The sad thing is ... Cully has scored some amazing tries or been involved in some great backline movements. A TRUE ALL BLACK LEGEND. And yet, a lot of his performances, etc you won't find on U tube anywhere. Only in the memories of fans who were lucky enough to watch him. STILL one of the greatest Fullbacks in the World .... EVER.
cullens had trumendous upper body strengh and vision, here is a good exemple, he kicked that ball in the opposite side of where italians where heading which got them on their back heel and gave him the time to recover the distance to the ball. Just brilliant vision.
@hemhemimakatekobum OK you were right he did play for Manawatu! That year he did play for the Wellington Hurricanes but I'm not sure if that was before or after the 7's! Maybe after as that was the first time I saw him play I think!
So true... if you compare the first part of his career (1996-2000) and after, he lost a lot of pace and we can easily see that in this try v Italy. It was in 2002 I guess. He won his last cap at only 26, crazy stuff
@@isaak-gabrielpereira6857 Yup, though a lot of great NZ outside backs struggled past 26-27 too, usually the ones that were so brilliant that it was really noticeable when they lost it. Knee injuries are pretty major and I think Cully had a bad one if I recall.
@marshall221000 That's a huge call, when compared to Christian Cullen it was said that Dagg's more like a Glen Osbourne sort of player as said by Ma'a Nonu lol
@hemhemimakatekobum yes he passed to another player but I can't spell that players name but what he done inside his own try line was crazy and brilliant! Are you sure he payed for Manawatu? I only know Carlos Spencer did before he played for Auckland. I thought he only played for Wellington but I'm not sure! I'll need to check that one out!
90 to 91m ... in yards the field was 100 yards ... ergo; around 88m ...post something get it right ... the 25's were yards and the 22's are metres ... 4 x 25 yards or 4 x 22m... but yes, another Cullen masterpiece
@marshall221000 Massive call Christian Cullen is an absoloute legend and scored some of the greatest tries of all time before he was rudeley ousted by then coach john mitchell, Daggs biggest claim to fame was setting up a trie for Ma Nonu in the RWC semi sure he has the potential, but cullen is the greatest
@DadaMungo The defending player is allowed to stand his ground, he doesn't have to change the line that he is running either. The Italian player ran straight into him, that is his own fault. Correct decision by the ref
@hemhemimakatekobum I only remember because I watched him play for Horowhenua before Manawatu snapped him up. Lucky they did or he might have not gone as far as he did.
Cullen the best full back the world has ever seen, Until Robbie Deans and his love kids from the Crusaders came along in Leon MacDonald and Ben Blair. Phew !!!!!!!
@andrewglover6 I remember that one I couldn't believe he had the balls to do that but didn't he pass it off to a team mate? I know he ran it most of the way thou from out of his own ingoal ballsy as, I think he was playing for Manawatu back than and got the call up to the Sevens and him and Jonah just annihilated all comers
I know I'm a touch late to this but if you're still wanting to know, my recollection is Cullen wasn't selected and they then proceeded to select the next 2 or 3 guys down the line. The idea that he was suddenly the 4th best fullback in NZ is and was ridiculous.
Cullen is better than dagg. Not by much. Cullen had the full arsenal. Only thing i can think that dagg was better at. Is his punts from hamilton to auckland. Apart from that, cullen wins every other department. Dagg will be exciting to watch the next few years
@marshall221000 Sorry mate but no. Dagg is absolute class and will rock the world, but Cullen was ahead of his time, could make the best look very ordinary. Let me guess, Cullen retired before you hit puberty.

Check now, there is a highlights reel up now
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
He's the best fullback I've ever watched play the game
Theeee greatest.
Wasnt even touched. Best fullback ever
Yeah it's sort of like comparing Muhammed Ali to Mike Tyson. I like Dagg but Cullen was on another level
Dagg is good but Cullen shouldn't even be compared with him ... Cullen is in another world when it comes to fullbacks. One of the best.
How fast was the touch judge? Give that man a jumper!
absolute legend
Damn you John Mitchell! Bad enough that you left Mehrtens out bud Cullen as well? Sacrilege!
cullens had trumendous upper body strengh and vision, here is a good exemple, he kicked that ball in the opposite side of where italians where heading which got them on their back heel and gave him the time to recover the distance to the ball. Just brilliant vision.
The worlds one and only top greatest voice and commentary...Grant Nisbett
one of my idols at his best
@berke he started behind the goal post. The field is 100m from goal post to goal post.
@hemhemimakatekobum OK you were right he did play for Manawatu! That year he did play for the Wellington Hurricanes but I'm not sure if that was before or after the 7's! Maybe after as that was the first time I saw him play I think!
best fullback in the entire world
He could bench press the most on that team believe it or not.
Seeing Cullen got me in to lifting weights, knowing that the smaller man could be one of the strongest.
Most outside of tight 5.
It's sad how slow he got so early, even here he had almost lost all his spark!
So true... if you compare the first part of his career (1996-2000) and after, he lost a lot of pace and we can easily see that in this try v Italy. It was in 2002 I guess. He won his last cap at only 26, crazy stuff

@Lostkiwi123 He doesn't change direction, and you are allowed to maintain the line that you are running on
@hemhemimakatekobum yes he passed to another player but I can't spell that players name but what he done inside his own try line was crazy and brilliant! Are you sure he payed for Manawatu? I only know Carlos Spencer did before he played for Auckland. I thought he only played for Wellington but I'm not sure! I'll need to check that one out!
are you serious?! haha cullen is one of the best of all time.
Mexted always putting your foot in it
@notmemate Yep Caleb fuckin Ralph he was an just above average player but John Mitchell just had it in for Cullen but who the hell knows why
What about the pace of the touch judge?
90 to 91m ... in yards the field was 100 yards ... ergo; around 88m ...post something get it right ... the 25's were yards and the 22's are metres ... 4 x 25 yards or 4 x 22m... but yes, another Cullen masterpiece

@hame0188 Yep it's all about that bounce of the ball but he still had alot of work to do once he gathered it
@DadaMungo The defending player is allowed to stand his ground, he doesn't have to change the line that he is running either. The Italian player ran straight into him, that is his own fault. Correct decision by the ref
@Lostkiwi123 he doesn't stand his ground though. he runs sideways to block him
touch judge has got some wheels
@hemhemimakatekobum I only remember because I watched him play for Horowhenua before Manawatu snapped him up. Lucky they did or he might have not gone as far as he did.
Cullen the best full back the world has ever seen, Until Robbie Deans and his love kids from the Crusaders came along in Leon MacDonald and Ben Blair. Phew !!!!!!!
serge blanco?
to be fair he wrecked his knee and with the slight drop in pace became a mere mortal.
@@janbasford3651 who? Lol
This was in Hamilton
@andrewglover6 I remember that one I couldn't believe he had the balls to do that but didn't he pass it off to a team mate? @hemhemimakatekobum dont forget Ben Atinga or whatever his name was.
Not bad? this is against an internationally ranked Rugby team, who's was yours against?
yup defnitly waikaikato stadium
100m inbetween the two posts, theres space in the ingoals ;)
Why's the ball fluorescent green?
greatest of all time hands down
Can someone tellme- a kiwi mate of mine says Cullen was dropped for some player I never heard of called Ralph- is this true?
I know I'm a touch late to this but if you're still wanting to know, my recollection is Cullen wasn't selected and they then proceeded to select the next 2 or 3 guys down the line. The idea that he was suddenly the 4th best fullback in NZ is and was ridiculous.
Cullen is the best but did you 103m try, A rugby field is only 100 metres
Because they received it from the kick bout 2-3 metres behind their try line and took it all the way to the opposing try line
Cullen is better than dagg. Not by much. Cullen had the full arsenal. Only thing i can think that dagg was better at. Is his punts from hamilton to auckland. Apart from that, cullen wins every other department. Dagg will be exciting to watch the next few years
That's his third 100 meatre try
@marshall221000 Cullen is on another level, Dagg can't even compare sorry.
Cullen vs Dagg
Ben Smith
Wtf the field is 100 m
The field is technically 140 m with the in goal area. He started behind his own posts
@CreativeAdviceForYou i dont
Cullen and Wilson>Ben Smith>Dagg
Nothing on Dagg....
@Stagtatstic Hahaha yep I noticed that too :)
not bad, but Ive done one from 105 metres , honest lol
@marshall221000 Sorry mate but no. Dagg is absolute class and will rock the world, but Cullen was ahead of his time, could make the best look very ordinary. Let me guess, Cullen retired before you hit puberty.
@hemhemimakatekobum Cheers mate- seems like a travesty- and I thought Ralph was the blokes first name as well- proves I never heard of him!
