My sister was killed in 1955 by a drunk driver. He died a few months later from terminal cancer. I have never forgiven him completely, but maybe through Matthew's song, I can learn.

Remember we are ALL held accountable for what we do while we’re here on earth. Which means we all have a judgement day. So you don’t have to worry about judging the person that killed your sister. If he did wrong he would have to suffer at some point. Just like we will if we don’t forgive the ones whom hurt us. I speak from experience as I have an 8 year old son whom is my pride and joy but his mother has kept him from me by all means necessary for no reason at all. I have hated/resented her shortly, then I learned it was killing me inside. I prayed and and prayed and prayed. When I finally decided to truly give God all that negative energy, I was freed. And my health has gotten much better as well. But we get out what we put in so it took major effort on my part but it was well worth it.
(I’m paraphrasing but look up forgiveness in the Bible and you’ll learn a ton and fix your peace as well.)
I forgave my father who left our family, 3 kids and his wife, when I was 6. I didn't see him for 30 years until I found him through the Internet and we met for the first time in 30 years. He had come back to the Lord and was living for Jesus. I found such a release in my soul when I forgave him. Forgiveness is a chain-breaking act. Unforgiveness will keep you and the other(s) in bondage. My dad is with the Lord now but God gave us three years together getting to know one another again.

I totally get this! Forgiving my husband I adored almost as much as my Lord and his young mistress/secretary he later married and finally being able to look at her in the eye and hug her even when she still doesn't totally get it, was the hardest thing ever! The Lord asks us to love the unlovable. Let go of bitterness! even if you have to do it again every day! He Forgives us! Praise God! He Forgives us!

Amen, FORGIVENESS is a very hard thing to do. That is why this song is meaningful to me. I heard this song at a concert that Matthew was not at. I bought a ticket to one of his concert, but it was canceled for some reason. I sure wish I can hear him live one day.
God is just SO amazing that he has forgiven all of us for our sins and for never being perfect enough. He uses Matthew to reach to other people. This song really touches my heart, because as a Christ follower, I will be put to the test of forgiving people and loving them even if they are unloveable because God has done the same for me.

I've watched this video a couple of times now, and the story unleashes a deep down aching inside. It chokes me up and it makes me feel the understanding that God used Mathew, in his fine-tuned way, to reach others. What a blessing this song is. The sweetly spoken eloquence of the lyrical message sent to us because of someone else's endured pain, dancing on the ears and hearts of all. Thank you Mathew, you've been used by God.

That's such an awesome work of God. I'm struggling with forgiving my ex-sister-in-law. Her severe neglect during pregnancy, born at 28 1/2 wks, and during his 1st 6 mos caused such mental challenges that are irreversible even til today at 14. This is so encouraging that God works in mysterious ways. God bless.

After hearing this song at winter jam 2013 I forgave myself for not standing up for something that I belived in when I was younger for not stoping my best friend at the time from having an abortion. I also forgave her for the many things she has done to hurt me, we don't talk anymore but now I am at peace with myself. And I think God everyday for forgiving our sins!! He forgies us no matter what and I love him for that!!
I find forgiving others is much more easier than forgiving myself. There are so many hurting people in the world, and within personal struggles of our/their own, sadly pass on 'pain and hurt' to others, and may not even realize it. I've learned this through some very difficult circumstances, I've received hurt, and recognize as well I've been guilty of causing hurt where I never meant to cause hurt. Forgiveness... we all need it at times so very much, and so important to give it to others.

I saw this story at Winter Jam 2013 in Columbus, OH. It really touched me because I recently wrecked my car while I was drunk. I went head on into a telephone pole. Looking at my car, I am astounded that I am okay & furthermore, I am thankful no one elsewhat hurt. That experience showed me that I was being taken care of. It has renewed my faith. I feel as though God has given me a second chance. I can only pray that my faith will someday be as strong as this woman's.

The acts of forgivness are being felt today. The lyrics of this song touched my life so much so that I forgave my husband and his adultress girlfriend for what they committed. No matter what happens between my husband and I, I am greatful for this lesson, and I have used these words to free not only my soul but also my husband and his girlfriend. Even for a UNBELIEVER, these lyrics free even the most constraint souls..... Show me how.....

Oh my this song and story inspired me to learn more about forgiving when I thought I could never!! After watching and listening to this it was like I could feel Gods hands on my shoulders say "if I can forgive you can also". I had my life robbed when I was a very young teenager. I have lived with so much hatred for this person and wished horrible things on him.. I have forgiven him in my heart, but I still don't have the courage to tell him face to face!!
When you said gods hands on your shoulders my whole body felt like it'd just crumpled up in tears because that's how I felt in a time of forgiveness! It might be hard to face but darling trust me once it's done its like your in paradise because your eyes feel more open and your in a sunnier and happier place following in the sand of gods foot prints.

the song forgiveness have touch me in so many ways and I have realize that I was a prisoner myself holding on to pass hurt and I ask God to help me forgive again and God answer my prayer by sending me the right song to set me free. so anytime I feel that I'm slipping into prison again I listen to the one song that sets me free forgiveness

I cried like a baby when I first heard this song. Now I just share it with everyone I can. When we cant forgive we kill ourselves slowly... ,bitterness, hatred, fear, rage..... becomes acid stomach, heart issues, weight issues,insomnia ,diet related diabetes-you name it! . I forgave my abuser after over 35 years of pain and have never looked back. This is testimony in action ,right?

Wow Matthew. This story is AMAZING. Incredible. I'm in the process of trying to forgive my wife of almost 16 years, who decided to divorce me recently, and split our family apart - among other things I won't mention here. And we're Christians. This story, and the message it speaks, will go a long way toward helping me do that.
I also play drums in the worship band at our church. Trying to get our leader to learn this amazing song asap so we can inspire our congregation to forgive those who have hurt them. After all, isn't this the cornerstone of our faith? Forgiveness?

The song is emotional enough but to know the story behind Matthew's inspiration, wow. Truly Jesus lives and is impacting lives through our actions. Waste not another day if you are holding onto hatred, for it is toxic to your well-being and God wishes you to be set free it. Trust in Him!

I LOVE THIS STORY. We are ALL sinners. There is none good, no not one. And Jesus paid the sin debt we owed God by laying down His life on the cross... paying with His blood, for our forgiveness, for our redemption, for our eternal life. Because He did this, God commands everyone everywhere to confess your sin to Him, repent/forsake your sin and your ways, surrender your life that He has made back to Him and put your full trust and faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness and eternal salvation that God has freely given. When we do this willingly and honestly, He makes us new, He gives us a new spirit, He makes us born again, adopting us as His children, bringing us into His family.... giving us His Holy Spirit as a seal until the day of redemption... the day we go to heaven. Bless the LORD! He has done great things for us!
I love this song called "Forgiveness by Matthew West" one of my favorite singer. This story related to my aunt Lois Klyn,whose daughter , Judy was killed by a man who chose to turn to hit her (one person) rather than If he turned to the other direction He could killed 2 people. This man Confessed and he was ready to be put into the prison for ling long time but My aunt Lois Klyn chose to forgive that man. I am so proud of her. She has showed me the act of forgiveness.) It's hard to forgive at first because people think that "oh she forgave me so quick that means I can do it again" but that's not it! We forgave because it's the power of the Christian way! If your holding back a grudge then let it go and forgive because until you do you can't heal or be happy! Read verse Ephesians 4:31-32 and listen to the prayer behind this song! This song inspired me to do something I never thought I could do.. As a child I was raped and as an adult shortly after my ex husband cheated on me I was raped by his co worker.. I had so much hatred for this guy.. Now I have forgiven him in my heart but still in the process of telling that person face to face.. I have not quiet got that courage to do that still hard to face a person who could do something like that. I keep praying for courage and I am getting there.
