Playing it again, 10 or so years later, and this time on the PC. This time in 4K and on a big 65" screen, 2 HD texture mods, upscaled cutscenes mod with better sound, and a nice Reshade to top it off...and the game is just gorgeous. I don't think I have hardly ever seen a game age this good. Simply amazing. Loving every moment of it!!

It's funny you say this because Japanese FF fans thought that the game was very generic and cliché lol. I also think it's very unique but it's interesting that Westerners ended up liking the game more than the people it was originally made for.

The best part of this game is its dynamic and fast paced battle system It is so addictive . this game is also similar to FPS like call of duty or halo in terms of linerity. most of FPS games are as linear as this one, yet they do not complain about the lineraty.
ff 13 is more than a game. It had a long lasting impact on my heart. Spent best days of my life joining lightening and the fellows on their journey to save cacoon.

I absolutely loved this game. It has a great story, incredible characters, hands down the best voice acting of any FF game, one of the best soundtracks of it's time, incredible visuals, great combat mechanics, and is genuinely interesting. My only complaints would be that a couple of chapters were too grindy and there wasn't much to explore until chapter 11. (X was more linear than XIII, though.) Besides those things, I thought it was great. Same goes for XIII-2. Not Lightning Returns, though. That one had a gigantic drop-off in overall quality from the first 2 games. Pretty sure they used up too much of their budget on the first 2. If XIII wasn't as gindy, and had more interesting locations to explore, I would consider it a masterpiece. For now, I consider it great. (A step below masterpiece and a step above very good.) P.S. I just want to add that 90% of people who say FFXIII is a bad game have never even picked it up. I've met a good number of people who have tried telling me it's terrible. So I ask them simple things about the beginning of the game, like "What happened to Hope's mom?" or "What's Lightning's sister's name?" and 9 out of 10 times they have no clue. Then they get mad because they were found out for having fraudulent opinions based on absutely nothing. I seriously don't get people like that.

A good remaster/remake for this would be like this formula: Story (no change needed) Exploration (just add a few extra exploration details om each chapter) Battle (FFVII remake)
Personally, I'd love to see some extra flashbacks to Lightning's childhood. Like, what she used to be like before the death of her parents. It would give her more depth. Some NPC dialogue would be nice too.

I came here knowing nothing of the game despite it being out for a few years. I actually prefer hack and slashers as opposed to ATBs, but I still find FF7 to be an absolute classic and joy to play despite it being ATB. If the story in this is anything like I’m seeing in the comments I may pick it up
For a 2009 game, Square Enix fully utilize the power of PS3 and i was shocked how great the graphics are at that time. I also remembered the file size is 39GB for a PS3 game. Played this game 3-4 times until i obtained the platinum trophy. Sad that there's no remaster for PS4, only Xbox.
The graphics are still very beautiful because once upon a time video games were made with great care, dedication and originality, so with work and intelligence some limits imposed by the hardware were masked and circumvented. For example, Shenmue is still very good today because it was created with a lot of work way back in 1998. Today no Switch game reaches the graphics of FFXIII and even on average many other games are graphically sloppy and banal. Then also, despite a certain idea today, 2009 was a modern and advanced period. If anything, today there is a crisis and even 14-year-old games like Alan Wake on Switch are being recycled.

Most of the cutscenes, like the ones at the beginning, were well... thought out and designed. It was one of the best points for me. And they still look amazing even now.

Same, I've never been a huge fan of FF. I guess since I've matured as a gamer, these games appeal to me more now. My first FF was FFXIV, loved it but fell off because of the subscription. FFVII is great, but hard to play now a days because of the visuals. I don't like FFXV tbh... but I want to play FFX/X2, FFXII, and FFXIII on my PS4.

Welcome to the logic of people. There are only a handful of humans capable of realising that FFVII is NOT an amazing game. It was pretty average, but kind of innovative when it came out. Then FFVIIR happened, and again, it's just average. Not bad. But not amazing. And yes, the argument of "it's linear" is pretty stupid. 90% of RPGs are mostly linear cause, guess what, they tell a story. There are exceptions, and there's open world, but MOSTLY they're linear. People hated this cause linear. They hated FFX cause linear and romance. Well...pretty much every FF is linear, so...
I found it funny how you missed that one chest even though the game showed you where it was. Watching this makes me remember how horribly inefficient auto-battle is compared to doing the commands manually. No matter, still really like this game.
A lot of people complain that FF13 was too linear, yet people don't realize that's EVERY FUCKING GAME. They just do a good job hiding the fact that it's linear.
Uhh, no they didn't. In FF13 you literally walk one long enemy-filled pathway until you reach the next cut scene. No missions, no exploring...just separate pathways (of the same one big pathway) all leading to the same boss fight or cut scene. The game doesn't finally open up until the last few chapters and by that time, its already too late to really care as much.

FFXIII is like the "Call of Duty" of the saga, just one way forward, run and fight, run and fight... sure is a gorgeus game and the battle/class system is interesting, but lacks of the other rpg elements that builds a good rpg game. Still, it's a good entry for anyone to the series and it's fun to watch the gameplay.
This game has stunning visuals, high-quality voice acting, and just really good production value. I'm just not a fan of turn-based combat in games as well put together like this. Say what you will, but I really believe that the future of Final Fantasy games is open world free combat. Look at FF XV, and look at FF VII remake. Change can be mind-boggling, but it's necessary in order to progress through different times. I really don't think the classic Final Fantasy turned based combat formula will last forever.
Can't say that, is weird for the FF series, because some games from the same dev stands up with the turn based combat, like Dragon Quest XI which was a success or Octopath Traveler, both AAA games. What i can say is, in those games you can see they'd put a lot of love for making it but, the FF series lacks the same love and care they used to give in the past.
It still looks amazing in 1080p tbh. I didn't use any mods and just finished a PC playthrough. The 1080p version has a noticeable difference un backgrounds over the PS3 version, but FMV cutscenes look the same tbh

@@abajama Xbox 360 version... Not even remastered. It will still have low graphic settings and 30fps... Just upscaled to 4k (on Xbox one X not the other Xboxes) that's it. PC version best max settings and 60fps 4k
FF13 was a good game, I enjoyed playing it. Yes, it wasnt as great as 7,9,10 or even 8 but atleast it was a well rounded story unlike FFXV which is my least favourite in the franchise. (Too many plot holes in that game and no party diversity)
I'll admit the combat doesn't get good until they unleash the Paradigm system. For a casual player, it might be a bit tedious but for players who enjoy the strategy and breakdown of their enemies, it's a blast.

There are only a handful of humans capable of realising that FFVII is NOT an amazing game. It was pretty average, but kind of innovative when it came out. Then FFVIIR happened, and again, it's just average.

And yes, the argument of "it's linear" is pretty stupid. 90% of RPGs are mostly linear cause, guess what, they tell a story. There are exceptions, and there's open world, but MOSTLY they're linear. People hated this cause linear. They hated FFX cause linear and romance. Well...pretty much every FF is linear, so...

I found it funny how you missed that one chest even though the game showed you where it was. Watching this makes me remember how horribly inefficient auto-battle is compared to doing the commands manually. No matter, still really like this game.
A lot of people complain that FF13 was too linear, yet people don't realize that's EVERY FUCKING GAME. They just do a good job hiding the fact that it's linear.

Uhh, no they didn't. In FF13 you literally walk one long enemy-filled pathway until you reach the next cut scene. No missions, no exploring...just separate pathways (of the same one big pathway) all leading to the same boss fight or cut scene. The game doesn't finally open up until the last few chapters and by that time, its already too late to really care as much.
How did this game come out in 2009? I used to play this in my childhood and it is just fantasically fun and beautiful.

@@danfou6564 no this is PC version max setting graphics at 4k 60fps. Also Xbox One X version is still the Xbox 360 version low graphics settings and 30fps upscaled to 4k

FFXIII is like the "Call of Duty" of the saga, just one way forward, run and fight, run and fight... sure is a gorgeus game and the battle/class system is interesting, but lacks of the other rpg elements that builds a good rpg game. Still, it's a good entry for anyone to the series and it's fun to watch the gameplay.
This game has stunning visuals, high-quality voice acting, and just really good production value. I'm just not a fan of turn-based combat in games as well put together like this. Say what you will, but I really believe that the future of Final Fantasy games is open world free combat. Look at FF XV, and look at FF VII remake. Change can be mind-boggling, but it's necessary in order to progress through different times. I really don't think the classic Final Fantasy turned based combat formula will last forever.

Can't say that, is weird for the FF series, because some games from the same dev stands up with the turn based combat, like Dragon Quest XI which was a success or Octopath Traveler, both AAA games. What i can say is, in those games you can see they'd put a lot of love for making it but, the FF series lacks the same love and care they used to give in the past.

It still looks amazing in 1080p tbh. I didn't use any mods and just finished a PC playthrough. The 1080p version has a noticeable difference un backgrounds over the PS3 version, but FMV cutscenes look the same tbh
it feels so weird seeing the game in that much hd , then I remember the pc version of the game is godly in that way lol

FFXIII is already my favourite FF game. However, it has a couple flaws and deserves a remake. As a result, FFXIII'S Remake fix should be:
FFXIII Original story, world and characters.
FFXIII-2 battle system. 7 Remake is nowhere as good as FFXIII'S original battle system to begin with, 7 Remake is flashy but way too easy also AI barely does shit.
Lastly, FFXIII-3 Free Roaming and questing minus the timer system they had for that game.
A combination of these three elements will make the already good FFXIII even greater and haters will have to love it. Still waiting for it to come out on PS4.....do we need a petition?

@@abajama Xbox 360 version... Not even remastered. It will still have low graphic settings and 30fps... Just upscaled to 4k (on Xbox one X not the other Xboxes) that's it. PC version best max settings and 60fps 4k

FF13 was a good game, I enjoyed playing it. Yes, it wasnt as great as 7,9,10 or even 8 but atleast it was a well rounded story unlike FFXV which is my least favourite in the franchise. (Too many plot holes in that game and no party diversity)

I'll admit the combat doesn't get good until they unleash the Paradigm system. For a casual player, it might be a bit tedious but for players who enjoy the strategy and breakdown of their enemies, it's a blast.
