Documenting Hip-Hop culture matters. In a world where print media has seemed to have taken a hit, it is still imperative that we document our culture in physical form for historical purposes. The digital world moves so quickly that many pieces of history can be lost in the social media’s news cycle or just simply edited over time. According 2 Hip-Hop has worked diligently to resolve this issue and the answer comes in the form of our Hip-Hop Yearbook. Hip-Hop history needs to be documented in real-time to highlight the entirety of Hip-Hop for the whole calendar year. Year by year we will document our history as we develop a library of Hip-Hop History that can always go back to our book collection and check out. With a start of a new decade, 2021 became perfect to start this tremendous journey. The yearbook includes Top 20 Hip-Hop Songs Of The Year, Top 20 Rap Verses Of The Year, Top 20 Hip-Hop Albums Of The Year, and more.

I was a part of the Mississippi Dough Boy Project. at that time Big Poppa or Notorious BIG was calling himself Biggie Smalls. Check his first records. I knew when juicy came out. I told Tiger/Notorious B1 that dude stole your name track idea and flow bro. He was like man I'm flattered ....its all good. I'm like no man you need to address this because he is blowing up and getting paid. Ive been screaming this for years. at the time no one wanted to believe or even hear it. If Tiger gets paid for his album I need to get paid too. I got a track that appears 3 times on the Mississippi Dough Boyz record and never got recognition on the album. FACTS🤔✌

I know I'm late to this topic, but since this is coming to light, have you guys ever addressed rap music originating in the South.
*Just look up the Jubalaires' song "Noah".*
They're literally flowing like the Sugar Hill Gang. Blew my mind being that they were doing this in the 1940's and 50's, and it's coming out of the South, and the Church.
I imagine that the music followed us after migrating from the South to the Midwest/North East after the depression.
I believe some of their songs even charted on Billboard. Either way, this would be an interesting topic to discuss.

Love the video bro.. I don't know for sure if Puff stole this song's beat and concept and gave it to Big or they never heard this song and it's just a coincidence. The issue I have is that Big had to go by Notorious B.I.G. starting in 1992. It was featured on Mary J Blige album as Notorious B.I.G a year before this song came out.

You see how they killed Tim Bigelow the white rapper who called himself Biggie Smallz back then. Because Biggie from New York, could not use the name. Copyright... So Biggie had to use his name. It's sad that we kill each other over a piece of paper. So now it's time to rise. Hip-hop is being destroyed from within by the same people who are puppets to the puppeteer. We have a chance to save Hip-hop out of the ashes of rock and roll. We are our own enemy divided. But together as one, we are strong... Blood money will never win. Contact law is the key here. They will sit back and watch us kill each other over the spelling words cast on paper. Money is not power it's a tool or spell used to make the people move. You are the "power" supply. Now Rise !

Biggie was watching him and wanted to be like him, he saw a big homie from the streets doing it, he emulated his whole style. No doubt big was bumping his album daily. great discussion y'all. Crazy how people have been dying around Puff even before Biggie. I think what you theorised happened though as P Diddy and Bad Boy admit to Biggie not feeling the Juicy beat and doing it reluctantly, this is also shown in the Notorious movie they made.
It is likely that P Diddy got Notorious B1's Big Daddy tape and had the idea for doing a single like it, as far as Pete Rock goes maybe it went like you theorised and P Diddy and Biggie went to see Pete Rock to do the mix and he was playing his own mix of it at the time and they took it as a sign to do Juicy or what may have happened was that they heard it after they did the Juicy track. Or perhaps Puff had the tape of B1's then went to see Pete Rock and then that gave him reaffirmation to do it. I think its difficult to pin point where exactly Pete Rock's claim fits into the proposed timeline but I do believe that as one of the most influential DJs of New York he definitely made his own mix of Mtume's Juicy Fruit.

i think it's a reach. biggie already had the "notorious b.i.g." name in 92 when he was in the source' unsigned hype column. they did not need to dig deep in the crates to find the sample, and the flip was very straight forward. and the concept of the song wasnt really original when biggie or B1 did it. it's just a rags to riches story. i think it's a coincidence

This is old news and been on TH-cam for years. Here is Pete Rock telling the story and playing the original track he produced with Biggie on it.
