only good graphic clothing, is the clothing that has been circulating in fashion for years. - - OG designers like Jun Takahashi, Takahiro Miyashita, Raf Simons, Rick Owens maybe, people who understand what good design looks like, as well as most vintage clothing, band tee's etc.

If you read the rest of my comment I also include that most good design also comes from vintage clothing as well as band tee's, etc. Man you people really have a hard on for hostility lmao. I don't even care about designer graphic clothing, I just listed designers that have had a good track record for creating good graphics, rather than the copy+paste garbage we get today. If you are smart and you want good graphic clothing you would realize designer graphic clothing are usually cash grabs and vintage wear is the where your money well be best spent. Only TH-camrs are gonna send $50+ on 2 shirts. $50 can get you 20+ basic color shirts. Same with shoes. People are just gonna keep wearing Crocs, Vans or Converse because it's easy and doesn't break the bank. NORMAL people don't wear New Balance or Balenciaga because the shoes costs well over $100. I washed it about 50 times and got so many compliments on that hat. It was just some local crane company's hat that some guy lost in the canal while working but it was awesome.

The only issue is it's so hard to find an amazing graphic, fit and color all in one. I do like the somewhat recent focus there has been on the latter two, but hope we see this more in the graphic tee world too. Some regular/classic fits look great on a size or two up, though, that's always an amazing find too.
Also, side note, can we get some more tie dye up in here? I'm not saying everyone should be a rainbow, maybe just a single dye or some very closely analogous ones, some bleach on dark. I like no pattern/graphic too, but I always feel like I gotta go crazy with accessories/color palette/texture/shape to get something cool going.

@@s-wo8781 Tie dye is pretty damn versatile, and retro game graphics are a very cool addition. I really recommend the Vans classic burst tee aquatic too, pretty easy to work with but it pops, for me it's still 50% off at 25 bucks on the main site.
The possibilities get REALLY crazy when you learn to tie dye yourself, I might pick it up at some point. I'd be excited to try it on a Uniqlo Airism oversized tee, this makes finding cool fit and pattern combos so much easier.
Also, Trippy Thoughts Tie Dye Tee (I have green) by Vans has a cool graphic on the back, which is nice to spruce up outfits that lack layering, comes in handy in the summer. Also got this one 50% off on the same shipment

i dont know if you will see this, but i love your videos and this one was really interesting from a person who basically watched this whole cycle play out firsthand:
my first job out of college was at a small streetwear company that mainly sold to zumiez/tillys/spencer's. before i was hired as a graphic designer in 2019, 90% of their sales came from stickers and apparel that were unfunny logo rips or pop culture references. this was around the time when "streetwear" as we knew it back then (and as you mentioned in your video) was getting really popular. when i was hired, i moved the brand away from copyright/IP-heavy graphics and more into what you mentioned in your video-- focusing less on pop culture references and leaning more into what was trending in high fashion, (psychedelia, acid graphics, anime girls, etc.) we were really successful and transitioned mostly out of pop culture stuff early 2020 because of that. i got laid soon after. as far as im aware now, they still dont have a graphic designer and are still stuck in the loop of selling the same kind of stuff i designed for them 2 years ago-- rendering them untrendy and ugly bc they dont see whats actually trending in fashion right now. i take some pride in knowing that they suck without me informing their decisions

Love the video. Vintage t-shirt graphics are not self aware, as are most DIY graphics from the 20th century. Even the corporate graphics from pre-internet, beepers and landline phones times are not meant to feel post modern, they have that authenticity you just can’t fake. Most newer graphic designs are painfully self aware and ironic, they make my eyes roll out the back of head.
