  • Made some good progress on the dump trailer. A few more things to add support wise and then we will be on to laying the floor and putting up the walls. Thanks for watching everyone!!

    Really nice dump. Especially building it on the fly. I build trailers for a living. Dumps and equipment trailers are my norm. Customs here and there. But you definitely know what you’re doing. Keep the footage coming! Also nice torch skills notching that channel.

    wow! that thing is going to be HEAVY! its a good thing you put those axles so far back. if they were in the normal location , the load capacity would have suffered. good planning jesse! he shouldnt have any troubles for sure! i am always happy to see you weld.

      I just was just considering - triple axle? I like it but honestly it might be able to take a third in front of the currently placed tandems. He definitely built a stout trailer.

    The cross members that go right to left should have been 1” lower so that as the floor ages the dents will be in line with the front to rear stringers.
    As you have it now the dents will form potholes that will hold dirt and water.

    you should make an A-frame brace from the front of the hydro mount to the corners of the frame, and one brace straight down the middle. That looks great though I think I may have to build one soon.

    Thought about just leaving it a flatbed? I have a flat bed dump trailer and love it. Not many manufactures make them. I Have a traditional rub rail with stake pockets. The front has a 2' tall bulkhead. I have a set of 4' tall sides and a set of 1' tall sides. It makes the trailer very modular and easy to load pallets/machinery onto. And with such a stout frame you could gain some payload without permanent sideboards.

      That was my thought originally but the the gentleman who I’m building it for said na, just keep it a dump trailer

    I would suggest that you add another axle, inasmuch as the beefy design of the trailer has gotten to what looks like that point. As to the hydraulic lines, maybe you could run them through a 2x2 tube attached/welded to the trailer frame's runners/cross members. That is one helluva trailer you have designed and fabricated.

    • @j_moffitt
      @j_moffitt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      3rd axle would be good but not necessarily beneficial, would put a lot of extra force on turning with such a short trailer 2x2 tube is a good idea, but all in all the dump frame is strong but relatively light considering being that’s it’s made out of 1/8” tube

  • @kevinhornbuckle
    @kevinhornbuckle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very strong. Get some weld through primer before you put the deck on. You don't want rust starting in the joint mating surfaces.

    It will be loaded before you put anything on it. Not really but it is overkill for such a light cylinder to pick up. Was I to build something that heavy, I would go with a three stage cylinder up front and build it to be part of the headache rack... like a small square tube to ride in and it wouldn't take no more than four inches and with the rack being two of them it would only take inch an a half to two at most. makes the head board stronger and no binding and narrows it down to four grease points... to each his own but how I did it on my dump trucks and some have been on the road forty years. Twenty as a truck and another who know how long as a working trailer when cut down

  • @jamiecolton2511
    @jamiecolton2511 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Looks pretty overbuilt. A lot of your capacity will be eaten up from the frame weight. One needs to play a balance between making it strong, and keeping it reasonably light. be interested in knowing it's dry finished weight .
