Kar 98k was just overall a better design, and it was faster to cycle the bolt, making a better bolt-action infantry riffle, but also an exceptional sniper for the time. But during WW 1, it was the G98, that for it's time, was also a good riffle. Also the MP 18, the first real and successful SMG, was first introduced in 1918, the first Stormtroopers where more using C96's (one of the first successful semi-auto pistols), Madsen machine guns (first successful LMG, still found in conflict zones to this day), shortened G98's and all kind of hand to hand combat weapons with a lot of hand grenade support and a strategic flammenwerfer.
